Chapter 333: Conspiracy in the Headmaster's Office
Chapter 333: Conspiracy in the Headmaster's Office
"Actually, I find it quite strange."
Sherlock had just emerged from the Pensieve, his face calm as he looked at Dumbledore and Mad-Eye Moody.
"Bella's charge at the trial was for using the Cruciatus Curse to drive the Longbottoms, Neville's parents, insane. So, was that her only crime? If not, wouldn't the murders and other crimes she committed be enough to earn her a Dementor's Kiss?"
Mad-Eye Moody shook his head.
"You know, Sherlock, in the wizarding world, there is no death penalty. The Dementor's Kiss, while not a death sentence, is worse than death. However, no one considers it the ultimate punishment. When a soul is sucked out, the victim feels no pain at all."
"So, the highest penalty in magical law has always been a life sentence in Azkaban. No one can endure the Dementors' constant erosion of hope and happiness. The more resolute a person is, the longer they survive, but they also become more desolate."
"This torment has no end. In such an environment, they are left with no hope, only endless suffering."
As he spoke, Mad-Eye Moody turned to look at Dumbledore.
"This is also why Dumbledore has always disliked the Ministry of Magic's association with Dementors. He believes wizards should not have any contact with such creatures."
Dumbledore remained silent, tacitly agreeing with Mad-Eye Moody. He turned to Harry, his blue eyes, which seemed to see more than the magic eye, meeting Harry's gaze. He said softly,
"So, Harry, before you were drawn into the Pensieve, was there something you wanted to tell me?"
Harry did not hesitate. Both Sherlock and Mad-Eye Moody were trustworthy, so he had nothing to hide.
However, the dream-like scenes were now fragmented in his memory.
"Yes", Harry said. "Professor, I was in Divination, but I... I fell asleep."
He hesitated, expecting a reprimand, but Dumbledore said,
"I understand. Continue."
"Okay, I had a dream", Harry said. "I dreamed about Voldemort. He was torturing Peter. Do you know Peter?"
"I do", Dumbledore replied immediately. "Go on."
"Voldemort received a letter sent by owl. He said Wormtail had made a grave mistake, that someone had died, and that Peter's blood was unclean and would harm him. He also mentioned my name, saying that nothing must go wrong with me, and then my scar started to hurt. It hurt so badly that it woke me up."
His account was disorganized, but he managed to convey the key points.
After hearing Harry's story, Dumbledore's brow furrowed. Mad-Eye Moody and Sherlock, who had been listening, also fell into deep thought.
"Is this the second time, Harry?" Sherlock asked, looking at Harry. "Apart from when you came to see me during the summer, has this happened again?"
Harry scratched his head and thought for a moment.
"There have been a few headaches in between, but none as intense as the one during the summer or this one, where I saw actual visions."
He looked at Dumbledore, who was still deep in thought.
"Professor, do you know why my scar hurts?"
Dumbledore examined Harry carefully for a moment before replying, "I have only one hypothesis, and it's just a hypothesis. I believe that your scar pains you when Voldemort is near or when he harbors an especially strong desire for revenge."
"But... why is that?"
"Because the failed spell connected you to him", Dumbledore explained. "This is not an ordinary scar."
As he said this, both Harry and Dumbledore turned their gazes toward Sherlock.
Clearly, they both knew that the lightning-shaped scar on Harry's forehead had a part of Lily's magic behind it, and Sherlock had once tinkered with that magic.
Although Sherlock had improved the magic, he didn't know it had this effect, allowing Harry to dream about Voldemort.
"This shouldn't be an issue with the soul protection magic", Sherlock stated definitively. "The problem likely lies with Voldemort. He used a failed Killing Curse, the first such case in the history of magic. So, it's not surprising that Harry is experiencing any kind of aftereffects."
The office fell silent for a moment before Harry hesitantly asked, "So, is that dream... real?"
"It's possible", Dumbledore replied. "Harry, from your perspective, did you see Voldemort?"
"No", Harry answered honestly, "I only saw the back of his chair. There wasn't much to see, right? He doesn't have a body, does he? But... how could he pick up a wand to punish Peter?"
"Indeed", Dumbledore murmured, "how could he?"
Neither Sherlock nor Mad-Eye Moody could provide an answer, but Sherlock had more to think about.
He rubbed his chin and looked at Harry, saying, "If Harry can see what's happening on Voldemort's side, could Voldemort also see what's happening on Harry's side?"
Sherlock's words left the other three people in the room stunned, especially Harry and Mad-Eye Moody. A chill ran down their spines.
Mad-Eye Moody's magic eye whirled rapidly, and Harry's mouth hung open, unable to utter a word.
Only Dumbledore shook his head slowly.
"From what has happened so far, it seems unlikely. Otherwise, Harry wouldn't have been able to escape so easily during the second Triwizard Tournament task."
Despite Dumbledore's words, Harry still felt a creeping unease, as if a cold, unseen gaze was watching him from the darkness.
"However, let's put aside for now why your scar hurts and why you have such nightmares."
As Dumbledore spoke, he did not look at Harry but instead met Sherlock's gaze.
"We have another matter to discuss with you. I had planned to bring you in tomorrow to talk about this, but your timing today is perfect."
Hearing Dumbledore's words, Harry looked bewildered, and Mad-Eye Moody, who had not been informed of this, frowned slightly.
The door to the headmaster's office was tightly closed, and the headmaster portraits, already drowsy, began to snore softly, masking the conspiratorial whispers within the room.
