Chapter 332: The Farfetch'd that Dreams of Being a Sword Master
Chapter 332: The Farfetch'd that Dreams of Being a Sword Master
A flash of white light, and a brown-feathered Farfetch'd with a yellow bill appeared before Naoki. Clutched in its talons was a long leek, and its chest and abdomen were covered in creamy down. Its legs were a bright yellow, and three strands of hair stood erect on its head, the black "V" marking on its forehead giving it a resolute expression.
"Farfetch'd?!" Naoki exclaimed, his eyes widening in disbelief. He immediately thought of the Farfetch'd from last year, the one that had given Mew and Teddiursa a bunch of leeks.
"Could it be the same one?" he wondered aloud.
The Farfetch'd before him, leek in hand, lifted its head to regard Naoki.
"Hey, hello there," Naoki greeted it.
The Farfetch'd nodded solemnly, its expression stern as it replied, "Gaah!"
Naoki was stunned.
"Whoa! This Farfetch'd has style!" he thought.
"Are you a friend of Mew and Teddiursa? Were you also invited by them to live on the ranch?" Naoki asked.
"Gaah?" the Farfetch'd tilted its head, then shook its head. With a flourish, it brandished the leek in its hand.
Naoki couldn't understand, so he turned to the Requeen on the sofa for help.
He invited Farfetch'd to take a seat on the sofa. With Requeen's assistance in translating, Naoki finally grasped what the Farfetch'd wanted to convey.
It turned out that this Farfetch'd was not the same one that had given the ranch a bunch of leeks. Instead, it was another Farfetch'd that Mew and Teddiursa had encountered during their travels.
Farfetch'd explained that it had been living in a dense forest, diligently training beside a waterfall, practicing the technique of 'One-Letter Cut' to try and sever the waterfall, seeking the ultimate path of the "Leek".
Unfortunately, its training had hit a bottleneck, and it couldn't seem to progress any further.
Five days ago, it had encountered the Big Adventure Team.
The team had discovered it sitting atop the waterfall, looking glum.
Curious, Mew and Teddiursa had asked it why it looked so unhappy.
Farfetch'd shared its predicament with them.
"Gaah." (My training has hit a plateau. No matter what I do, I can't seem to improve further, and I don't know how to continue.)
After hearing this, Mew and Teddiursa inquired further, sharing the story of the Big Adventure Team with Farfetch'd.
Impressed by their deeds of kindness and the help they had offered to countless weaker Pokemon, Farfetch'd felt a sense of respect for them.
Over drinks (tree fruit)
, as the Pokemon chatted, Mew and Teddiursa suggested a path for Farfetch'd to follow.
They told it about a place called Naoki's Ranch, where someone would be able to help it enhance its strength.
And so, Farfetch'd had come, determined to sever the waterfall and perfect the "Leek" technique to the utmost limit.
Upon hearing Farfetch'd's story, Naoki and Requeen exchanged glances, taken aback.
"Sever the waterfall?" Naoki asked, astonished.
"With just that leek?"
Seeing the human before it doubt its capabilities, Farfetch'd gaze sharpened.
It placed its right wing on the leek's stalk and, in a flash, drew the leek like a sword, moving too fast for the eye to follow.
Naoki only saw a flash of white light, and then a glass on the table was cleanly sliced in two.
The cut was smooth and precise, a testament to the skill of the swords-bird.
Naoki was flabbergasted.
"What move was that? One-Letter Cut or Iai Slash? Amazing!"
Farfetch'd sheathed its leek, its expression calm as it replied, "Gaah." (But I'm not yet capable of doing something like that.)
Naoki recovered his wits and asked, "So, you came to the ranch to train?"
Farfetch'd nodded, "Gaah!"
Naoki scratched his head, looking perplexed. "But you're already so strong! I don't have any experience in this area, and I don't know how to help you cultivate your sword skills..."
"If it were a Farfetch'd that didn't know anything, that would be one thing..."
Farfetch'd looked disappointed.
Not wanting to disappoint Mew and Teddiursa, Naoki thought for a moment and then said, "But I can try. Show me all the techniques you currently know."
Farfetch'd nodded.
The two, human and Pokemon, stepped outside.
