Chapter 333: Frenzy (2)
Chapter 333: Frenzy (2)
On September 23rd, Lu Jiaxin left for school after having breakfast in her apartment. The commute from the villa to school took a significant amount of time, but it was just a twenty-minute walk from her rented apartment to the classroom.
As soon as Lu Jiaxin returned to her apartment after school in the afternoon and sat down, her phone rang. Su Heyuan excitedly said, "Jiaxin, it's crashed! A big crash!"
From Su Heyuan, Lu Jiaxin learned that the greenback/yen exchange rate had plummeted right after the market opened that day. The closing rate last week was 240 points, but the opening rate today was 231 points, a direct drop of 9 points. Such a sharp drop was rare.
Lu Jiaxin laughed and said, "It's good that it dropped. I was worried it would make you lose money."
Su Heyuan felt that she was underestimating him by saying this. "The fact that you're willing to share such important news with me means that you consider me an insider. Even if there are losses, the decision was mine, and you can't blame me for it."
Lu Jiaxin smiled and said, "It's also fortunate that you asked your grandfather yesterday. You acted quickly. Otherwise, there's definitely no chance of buying at this rate today."
Su Heyuan also felt relieved and said, "Yes, my grandfather also said that I was decisive and had his youthful vigor. It's just a pity that you've invested all your money and couldn't buy any, or you would have made a good profit too."
Lu Jiaxin steered the conversation away from this topic and started talking about something else.
Su Heyuan thought she might be in a bad mood, so he went along with her and said, "When are you free? I'd like to treat you and Nie Zhan to dinner."
Lu Jiaxin smiled and said, "Friday and Saturday evenings are fine, but I might not be available on other days."
"Then let's make it Friday evening. Nie Zhan, you set it up."
"No problem."
After hanging up the phone, Su Heyuan finished dealing with the documents at hand and then went to see Grandpa Su. As soon as he arrived, he saw Su Xingcong, which only made him feel more annoyed.
Su Xingcong ignored his irritation and said to his father, "Dad, forex trading is really profitable these days. We can't miss out on such a great opportunity."
Su Heyuan never expected that they would come to ask his grandfather for money to trade forex. He felt even more grateful to Jiaxin. Yesterday, his grandfather had intervened, and the other party had agreed out of consideration for their long-standing relationship. But if his grandfather had tried to help today, it wouldn't have made a difference.
Grandpa Su said impatiently, "If you think forex trading can make money now, then go and figure out a way to get the money yourself. Stop always eyeing my retirement fund."
Su Xingcong insisted that this time they would definitely make a profit.
Grandpa Su became even more furious and scolded, "Over the years, you've lost money trading stocks, real estate, and land. Every time you lose money, I'm the one bailing you out. My retirement fund has been nearly depleted by your antics. Are you going to keep going until you've squeezed out my funeral expenses and left me to wander the streets?"
Whenever he gave money to Heyuan, whether it was for investments or stock and forex trading, he made a profit. And this child always knew to buy him gifts, take him out for meals, and spend time with him. As for his eldest son, he only showed up whenever he wanted money, and the amount he lost was directly proportional to how much he was given.
Su Xingcong was so desperate that he was about to swear to the heavens, "Dad, I promise we'll make a profit this time. If we lose again, I'll give my shares in the textile factory to your second son."
This "second son" was referring to Su Heyuan's father, Su Xingwen.
Su Heyuan didn't even care about the textile factory, so he certainly wouldn't want his shares, "Uncle, as far as I know, forex trading is indeed profitable these days, but many people are rushing to place orders. If you want to buy, you won't even be able to get through to place an order."
"Just because you can't get an order doesn't mean I can't."
If it had been before, Su Heyuan would have definitely mocked Su Xingcong. But thinking of what Jiaxin had said, he changed his mind, "Grandfather, if Uncle really gets a sell order, you can lend him the money. After the Plaza Accord yesterday, the greenback/yen rate will continue to fall for a while, so buying now will be profitable."
