Chapter 333: The Monk's Dishonesty
Chapter 333: The Monk's Dishonesty
By the time they left Jia Leshan's residence, the sky had already darkened.
Lu Xiaofeng, accompanied by Xue Bing, headed west of the city, while Su Shaoying, Ouyang Qing, and Ma Xiuzhen went east.
Standing in the middle, Qiu Xiaoxiao looked left and right, her face confused. "Which way should I go?"
Everyone else was paired up, and as a single lady, she couldn't just tag along. Wait, no! Su Shaoying, that jerk, had Ma Xiuzhen with him!
Qiu Xiaoxiao gritted her teeth and decided to join Ouyang Qing.
Ouyang Qing glared at her.
Qiu Xiaoxiao smiled cheekily. "I haven't seen my old flame in a while. Keep me company tonight."
"I think you're doing this on purpose," Ouyang Qing said coldly.
Qiu Xiaoxiao laughed. "Who's to blame for mocking me and Lu Xiaofeng the other day?"
During the gathering at Red Shoes, Ouyang Qing had teased Qiu Xiaoxiao and Lu Xiaofeng, comparing them to a little hen and a big rooster. So now, Qiu Xiaoxiao was here to stir up trouble for Ouyang Qing.
But surprisingly, Su Shaoying didn't need Qiu Xiaoxiao's help. As soon as he boarded Ouyang Qing's boat, he pulled Ma Xiuzhen and Ouyang Qing into the master bedroom, leaving the former two ladies—Yao Yue and Lian Xing—behind. Su Shaoying's composure was unwavering.
Qiu Xiaoxiao was stunned. She never expected this turn of events; it was so different from what she had imagined!
Where was the expected catfight and bickering?
Where was Su Shaoying's expected struggle to juggle the two, ending up in a frazzled and chaotic state?
Was he simply relying on his superior martial arts skills to force the issue?
Wasn't he afraid that the two women would join forces against him?
Moreover, women were naturally stronger than men in that regard. Wasn't he worried about losing control and failing miserably?
Su Shaoying, however, seemed to suggest that Qiu Xiaoxiao was too naive. He knew that playing and then discarding them would only breed hatred. Instead, he aimed to satisfy them to the point where they couldn't lift a finger, making them realize that they were powerless on their own.
Having cultivated the Mingyu Gong and Fangzhong Techniques, Su Shaoying was confident in his abilities, especially since he had also set up a common external enemy for the two women—Gongsun Danyang.
Thus, knowing Su Shaoying's prowess, Ma Xiuzhen and Ouyang Qing reluctantly gave in.
Qiu Xiaoxiao, hearing sounds from the neighboring room that made her face turn red, couldn't help but rub her legs. She called out loudly, "I thought you said Jia Leshan would be coming later? Save some energy for that!"
The response that came was even more high-pitched.
"You jerk! A womanizer who forgets his friends at the sight of beauty!"
...
Deep into the night, the boat drifted on the Qin Huai River. The lights on the boat had long been extinguished, and everyone was asleep.
The window of the room was gently pushed open, and two figures climbed inside without making a sound.
But just as they landed, the oil lamp in the room was suddenly lit.
"Let's see who has come to visit."
Su Shaoying retracted his hand, which had been holding the fire folder, and saw a middle-aged man with a delicate appearance. Accompanying him was the Lady Chu Chu he had met earlier in the day.
"Unexpected," Su Shaoying said, a little surprised. "I thought Master Jia would be visiting Lu Xiaofeng. I didn't expect him to come here instead." Then, his ears twitched, and he smiled. "Since you're already here, wouldn't it be impolite to keep you standing outside in the wind?"
The middle-aged man's eyes flickered, and he said indifferently, "It seems the reputation of Su Erxia of the Emei Sect, surpassing his master, is well-deserved."
The next moment, the door to the master bedroom was pushed open, and an elderly man with long fingernails entered alongside a black-clad man carrying a black sheath longsword, blocking the exit.
Ma Xiuzhen and Ouyang Qing, sitting next to Su Shaoying, straightened their expressions as they recognized the danger these two newcomers posed.