Farfetch'd then began to demonstrate the sword techniques it had mastered.
One-Letter Cut, Iai Slash, Swallow Return, and Sequential Slash.
When Farfetch'd finished, Naoki was dumbfounded. "That's it? Nothing more?"
"Gaah!" Farfetch'd affirmed.
Naoki was even more confused. "Do you know Sand Attack?"
Farfetch'd shook its head.
"What about Peck?"
Again, Farfetch'd shook its head.
"Or Drill Peck?"
Once more, a negative from Farfetch'd.
"Your specialization is a bit extreme, isn't it?" Naoki remarked, surprised.
Farfetch'd, however, felt that these techniques were sufficient. Using Sand Attack and pecking with its eating beak during battles with other Pokemon didn't align with its vision of a true swordsman.
Farfetch'd stood there, staring at Naoki, awaiting his response.
If this place couldn't help it progress further, it would have to leave and continue its solitary training in the wild.
Naoki, too, studied Farfetch'd.
A Farfetch'd that knew only four moves... It seemed that Farfetch'd was particularly interested in cultivating slash and sword-style techniques, while other moves were clearly not a priority for it.
Thinking of slash and sword techniques, a row of moves came to Naoki's mind:
The Air Slash, renowned for being able to split the sky itself;
The Sneak Strike, effective at striking vital points;
And the Regret Sword, imbued with the user's worldly attachments and regrets.
Beyond these were the exclusive moves of Legendary Pokemon.
Without another word, Naoki turned and went back into the living room. He picked out a basket of tree fruit, grabbed a knife, and began chopping the fruit into pieces before arranging them on a plate.
In just a few minutes, he had crafted eight servings of the tree fruit platter.
Naoki looked down at the platter, and information about it appeared in his mind.
[Tree Fruit Platter (B)
: A delicious dish made with various tree fruits, blending their unique flavors. Quite popular among some Pokemon.
Dish Effect: Skill Refinement. After consumption, a Pokemon's move will randomly change, with a chance to learn a powerful and rare move.
Evaluation: A basic dish that is easy to make and a great choice for home or travel.]
Naoki brought the tree fruit platters outside.
The Farfetch'd, holding its leek, was waiting under the eaves, its sharp gaze drifting towards the other Pokemon on the ranch.
"Here you go! Give it a try," Naoki said, placing the platters in front of the Farfetch'd.
The Farfetch'd looked down at the crudely cut fruit on the plate, and it hesitated. Could these really help it master those incredible sword techniques?
To verify its thoughts, the Farfetch'd began eating the tree fruit platter.
As it swallowed the last piece, its eyes suddenly sharpened.
Here it comes!
Naoki held his breath, his eyes fixed on the Farfetch'd.
Suddenly, the Farfetch'd yawned and then lay down on the grass, falling into a deep sleep.
"What?" Naoki was perplexed.
Was this... the Sleep Move with a Psychic-type twist?
He shook the Farfetch'd, but it was sleeping soundly. After a while, it finally woke up, looking refreshed and energetic.
The Farfetch'd turned to Naoki.
"Congratulations! You've successfully learned Sleep on your first try," Naoki said.
However, this was not what the Farfetch'd wanted to hear.
It looked at Naoki determinedly and said, "Gaah!" (Try again!)
Naoki realized that this Farfetch'd wouldn't give up easily, so he used up the entire basket of tree fruit to make eight servings of the platter.
After the first serving, Farfetch'd forgot the One-Letter Cut. Its eyes widened in shock as it felt the sensation of forgetting a move.
Following the second serving, Farfetch'd learned Sand Attack. Farfetch'd was taken aback and almost couldn't breathe.
Undeterred, it marched on to the next serving.
With the third serving, Farfetch'd forgot Iai Slash.
A determined Farfetch'd exclaimed, "Gaah!" (Try again!)
. It refused to believe its bad luck.
However, when it moved on to the fourth serving, Farfetch'd forgot Sleep.
The fifth serving made it forget Sand Attack again, the sixth made it forget Swallow Return, and the seventh made it forget Sequential Slash.
By now, Farfetch'd had forgotten all its moves, and its entire body was enveloped in a oppressive black mist.
