Chapter 330: Turning the Tables
Chapter 330: Turning the Tables
"Bang Bang!"
The rapid knocking on the door echoed through the room.
Sinel's eyebrows furrowed, and he offered a slight apologetic smile to the other two in the room before getting up to open the door.
"Is that you?" he asked.
Seeing Jeff standing before him, Sinel's voice turned cold. "What's the matter?"
"It's important," Jeff said, his usual sycophantic smile plastered on his face. He rubbed his hands together and produced a brass vessel from behind his back.
"Senior, this is yours..."
"Angus the Wizard?"
Upon recognizing the person in the room, Jeff's face lit up with joy. He dashed past Sinel and approached Angus.
"Wizard Angus, do you remember me? I was an apprentice who entered the academy with you, but I couldn't pass the exam and had to leave. I'm not worthy of being compared to you."
"My name is Jeff!"
"Jeff?" Angus asked, his face expressionless. He slowly nodded. "I remember you."
"Although my talent wasn't remarkable, I was good at getting things done. I heard you've been doing well for yourself since leaving the academy."
With the powerful psychic power of a wizard, it was impossible to forget anyone they had met in their daily lives.
Unless, of course, it was a deliberate act of forgetting or the influence of witchcraft.
"You're too kind," Jeff said, bowing slightly. "Thanks to you, I've been fortunate enough to acquire materials needed by academy wizards and advanced wizard apprentices in the market, allowing me to earn a decent living."
"By the way," Jeff began.
"That Linen kid has been taken care of by me. He will never bother you again."
"..." Angus didn't respond but instead looked at Sinel, his eyes filled with disgust.
"Senior."
Sinel's expression changed, and he took a step forward, kicking Jeff to the ground. "What nonsense are you spouting?"
"When did you ask me to take care of Linen? He's just a minor character of no importance."
"Yes, yes," Jeff scrambled to his feet, his hand reaching out to slap his own cheek. He cackled, "It was my own initiative, and it has nothing to do with the two of you. Please don't take it to heart."
As he slapped his face, making a loud smacking sound, he handed the brass vessel to Sinel. "Senior, this item you lent me is excellent. Now it can be said that a deep abyss monster killed him, and no one will trace it back to us."
"Hmph!"
Sinel snatched the vessel from Jeff's hand and glared at him. "What's wrong with you today? You're talking as if you have no brain. Where's the wit you used to have?"
The usual Jeff would never act so foolishly, especially not by offering unsolicited favors without knowing the full situation.
Killing Linen was the senior's wish, but was it something he should have mentioned?
How stupid!
As for the brass vessel containing the horned demon, it was actually a valuable high-grade enchanted item. Naturally, it was only borrowed and not meant to be given to him.
"Yes, yes," Jeff nodded repeatedly.
When he saw Sinel inspecting the vessel, his eyes flashed with a strange light. Suddenly, he clenched his fingers and began to chant a spell.
"Bang!"
Suddenly, the vessel's lid popped open, and a cloud of smoke emerged, carrying with it the frenzied, murderous, and chaotic aura of the horned demon.
Oh no!
Sinel's expression changed abruptly.
Angus, seated nearby, reacted even faster, his body jerking backward as a terrifying psychic pressure descended upon them.
The other advanced wizard apprentice, observing from the side, was a moment slower to react, and he scrambled to retreat a second later.
Angus's training and heritage were different from those of ordinary wizard apprentices, and he excelled in creating various illusions. His psychic power far surpassed that of his peers, and in that moment, he unleashed his power, instantly suppressing the smoke and revealing the scene within.
"Roar!"
A horned demon, its body engulfed in crimson flames, leaped out of the vessel and charged towards Sinel.
"Be careful!"
Angus instinctively shouted, but Jeff, with a maniacal grin, lunged at him.
Puppetry?
As a master of the mind, Angus immediately understood Jeff's situation. He had been controlled by someone's spell.
However, the sudden turn of events left Angus with no time to help Jeff break free from the witchcraft.
Moreover,
Angus had no intention of helping.
"Boom!"
Angus's raging psychic power transformed into a colossal hammer, merging with the floating elemental particles in the air to form a solid entity. It then slammed down with immense force.