Su Xingcong stared at Su Heyuan with suspicion, feeling that this kid was up to no good again.
Su Heyuan said, "You claim to have a way to get a sell order, but talk is cheap. You need to provide evidence to convince Grandpa, and if you feel it's inconvenient to discuss it here, you can take him to the study."
Old Man Su was also puzzled as to why Su Heyuan would suddenly speak up for his eldest son, as they had always been at odds with each other. "Heyuan, are you serious about wanting me to lend your uncle money?"
Su Heyuan smiled and replied, "Of course, I am. Grandpa, I was young and impetuous before, but now I understand. My dad is right; after all, my uncle and I are closely related by blood, and I still hope for his well-being."
These words pleased Old Man Su immensely. "Hey, did you hear that? Come with me to the study."
What Su Heyuan didn't expect was that not long after they entered the study, cries of pain could be heard. When he rushed upstairs, he saw Old Man Su chasing Su Xingcong with his cane.
After Su Xingcong was stopped by Su Heyuan, Old Man Su began to scold him angrily. "Have you lived to be so old only to lose your wits? How could you fall for such a simple trick? How did I end up with such a foolish son like you?"
Well, it goes without saying that his so-called "connection" was a scam. Su Xingcong was left speechless, realizing that it was a scheme that could have been easily exposed with a single phone call to a bank or securities company, yet he had fallen for it.
Su Xingcong left with his tail between his legs.
Su Heyuan helped Old Man Su downstairs and, after they sat down, said, "Grandpa, you know how unreliable Uncle is. Don't be angry; it's not good for your health."
Old Man Su sighed. "Luckily, you turned out well. Otherwise, if your uncle and your dad were cut from the same cloth, my retirement fund would have been drained dry."
Su Heyuan didn't believe a word of it. It was said that a clever rabbit had three burrows, and the old man probably had nine. Someone as cautious as him would never hand over his entire retirement fund to his children.
Old Man Su, however, was quite pleased with his grandson's social connections. "Heyuan, who told you about this agreement? Friends like that are worth keeping."
"Jiaxin told me; she got the information from Nie Zhan."
Old Man Su nodded in approval. "That girl is quite something. You should take good care of her in the future."
Su Heyuan felt a bit embarrassed. That girl was incredibly capable and certainly didn't need his help. Instead, he was the one who had been relying on her all this time, whether it was with the clothing company or now with foreign exchange trading.
On Wednesday, Nie Zhan called Lu Jiaxin to let her know that Feng Qinglei had received a new batch of fresh ingredients, so the two of them went out for French cuisine that evening.
As soon as they sat down, Feng Qinglei asked eagerly, "Nie Zhan, the greenback/yen exchange rate has been falling for three days. I think it's time to close the position."
Nie Zhan shook his head. "The market will continue to fall. Many people want to short-sell, but they can't get their hands on the orders. Every day you hold on to your short position is another day of profit. If you close it now, you'll definitely regret it."
Feng Qinglei looked at Lu Jiaxin and asked, "How much did you buy, and when do you plan to close your position?"
Lu Jiaxin remained silent, bowing her head. Although she had signed a confidentiality agreement, she knew that walls had ears and that Nie Zhan's information network was exceptionally efficient. If word got out, she wouldn't be able to explain herself. Thus, she felt that silence was the best response.
However, Nie Zhan misinterpreted her silence, thinking that she was upset about not being able to get a sell order. So, he changed the subject. "I'm hungry. How's your lobster doing? Bring it out as soon as it's ready."
Feng Qinglei was also a sharp one. Seeing their reactions, he knew that Lu Jiaxin hadn't bought any. If Nie Zhan had informed him, he surely would have told his girlfriend as well. The only explanation was that Lu Jiaxin had refused. No wonder she seemed to be in a bad mood; even he would feel depressed in her shoes.
