Chapter 335: Exhaustion
Chapter 335: Exhaustion
"Ember Crown, Insight Crown!"
Although the Guild Master's situation was unclear, it was best to equip the halo first.
The three remaining Ember Crowns were given to the severely injured members, at least providing them with some relief.
"Lucy, are you alright?"
"Yes, Mr. Rod and Miss Mira saved me. I'm sorry..."
Although they weren't on the same communication channel, their questions and answers unexpectedly aligned.
Mira anxiously asked, "What happened to the Guild Master?"
Elusa couldn't bring herself to answer.
"Let's talk about it later," Rod said, "Elfman, take the Guild Master to Gran Poluxika immediately."
Rod summoned Crab Ship and instructed Elfman to board.
"You're a real man!" Elfman didn't waste words, urging Crab Ship to hurry.
Despite his rough appearance, he was skilled at caring for others, and the Guild Master's choice to have him lead the way was reassuring.
"The two most severely injured, come up here," Rod pushed Sol and Juvia down, "Carla, go with them and take care of them."
"Okay."
The two Crab Ships carried the critically injured away, while the others only needed to retreat in an orderly manner.
The lightly injured led the way, followed closely by those with more severe injuries. A few reliable members, like Marco and Wakaba, Alzack, and Bisca, flanked them.
Natsu, Gray, Loki, and the other strongest fighters brought up the rear.
At this moment, Loki couldn't even think about his 'Rod Phobia' or 'Lucy Phobia'.
Sol and Juvia, still unconscious, were carried by the others. If anything happened, they could serve as hostages or shields, as long as they could protect their companions.
As for the pursuers behind them, the twelve Beaked Birds were the first to reach the sky above them. Feather blades were thrown down, causing many to be hit and fall.
The Magic Swamp Frogs jumped and hopped, spitting poison from a suitable distance. Those who were quick enough could dodge, or if their clothes were splashed with poison, they could quickly remove them. Those who were slower could only scream in agony.
The Shadow Wolves pounced into the crowd, and with their size, even a mere collision was painful.
Armored Beetles emerged from underground, tripping people or dragging them into the ground.
Not all of the Phantom members were pushovers. After the initial surprise attack, they quickly organized a counterattack, and the wild monsters started to take casualties.
But...
A gigantic purple monster charged into the crowd at lightning speed, sending over twenty people flying. The counterattack they had just organized was immediately disrupted.
More importantly, the appearance of such a massive monster in their midst greatly demoralized the Phantom members. Those closest to it could feel the terrifying force of the recent collision, and even those who weren't hit were almost blown over by the wind.
Magic bullets, swords, and fists rained down on the Canyon Vanguard, producing dull thuds. Perhaps they were effective, but it was impossible to tell with the naked eye.
The Vanguard merely swished its tail in annoyance, and several people were immediately swept away.
Adding to their troubles, there were also two Golems and two Treants behind them.
Although smaller than the Vanguard, in this situation, the four monsters marching side by side created an overwhelming sense of oppression.
Moreover, countless Void Worms were jumping and leaping towards them...
Who just called for the Beastmaster? Who just mocked the Fairy Strategist? They're here, so why aren't you attacking?
Does the term 'Strategist' emphasize 'military' rather than 'master'? Elusa changed into the Celestial Wheel Armor and fired hundreds of swords at the Phantom members.
Mira received the Soul of Satan and launched black magic balls at the enemies.
The Phantom members' last shred of courage vanished.
"Monsters... monsters!"
"Why are there more and more bugs the more we fight?"
"Our attacks are useless!"
The pursuit quickly turned into a rout.
The executives, having other plans, didn't join the fight, as they were no match for these monsters.
They had arrived with nearly two hundred people, but only a few dozen managed to escape, leaving the rest scattered and lying in the wilderness by the roadside.
Most of the wild monsters had disappeared, and Red and Blue had given the three of them a double buff before disappearing.
Two Stone Beetles remained, carrying the trio towards the others.
...
Elusa and Mira returned directly to the guild, where their presence was needed to calm everyone's nerves.
Rod went to the Eastern Forest Treehouse, as the Guild Master might need his help with healing.
As soon as he arrived at the door, Rod saw Elfman being pushed out.
Just before the door closed, Rod rushed in, "Granny, how is the Guild Master?"
Poluxika threw the broom in her hand into the corner and turned to go inside.
This was an invitation for Rod to enter, and he quickly followed.
Elfman scratched the back of his head and stood waiting at the door, feeling that he was being treated differently.
The usually kind and amiable Guild Master lay on the sickbed with his eyes tightly closed.
This was the first time Rod had seen the old man in such a weak state. Despite being able to effortlessly cast powerful defense magic and transform into a giant to carry them around...
"It's a Wind-type magic with the effect of 'Exhaustion', a terrifying spell that causes a rapid loss of magic power within a short period."
Poluxika immediately began explaining the illness and its cause, "For a Mage, magic power is like the source of life. The more powerful they are, the more they suffer from 'Exhaustion'."
She was so angry that she wanted to slap Makalov again, "This old fool, acting recklessly like he's still young, only causing trouble for others!"
Rod mentally filtered out Poluxika's complaints about the Guild Master, as the symptoms sounded familiar to him:
"Is it magic deficiency? Does that mean the Guild Master will be fine as long as his magic power is restored?"
"It's not that simple, but it does help with his recovery and at least alleviates the pain..."
Poluxika glanced at Rod, having some understanding of his abilities, "I see his magic power has recovered significantly. Was that your doing?"
"Yes!" Rod was delighted. So, restoring magic power was effective, and the Insight Crown had already eased the Guild Master's pain to a great extent? This was the best news so far!
"Receive: Azure Engraved Golem, Insight Crown!"
The treehouse had limited space, so receiving was more suitable than summoning, but even so, Rod's head bumped against the ceiling lamp.
Poluxika picked up the broom and smacked him twice, causing Rod to laugh and apologize as he dispelled his transformation.
Without the hard stone 'armor', Poluxika stopped hitting him and complained,
"Really, you're so reckless too. He wants you to succeed him, but you panic over small matters. Can you really take care of that troublesome guild in the future?"
Rod was taken aback, "Is that what the Guild Master thinks?"
Poluxika didn't want to pay him any mind, but seeing Makalov's feeble state, her heart softened:
"He's been considering the next Guild Master, but you're far from ready."
I've only been here for a year, and my strength isn't sufficient. Becoming a successor all of a sudden is too...
This messed-up guild really does everything haphazardly, even something as important as choosing the next Guild Master.
Rod took a deep breath, "I understand."
If the old man wanted a calm and steady successor, he would strive in that direction.
"The Guild Master's judgment is never wrong, both in ability and character. I won't let him down. However..."
Rod smiled, "As for the position of Guild Master, let the old man hold onto it for another hundred years. He's more experienced in writing self-critique letters."
"I don't want to be the Guild Master."
