Chapter 333: One by One
Chapter 333: One by One
"Direct attack from my Elemental Hero Tempest!"
"Waaah!"
At Jaden's command, Tempest's hand cannon exploded on one of the Toma duo's faces. The latter let out a miserable scream as he was flipped over, his Life Points reduced to zero.
"We win!"
Jaden made a cheerful hand signal.
"What a fun duel!"
"Ugh..."
Although You Xuan's activated Dark Game barrier didn't put their lives at stake, there was still a degree of real damage. The face-to-face bombardment from the Elemental Heroes was no pleasant experience.
"Damn it," the black-robed man gritted his teeth. No wonder Nightshade, their boss, Deathlord, and even the Demon King, who had abandoned all scruples, had all fallen one after the other to these two students.
They were indeed powerful. The continuous fusions of the Elemental Heroes and their complementary exclusive traps had kept him suppressed throughout the duel. He could deeply feel the gap in strength between them as duelists; he was simply no match.
Just when he thought he had a chance, seeing his opponent's hand reduced to nothing in one turn, the next turn, his opponent miraculously top-decked a Bubbleman, special summoned it to draw two cards, and then used Greed to draw two more.
It was like alchemy, turning nothing into something of value. No, it was more like creating something from thin air, defying the concept of equivalent exchange.
However, as this duelist glumly looked at his partner, he felt a slight relief in his disappointment.
"The continuous trap, 'Warring States,' is active. As long as this card is on the field, both of us can only control monsters of up to one attribute." You Xuan said with a smile.
"You have the 'Troublesome Trio' on your field, so you can't summon any monsters."
"Then I'll directly attack with my 'Submarineroid.'"
"Submarineroid will switch to defense mode after attacking. So, sorry, but it looks like you can't use the Troublesome Trio to blow themselves up either."
". . ."
Seeing his partner raging and helpless against the trio who were casually drinking tea, snacking, and dozing off, his disappointment suddenly lessened.
In comparison, he suddenly felt that his own experience wasn't so bad after all. Although they had lost, it had been an interesting duel.
". . . Alright, then, as agreed." You Xuan clapped his hands and stepped forward. "Lead the way. Where's your base?"
The two black-robed figures exchanged a pained glance.
But in the end, they gritted their teeth and nodded.
"Alright, then let's go."
They didn't want to sell out their teammates, but the rules of the Dark Game were irresistible, and they were powerless to change the situation.
There was an old saying that went something like, "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade."
Indeed, that was the only option.
As they walked out of the Dark Star Club, a cold glint flashed in their eyes.
If they had to suffer, they would make sure their brothers-in-arms shared in their pain.
"Now that our boss has been taken down and we haven't received any instructions from headquarters, the situation doesn't look good," said the one known as Blackflame, scanning the few people in the room. "So, for now, I'll be taking over the boss's position until we receive further instructions from headquarters. Any objections?"
The candlelight flickered eerily, casting dancing shadows on the walls and the faces of those present. No one spoke.
"Good. Then it's decided," Blackflame said after a moment. "The Demon King mentioned that he's taken care of that Fujiki You Xuan, which is good news. 'Poison Fang' has gone to retrieve what we need, and he should be back soon.
I've already contacted headquarters and am awaiting their response. Getting our hands on the 'Seal Device' will undoubtedly be a great achievement."
Before he could finish his sentence, someone entered the room.
"I'm back."
"Oh? Poison Fang, you've been gone a while," Blackflame turned to him. "So, did that old Demon King try to rip you off?"
"Could it be that he didn't actually complete the task?" Blackflame furrowed his brows.
Poison Fang hesitated and nodded.
"Is Fujiki You Xuan still alive?" Blackflame asked, his brows knitting further. "What's going on with the Demon King? How dare he lie about not finishing the job!"
"But I've already lured him to the designated location," Poison Fang said quietly.
"Hmm, that's fine, then," Blackflame nodded, spreading out the Dueling City map on the table. "So, where is he now, and what's your plan?"
"Well... we might not even need the map." Poison Fang's voice dropped even lower.
"He's currently waiting for you right outside the door."
". . ."
Silence filled the room for a few seconds.
Blackflame's expression turned vicious. "Was it you who led this thing here?!"
"I... I had no choice. You know how Dark Duels work—if you lose, you're at the winner's mercy. I had to do it," Poison Fang explained, his voice filled with dread.
One of the black-robed figures at the round table slammed his hand on the table and stood up, rolling up his sleeves. "I say we strangle this guide first and then figure out our next move."
"Brothers, calm down!" Poison Fang jumped back in alarm. "I advise you to give up this futile resistance. I'm here to convey a message from the Man in Yellow. Think carefully before you dare to lay a finger on me."
Blackflame's anger only grew. "And here you are, feeling proud of yourself?"
". . ."
As the argument escalated, the door opened, and the duo in red and yellow uniforms appeared in the doorway, one on the left and the other on the right.
"Oh, so many duelists!" The one in red excitedly touched his Duel Disk.
"That means there'll be lots of interesting decks to face, right?" The one in yellow smiled.
"Don't rush. We'll take you on one by one. Who wants to go first?"
Everyone in the room froze briefly.
Blackflame gritted his teeth. "Tch, don't get too cocky. Just because you took down the Dead Spirit, you think our branch has no one left?!"
The black-robed figure by the round table slammed the table again. "Exactly! Don't get too carried away, kid!"
Before he could finish his sentence, Blackflame turned to him. "Good! Hayate, then you go first and show this brat what we're capable of."
Hayate: "?"
Before he could reply, You Xuan nodded. "You go first. Alright, then, let's get this duel started."
Hayate glared at Blackflame, his eyes burning with rage.
You think you can scheme against me?!
"It doesn't matter who goes first. Let's just duel already!" Jaden also picked a random opponent.
"Duel!" x4
". . ."
The four of them found their opponents and began their duels. The room was filled with flashing lights, flying monsters, and incessant cries and roars.
Blackflame watched as Hayate screamed relentlessly under the onslaught of Submarineroid, swallowing his saliva. He felt fortunate that he hadn't acted impulsively and dueled himself.
However, this was an opportunity.
Even if the Man in Yellow was powerful, taking on his teammates one by one would take time. Now was their chance to escape unnoticed.
As he rushed out the door, Blackflame was bewildered to find himself back in the room, as if he had just walked in from outside.
The Man in Yellow, with a smile, looked up from his duel and at Blackflame. "No need to rush. The duel isn't over yet. Why run?
I said, one by one. Everyone will get their chance, so there's no need to flee."
He narrowed his eyes. "Unless all of you fall or one of you manages to defeat me, no one will be able to leave this room."
Blackflame shuddered at his words and stumbled back a few steps, eventually slumping to the ground in a daze.
He had never felt such despair in his life.