Jeff, charging forward, felt the world darken before him, and his perception was filled with nothing but the looming hammer.
"Bang!"
In an instant, Jeff's head exploded, and his headless corpse stumbled forward before collapsing awkwardly on the ground.
On the other side,
The horned demon, its body enveloped in flames, went berserk, attacking Sinel with all its might.
As Angus stepped in, the horned demon seemed to understand something and let out a deafening roar towards the sky.
The fire elemental particles in the air suddenly stirred.
Oh no!
Angus' expression changed, and his body transformed into a phantom, retreating violently towards the back. In his ethereal state, he passed through the window and walls, reappearing outside the courtyard.
Behind him.
"Boom!"
A massive flame engulfed half of the courtyard, with temperatures at its core hot enough to melt steel. The fire soared into the sky.
Needless to say,
Sinel was done for.
"Senior."
Another apprentice fled even faster, narrowly escaping the disaster, and breathed a sigh of relief.
"That was close!"
One day.
As usual, Linen came to the area under Natalie's responsibility, bringing the potion he had crafted for the academy.
"Wait."
Just as he was about to leave, Natalie stopped him.
"Come with me."
"Yes, ma'am." Linen's eyes filled with doubt as he followed her to a wooden house.
Natalie took out a jade pendant with a golden rim from her body and placed it in his hand with a solemn expression.
"Linen."
"I've been investigating the matter of Kito's disciples, and although I don't know the specifics, it's highly likely that he's involved."
"Based on my guess, Kito is probably using his disciples as a resource for his own advancement, devouring their talents and cultivation to increase his own strength."
"Hmm?" Linen's face changed slightly.
"Doesn't the academy do anything about this?"
"There are too many apprentice wizards who die during their cultivation, and many of their deaths are unexplained. The academy turns a blind eye to these incidents." Natalie shook her head.
"Moreover, Kito is a full-fledged wizard. As long as he doesn't go too far, no one will pay attention."
"This thing..."
She pointed to the jade pendant and said,
"I obtained this enchanted item a few years ago. It can increase your defense against psychic attacks. If Kito really intends to make a move on you, it can help you resist a little."
Of course.
This was just a temporary measure.
Natalie planned to find an opportunity to keep Linen by her side in the future to ensure his safety.
"This..." Linen looked at the jade pendant in his hand and nodded slowly.
"Thank you."
"Don't be polite with me. I owe you. If it weren't for you, I might have already died." Natalie shook her head.
"Go back."
"Even if Kito wants to use you for his cultivation, he will wait until your cultivation reaches the intermediate apprentice wizard level. There's no rush."
No rush? Linen sighed softly.
He wouldn't suppress his cultivation progress. Currently, he had already started advancing towards the intermediate apprentice wizard level.
...
"Linen."
A middle-aged woman with a pale face knocked on his door and said,
"You don't need to handle the Vire Town matter anymore. From now on, follow Kito Wizard and learn his wizardry."
"..." Linen stared at her, his fingers trembling slightly as he nodded slowly.
"Okay."
"Pack your things. We're leaving." The middle-aged woman said,
"I'll give you an hour to take care of your affairs."
"Yes, ma'am." Linen turned around and packed his belongings, asking casually,
"As far as I know, all of Kito's disciples have encountered difficulties. How did you, Senior, manage to survive?"
"When I became Kito's apprentice, he wasn't a wizard yet." The middle-aged woman's eyes narrowed as she stared at him.
Hmm? Linen raised his eyebrows.
Did that mean Kito only started using his disciples for cultivation after becoming a full-fledged wizard?
"Senior."
Linen turned around, putting the bundle on his back.
"The mentor turned you into a puppet, and your life and death are no longer in your control. You're at his mercy. Don't you want to escape?"
"Hehe..." The middle-aged woman lowered her head and laughed, her laughter eerie and terrifying.
"Linen."
"It seems you've found out something, but those rumors don't mean that the mentor gave me a second life, and I will always treat him well."
"As for you, don't listen to the seduction of certain people. Always believe in the mentor, just like believing in the truth."
Hmm,
The attempt to turn her failed!
