Chapter 334: Vold: Let's Talk
Chapter 334: Vold: Let's Talk
The sudden cancellation of their scheduled class provided an unexpected break for most students, who seized the opportunity to rest or venture into the Labyrinth Challenge. Vold and his group, however, made their way to the Hospital Wing.
From a distance, they heard someone shouting loudly:
"I almost got killed! I'm telling my father! Just you wait, you stupid oaf! My father will not let you get away with this!"
Michael's steps came to an abrupt halt.
"Malfoy? Is Malfoy the one who's injured?" He turned to Vold, "In that case, I guess we don't need to go see him."
"This is not good, Michael." Theo frowned, "Professor Hagrid might get fired because of this."
Michael waved his hand dismissively, "It's not unusual for accidents to happen during classes. Who hasn't been injured in Potions class? Oh... except for Vold, I suppose."
As he spoke, he was already turning to leave.
Then, they heard Malfoy's voice from inside the ward, still yelling, "And that damn beast! I'll chop it up! It's dead meat!"
Michael's expression changed, and he looked somewhat troubled.
"Let's go see." Vold said.
They continued forward, and as they reached the door, they heard Harry's weak voice saying, "Shut up, Malfoy."
His voice was not loud, but Malfoy actually quieted down for a moment. At that instant, Vold pushed open the slightly ajar door.
There were two occupied beds in the ward.
Harry's clothes had several bloody tears at the back of his shoulders, and his entire body was covered in blood, his face unusually pale.
Madam Pomfrey was applying a thick layer of green ointment on his body, then she handed him a cup of bubbling, foul-smelling liquid, which Harry drank.
As for Draco Malfoy, there was blood on his arm, but not much, and it had already healed under the effect of a spell. However, he was still holding his arm and groaning on the bed, complaining about the pain.
Hagrid was sitting in the corner, and the stool beneath him was far too small for his size. He sat there cautiously, his hands on his knees, looking as if he had curled up.
He stared at the ground dejectedly, showing no reaction to Malfoy's insults, as if he had been beaten down into a state of self-imposed isolation.
Vold and his group's arrival interrupted the slightly eerie atmosphere in the ward.
"Harry?" Theo asked in surprise, "How did you get injured?"
"Bad luck." Harry muttered, then asked, "Why are you here? Isn't it time for your class?"
"Yes, Care of Magical Creatures." Michael glanced at Hagrid in the corner and said, "But the professor isn't there, and our class was canceled too."
"I'm sorry." Hagrid said listlessly, "I apologize. I might not be able to teach you anymore... Hogwarts has never had a professor who only lasted for one day."
"It's not your fault, Hagrid."
Harry quickly reassured him, "You said the Griffin is a proud creature that deserves respect. It was Malfoy who deliberately insulted them, provoking them. It's Malfoy's fault."
"It's his fault!" Malfoy shouted angrily, "He shouldn't have brought such a dangerous creature to class!"
"The Basilisk was more dangerous, but we faced it too!" Harry yelled back, "No wonder you didn't participate last time. You're just a coward!"
Malfoy was breathing heavily, both angry and a little nervous. He quickly glanced at Vold and Madam Pomfrey.
The reason he hadn't participated in the Basilisk challenge last semester was because, before that, he had a "heart-to-heart" conflict with Crabbe.
That incident was sealed under the strong request of Harry's father, and Harry and the others were unaware of it. However, Madam Pomfrey, who participated in the rescue of Crabbe, and Vold, who provided video evidence, were well aware of what had happened.
Madam Pomfrey acted as if she hadn't heard a word, simply handing the cup in her hand forward:
"Drink it, child. The claws of the Griffin may carry toxins, and the wound on your back is too deep. It won't heal so easily."
Harry, who was originally filled with righteous indignation, grimaced at the sight of the terrible dark green potion. He shrank back, preferring to face the Griffin directly.
But under Madam Pomfrey's stern gaze, Harry still took the cup, closed his eyes, and drank it all in one go.
The suffocating smell of the potion spread, overpowering the stench of a hundred smelly socks. Upon seeing this, even Malfoy showed a sympathetic expression.
Madam Pomfrey was somewhat satisfied, then she gave Vold and the others a warning glare, saying:
"No conflicts in the ward. If you disturb my patients, I'll kick you all out!"
"Yes, ma'am," they agreed one after another.
Madam Pomfrey left, and Harry immediately covered his mouth, afraid that the potion he had just drunk would come back up.
Vold ignored Malfoy in the neighboring bed and asked Harry, "Malfoy provoked the Griffin, and then he was attacked. What about you? How did you get injured?"
Upon hearing this, Harry, who was in pain, stiffened for a moment, then began coughing loudly.
Malfoy also averted his gaze, as if avoiding something.
Hagrid, on the other hand, spoke up: "Harry was injured while saving Malfoy... It's all my fault. If I had caught Buckbeak at the time, this wouldn't have happened..."
"I shouldn't have released them all. If I had just loosened the collar of one Griffin, I could have controlled the situation in time..."
"Or maybe if I had realized there would be a problem when Malfoy was talking nonsense, and rushed to their side at the first moment, this incident wouldn't have happened..."
"Maybe I should have taught something safer in the first class, like Flobberworms or something... Why did I think preparing a surprise would make the students like me more? I've messed everything up..."
"I really am an idiot... I'm not fit to be a professor..."
As Hagrid sat there, it was clear that he had repeatedly reviewed the classroom accident, listing his mistakes one by one, full of regret, and tears were about to fall.
Malfoy scoffed and said softly, "At least you have some self-awareness! Your preparation for this class was simply terrible!"
"Don't!" Michael was startled and quickly said, "The Griffin was indeed a surprise, and I loved it! And I really don't want to see Flobberworms in class!"
"Really?" Hagrid looked at him with teary eyes.
"Of course," Ryan agreed. "I'm looking forward to our next Care of Magical Creatures class, and I hope Professor, you won't be absent again."
"And the Griffin!" Michael added.
"But this creature is indeed dangerous," Padma coughed lightly and said tactfully, "For everyone's safety, can we take some measures? Regarding this, I have a little suggestion..."
The group surrounded Hagrid, helping the professor, who had lost confidence, redesign a safer and more interesting lesson.
Vold approached Malfoy's bed, revealing a kind smile.
"What do you want?"
Malfoy immediately became alert and even instinctively reached for his wand.
Vold grabbed the tip of his wand and pushed it down, leaning slightly forward and smiling, "Malfoy, let's talk?"