Yet, Farfetch'd did not give up.
With a solemn expression and a stomach rounded from overeating, it wobbled over to the last serving of the tree fruit platter.
At this point, it had nothing left to lose!
"Gaah!"
Farfetch'd let out a fearless cry, lowering its head to quickly gobble up the final serving.
As the last piece of fruit was swallowed, Farfetch'd suddenly exuded a powerful aura, its eyes turning sharp and piercing. It then began to dance an intense battle dance while brandishing its leek.
The move was... Sword Dance! Upon finishing the dance, Farfetch'd felt its body filled with strength.
However, its bloated stomach made it feel extremely uncomfortable.
In the end, Farfetch'd, on the verge of being eaten to death, plopped down on the grass, emptied its mind, and gazed at the darkening sky, its voice weak as it spoke:
"Gaah..."
Just then, its vision was blocked by several heads.
Suddenly, Babo, Ice, and Pupa, along with other Pokemon, had gathered around, craning their necks to look at Farfetch'd, who had just devoured nine servings of the tree fruit platter.
Lady Frost: "Mama!" (It sure can eat! It devoured so many servings of the tree fruit platter in one go; it's even better than Dragonite!)
Ice: "Bui..." (It looks like it's about to die...)
Upon hearing this, Pupa became worried. It reached out with its small hand to feel Farfetch'd's nostrils and, sensing its breath, breathed a sigh of relief. "Pony!" (It's not dead!)
Farfetch'd was so full that it felt miserable, and its eyes had taken on a vacant stare.
Naoki approached with a smile, looking at the dazed Farfetch'd, and asked, "How are you feeling now?"
Farfetch'd did not respond.
Naoki began to worry. He touched Farfetch'd's hardened stomach, thinking that it might have eaten itself to death. There were indeed several cases in the Pokemon world of Pokemon falling ill from overeating...
Naoki was anxious because the ranch didn't have the facilities to deal with this situation.
He quickly took out Farfetch'd's Poke Ball, recalled it, and then rode Golurk into town to the Pokemon Center.
Upon hearing that Farfetch'd had eaten nearly forty tree fruits, Nurse Joy was shocked.
"How did this happen?" she exclaimed, her face filled with concern.
Together with her assistant, Audino, they quickly placed Farfetch'd on a stretcher and wheeled it into the emergency room.
Holding Farfetch'd's leek, Naoki felt a mix of emotions.
Why was this Farfetch'd so foolish? he wondered. He waited at the Pokemon Center for almost an hour before the door to the emergency room finally opened again.
Nurse Joy emerged, looking relieved. "It's alright now. I just helped Farfetch'd induce vomiting, and it has expelled all the fruit it ate."
Naoki heaved a sigh of relief.
Nurse Joy asked, "Mr. Naoki, is Farfetch'd a Pokemon you just caught recently?"
Naoki shook his head. "No, it came to the ranch from somewhere else."
"I see," Nurse Joy said, enlightened. "That's why I thought it was unusual to see a Farfetch'd in the Pasio region. Oh, by the way, Farfetch'd has woken up. You can go in and see it now!"
Naoki nodded and, along with Golurk, entered the ward.
Farfetch'd was lying on the bed, looking dazed. Upon hearing their voices, it turned its head.
"Are you feeling better now?" Naoki asked, feeling guilty. "I'm sorry, it was my fault. I shouldn't have let you eat so much fruit."
At that time, his attention had been focused on the moves that Farfetch'd was about to master, and he hadn't noticed the amount of fruit it was consuming.
Farfetch'd's eyes cleared, and it thought of how this human had looked so anxious as he brought it for treatment. It was slightly moved and gently shook its head.
"Ga." (It's not your fault.)
It had chosen to eat all that fruit.
Naoki handed over the leek. "Here's your weapon. Take it."
Farfetch'd took the leek, feeling a sense of security.
Farfetch'd had been vomiting for a long time and was now feeling weak.
Naoki didn't rush to leave. Instead, he sat there, keeping Farfetch'd company.
He poured a cup of warm water and helped Farfetch'd drink it.
"Don't worry," he said. "Let's head back together soon. I promise I'll find a way to help you relearn the moves you've forgotten."
