Chapter 331: The Prophecy
Chapter 331: The Prophecy
Kyle was naturally delighted to receive full marks without having to take the exam.
Although it was a pity to return the Advanced Potion-Making book, Kyle had already read through its contents three times and transcribed his notes into a new book. So, returning it to Snape was no big deal.
...
By the third day of exam week, only two subjects remained.
Early in the morning, Kyle made his way to the top of the North Tower for his Divination exam.
There was a trick to Divination; even if you hadn't studied at all and knew nothing, as long as you gave a prediction that pleased Professor Trelawney, you could still get a high score.
Kyle leaned over to gaze into the crystal ball.
"What do you see..." Professor Trelawney asked, her face stern as she clearly disapproved of Kyle's absence from her classes all term.
Perhaps giving him a very low score would make him realize the importance of Divination... Professor Trelawney thought to herself.
"Hmm..." Kyle pressed his nose against the crystal ball, "I see a figure..."
"What does it look like?" Professor Trelawney asked softly, "Think about it..."
"He's tall and has a beard..."
"It's Professor Dumbledore!" Kyle said confidently.
"The Headmaster!" Professor Trelawney murmured, somewhat surprised.
"Yes, it's Professor Dumbledore," Kyle whispered, "He looks dejected, walking hunched over on a street... There are houses on both sides, but no one opens their doors to him, and everyone drives him away."
"Are you sure, dear?" Professor Trelawney asked eagerly as she scribbled on a piece of parchment, "You truly see Professor Dumbledore?"
"I'm certain, Professor,"
Kyle affirmed, "He looks like an unwelcome, venomous spider."
"Well, dear, that's enough... This is incredible... You have a real talent for prophecy."
Professor Trelawney said delightedly, "But Divination is a profound subject, and talent alone is not enough. Remember to attend classes from now on."
Kyle smiled and nodded, ready to leave, but suddenly, he heard a loud, grating voice behind him.
"Tonight..."
Kyle turned around and saw Professor Trelawney sitting rigidly in her armchair, her eyes vacant and her mouth agape.
Her eyes were rolling, her whole body twitching involuntarily, and the crystal ball on the table glowed slightly, reflecting her appearance.
At that moment, Professor Trelawney spoke again, her voice grating.
"The Dark Lord lies alone and friendless, his deepest secret discovered.
Tonight, the Dark Lord begins his journey towards death... But he shall rise again... Bearing his... most powerful... weapon..."
Professor Trelawney's head drooped to her chest, emitting a rumbling sound, and then, suddenly, she lifted her head again.
"I'm sorry, dear child," she said dazedly, "It's too hot, you know. I dozed off..."
"Yes, Professor, you're tired," Kyle said with a smile.
He glanced at the crystal ball on the table, "Professor, I suddenly realized how right you were earlier. To practice divination regularly, may I purchase this crystal ball... or borrow one for the holidays?"
Professor Trelawney was a bit bewildered but nodded, "If it's just to borrow, then of course, but remember to return it. Crystal balls are expensive."
"No problem, Professor," Kyle picked up the crystal ball from the table, "I'll bring it back next semester, good as new."
As Kyle walked down the stairs, he kept his eyes on the crystal ball in his hand...
Professor Trelawney had clearly made a genuine prophecy, and this crystal ball had recorded everything.
But what about that powerful weapon? Kyle racked his brains, thinking of various possibilities.
However, after five minutes, he put the crystal ball away.
Prophecies were meant to be heard but not delved into too deeply. Voldemort's belief in that particular prophecy had led him down his current path... a cautionary tale.
...
In the afternoon, Kyle finished his last exam, Magical History, on the third floor.
Within the castle, people chatted and laughed as they made their way to the grounds, ready to enjoy a bit of long-awaited freedom.
Kyle also prepared to head to Hagrid's, but just as he took a few steps, someone called out to him.
"Kyle... Do you have a moment?"
It was Lockhart, standing at the entrance to his office.
"What is it, Professor?" Kyle asked.
"It's nothing much. I'm just curious about some things." Lockhart opened the door to his office. "Come in. Don't worry, I won't keep you long."
"Alright." Kyle nodded in agreement.
The walls of the office were covered with countless picture frames, all of them self-portraits of Lockhart, some even bearing his signature.
There was also a stack of photos on the desk.
"Have a seat." Lockhart pointed to a soft, spacious chair. "Would you like something to drink? Tea, whiskey... I think an occasional sip of whiskey is fine. At least here, no one else will know about it."
"No, thank you, Professor. I can get it myself." Kyle tapped his finger on the table three times and clearly called out, "Lemonade."
This was a trick he had learned from Professor Dumbledore—tapping the table three times allowed one to communicate with the kitchen.
Soon, a large glass of lemonade appeared in front of Kyle.
"Oh!" Lockhart looked a bit surprised.
"Amazing!" he exclaimed. "I dare say, at your age, there's no other young wizard who can match your abilities."
"It's just a little trick for getting food from the kitchen." Kyle said, "I'm sure you know it as well, Professor."
"Of course, I learned it as soon as I arrived." Lockhart flashed his shiny teeth. "Although the whiskey provided by the school is a bit mediocre, it's nice to change things up occasionally."
Kyle nodded but didn't mention that the kitchen didn't provide any alcoholic beverages.
"Professor, why did you want to see me?"
"Almost forgot the main issue." Lockhart sat down across from Kyle, his interest piqued. "I'm fascinated by what you experienced in that hidden room, and I want to include it in my new book."
"Are you going to write about me in your book?" Kyle asked, surprised.
"Of course, you're a crucial part of the story." Lockhart said softly.
"But I already told you everything that happened when we were in the Headmaster's office. You were there, too." Kyle frowned.
"I want the details, the nitty-gritty. Those experiences are essential."
Lockhart patiently explained, "So, let me ask, and you just answer. First, what was your initial thought when you discovered the hidden room?"
"Unbelievable, I suppose. I was shocked..." Kyle thought for a moment before answering.
"And what was your first reaction when you saw the Basilisk?"
"Unbelievable, I was shocked..."
"And after seeing the four founders?"
"Unbeliev... wait, change that!"
"Alright, I was delighted."
