Chapter 335: The Couple's Rings
Chapter 335: The Couple's Rings
The next morning, after an early breakfast, the couple headed to Central. As they reached the entrance of the mall, Lu Jiaxin spotted a familiar figure.
"Sister Dan, are you here to shop as well?" Lu Jiaxin asked.
Wang Yadan smiled and replied, "The boss mentioned that he wanted to buy you some jewelry but wasn't sure how to choose, so he asked me to come and help out."
The boss had promised her overtime pay for today, and if Miss Lu was pleased, her month-end bonus would double. To ensure Miss Lu's happiness, Wang Yadan had done her homework the afternoon before, scouting several brand specialty stores.
Understanding that Nie Zhan disliked shopping, Lu Jiaxin kindly suggested, "You can go rest at the hotel. I'll go shopping with Sister Dan."
Seeing his tired expression, she knew he hadn't gotten much rest the night before, and she wondered how late he had worked. Although she didn't approve of burning the midnight oil, Lu Jiaxin refrained from interfering in his affairs.
Wang Yadan could tell that Lu Jiaxin's suggestion came from a sincere place, and she chimed in to reassure Nie Zhan, "Boss, don't worry. I'll help Miss Lu select jewelry that she'll love."
If Nie Zhan accompanied them on the shopping trip, Wang Yadan would feel pressured. She could perform better without him tagging along.
Not wanting to disturb their shopping fun, Nie Zhan nodded in agreement.
The first stop Wang Yadan took Lu Jiaxin to was Cartier, one of the world's top jewelry brands. As soon as they entered the store, Wang Yadan recommended several pieces of jewelry that had caught her eye.
Undeniably, the jewelry Wang Yadan selected was gorgeous, but Lu Jiaxin felt that they would be more suitable for a mature and elegant woman. Some girls might want to appear more mature and thus put effort into their makeup, but that was not the case for Lu Jiaxin. Savoring the rare opportunity granted by the heavens to relive her youth, she intended to cherish these vibrant, youthful years.
Lu Jiaxin surveyed the store and ultimately only purchased a diamond bracelet.
After leaving the specialty store, Wang Yadan asked, "Miss Lu, do you have any favorite jewelry brands?"
Lu Jiaxin did have a preferred brand—Bulgari.
Upon hearing this, Wang Yadan promptly led the way to the Bulgari specialty store. Having learned from her previous experience, she let Lu Jiaxin browse freely and only offered explanations when Lu Jiaxin showed interest in a particular piece.
Lu Jiaxin's attention was soon captured by a sapphire necklace. The deep blue sapphire sparkled with a dreamlike, profound radiance.
With eager eyes, Lu Jiaxin inquired, "This gemstone should be around a hundred carats, right?"
The store manager praised Lu Jiaxin's discerning eye, "It's 108.39 carats, Miss Lu. This necklace was ordered by a customer as a gift for his wife on their tenth wedding anniversary."
Wang Yadan thought that the wife was incredibly fortunate to receive such a valuable gift after ten years of marriage. A necklace like this would start at a million yuan.
Lu Jiaxin adored the sapphire necklace, but since it already had an owner, she couldn't purchase it. Nevertheless, she indulged in a shopping spree, buying earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and a watch, totaling 390,000 yuan.
After swiping Nie Zhan's card, she took out a receipt from her bag and handed it to the store manager, "A few days ago, one of your staff called to inform me that the rings I ordered had arrived."
She had custom-designed a pair of couple's rings and sent the design to this specialty store upon her return from Europe.
The store manager took the receipt, quickly located the rings, and presented them to Lu Jiaxin with both hands, offering their delivery service. The change in attitude was evident as they recognized Lu Jiaxin as a potential big-spender.
As they exited the specialty store, Wang Yadan curiously asked, "Miss Lu, are these couple's rings for someone else?"
"No, I had them custom-made here."
Wang Yadan exclaimed in surprise, "Miss Lu, it's not appropriate for a woman to buy her own wedding ring. If you do, people will think you're desperate to get married, and you'll be mocked for it."
Lu Jiaxin laughed, "These are couple's rings, meant to be worn by both partners. In the past month since school started, several boys have confessed their feelings for me, and whenever we go out, beautiful women hit on you. With these rings, people will know that we're taken. Hopefully, that will reduce the number of confessions and flirtatious advances we receive."
In just over a month since the start of the school year, she had already received confessions from three male classmates. Fortunately, all of them had respectable worldviews, and when they found out she had a boyfriend, they respectfully backed off.
Wang Yadan agreed that the couple's rings should be purchased by the man.
"Unless someone told him, how would a clueless guy like Nie Zhan even know about couple's rings?" Lu Jiaxin smiled. "There's no rule that says a man has to buy the rings. Besides, I designed these rings myself, and they're engraved with our names. They hold a lot of meaning for me."
Wang Yadan found her perspective unique. In her experience and that of those around her, it was instinctual to expect the man to be the one spending money on his partner. But Lu Jiaxin was different. She had to go to great lengths to get her boss to spend money on her.
"Also, Sister Dan, please don't tell Nie Zhan about this. I want to surprise him," Lu Jiaxin said.
Indeed, it would be a huge surprise, and Wang Yadan smiled as she agreed to keep the secret.
When Nie Zhan saw her take out the rings, he was so shocked that he froze for a moment before laughing in disbelief. "Jiaxin, you're still so young. You have to be at least twenty to get married. And it's the man who should be proposing, not the other way around."
Lu Jiaxin giggled. "I told Sister Dan that you wouldn't understand, and indeed you don't. These are couple's rings, meant for both of us."
She took out the male version of the ring and slipped it onto his left ring finger. "With this ring on, people will know that you're taken, and those with manners won't bother hitting on you."
Nie Zhan's lips curved upward as he recalled the vacation when Lu Jiaxin had gotten upset about beautiful women flirting with him. "Here, let me put it on for you, too. This way, the boys at school won't confess their feelings to you anymore."
Lu Jiaxin let out a sound of surprise. "How did you know?"
"If I want to know something, I'll find out," he replied.
Nie Zhan slid the ring onto Lu Jiaxin's right ring finger, and surprisingly, the fit was perfect—not too tight, not too loose. The designer had done an impeccable job with the sizing.
Lu Jiaxin held out her hand in front of him and asked with a mischievous smile, "Do they look good?"
Nie Zhan thought they were the most beautiful rings in the world. "When we get married, we'll design our own wedding rings."
Lu Jiaxin huffed, "If you mistreat me, I won't marry you..."
Before she could finish her sentence, he silenced her with a kiss.
After pushing him away, Lu Jiaxin playfully punched him a couple of times, her punches as gentle as tickles. "No more surprise attacks, or I won't talk to you anymore."
Her voice carried a hint of playful annoyance, devoid of any real threat.
"Then you can't say what you said earlier anymore, either," Nie Zhan countered.
Lu Jiaxin refused to give in, letting out an arrogant humph.
Nie Zhan pulled her into his embrace, whispering into her ear, "Don't say those words again. You're the one I've chosen to spend the rest of my life with."
Lu Jiaxin's face reddened at his words.