Their steps were steady, and their auras were long and lingering, indicating they were top-notch internal martial arts experts. One had cultivated finger techniques, while the other was clearly a top-tier swordsman.
Fortunately, Ma Xiuzhen and Ouyang Qing were no weaklings themselves.
Su Shaoying smiled. He recognized the elderly man, Hua Yukun, and the black-clad swordsman, Du Bai, a disciple of the Kongtong Sect who, in the original story, had also loved Lady Chu Chu and eventually perished with her.
The middle-aged man with the delicate features was indeed Jia Leshan. Hearing Su Shaoying's words, he merely smiled faintly and said, "Although my fleet has dispersed, my men are still loyal to me."
"The Iron-Faced Dragon King, truly formidable!" Su Shaoying exclaimed, then asked, "May I ask what brings you here at this late hour, Master Jia?"
"That is exactly what I was about to ask you," Jia Leshan said in a deep voice. "What business did you and Lu Xiaofeng have with me earlier today?"
Both He Xiu and Jin Jiuling were renowned figures in the jianghu, yet they had been defeated by Lu Xiaofeng and Su Shaoying. It would be a lie to say that Jia Leshan wasn't feeling a bit unnerved by their sudden visit earlier that day.
"We wanted to make a new friend," Su Shaoying said.
"Do you take me for a fool?" Jia Leshan asked.
"We weren't lying. We truly wanted to be friends with you," Su Shaoying smiled. "However, after becoming friends, we had a question we wanted to ask you."
"What question?"
"Did you send someone to kill Ouyang Yue?"
"Is Ouyang Yue dead?" Jia Leshan was shocked. "I saw him on the Qin Huai River just yesterday!"
Su Shaoying turned to Ouyang Qing at his side. "Has the South Palace clan blocked the news?"
Ouyang Qing replied indifferently, "It's not something we're proud of."
"I understand." Su Shaoying nodded, then got straight to the point. "Ouyang Yue was killed by a finger force expert. His brow was pierced with a single finger."
Jia Leshan, Chu Chu, and the black-clad swordsman, Du Bai, all looked at the elderly man with long fingernails, Hua Yukun, also known as One-Finger-to-the-Sky.
Hua Yukun looked bewildered as he exclaimed, "I didn't kill him!"
Su Shaoying's eyes flickered as he pondered the connection between Jia Leshan and the mysterious island. They... were both active at sea!
Damn that cunning 'Honest Monk'!
Su Shaoying had already guessed the Honest Monk's intentions. The monk had indirectly implicated Jia Leshan without directly accusing him, dragging Lu Xiaofeng, who loved to meddle in others' business, into the mess, and then Su Shaoying himself had jumped in out of curiosity.
While the Honest Monk was aware of the mysterious force of the Taiping Wangfu and the Nameless Island, he was not part of their group, despite having some understanding of them.
Su Shaoying didn't know how much the South Palace brothers had discovered, but it was clear that they knew of the connection between Ouyang Yue and this mysterious force, and the Honest Monk also had knowledge of them, which was why they had brought him in for questioning.
The results of the interrogation were unknown.
The Honest Monk clearly didn't want to, or dare to, provoke the Nameless Island himself. However, once he realized that Lu Xiaofeng was involved, he decided to use him as a tool to achieve his goals.
But he certainly wouldn't reveal this information himself, to avoid implicating himself. So, he had hinted at Jia Leshan's involvement without outright accusing him.
Jia Leshan was once known as the Iron-Faced Dragon King, active at sea, and it was highly likely that he knew about the Nameless Island. No, from the Honest Monk's behavior, it was certain that he knew about it and might even have some connection or conflict with them.
Lu Xiaofeng would then be able to learn about the Nameless Island from Jia Leshan, and whether he became friends or enemies with them after that would have nothing to do with the Honest Monk.
"The Honest Monk is truly dishonest!" Su Shaoying sighed, shaking his head.
Now that he had guessed the Honest Monk's intentions, Su Shaoying naturally wouldn't play along. Instead, he said seriously, "Judging by Master Jia and this elderly gentleman's reactions, I realize that we've guessed wrong."
Su Shaoying apologized sincerely, "I'm sorry, we misunderstood you. Let's part ways here."
