Chapter 330: Invading Brain Cells (Thirty)
Chapter 330: Invading Brain Cells (Thirty)
Fifteen minutes ago, in the real world, the Reasoning Club.
At this moment, the four players remained locked inside the iron cage, slumped against its bars in a daze. Their state wasn’t sleep or unconsciousness—it was more like "awake dreaming." Their eyes were open, their brains active, yet they couldn’t hear, see, or sense their physical imprisonment. Their consciousness had been trapped elsewhere.
The iron cage hung suspended midair, surrounded by six rows of tightly packed bookshelves forming a hexagonal area. Each side of the hexagon measured approximately 2.5 meters, and each towering bookshelf reached 7.5 meters high. The space between the shelves’ tops and the ceiling accommodated a grand chandelier.
Both sides of the shelves were lined with books, separated by partitions. Even if someone pulled a book out, they’d only see the partition, not the adjacent space. If the players climbed the shelves, they’d discover six identical hexagonal zones pressed against this one. Beyond those lay another ring of twelve hexagons. And beyond that… the pattern continued endlessly.
Viewed from the ceiling, the Reasoning Club resembled a vast honeycomb of bookshelves, each hexagon a hive cell. How large was this place? From the top of the shelves, the honeycomb’s edge vanished into the horizon.
Nearby, in another hexagon, a Giraffe paced before a bookshelf, its nose bearing a pair of glasses as it muttered to itself.
"Hmm… where did I leave that book?" it mused.
"You’re harder to track down than I expected", a low, raspy male voice interrupted from behind.
"Oh? You’re here… a rare guest indeed", the Giraffe replied without turning.
In three seconds, the Giraffe began to "change." Its form dissolved into a blur of pixels, then reshaped—its size, color, and structure shifting—until it solidified into a man’s figure. This was the Professor Moriarty the players knew.
"I heard the Time Lord and the Tribunal of Truth are hunting you and your allies", the transformed figure said, his voice now indistinguishable from Professor Moriarty’s. "You’re not hiding here, are you, Bi Li?"
Puppet Bi Li remained unchanged—his black suit, red bowtie, and tiny tricycle intact. His face, as always, was a pale, eerie mask. "Certainly not. Everyone knows Zhuan Jie Zun maintains strict neutrality. Why would he shelter a big troublemaker like me?"
"Then why are you here?" Zhuan Jie Zun asked, his tone shifting from casual to threatening. "Have you come to offer this Reasoning Club as new territory for the Lord of Demons?"
"Even if cornered, I’d never ally with that monster", Bi Li replied. "Becoming his subordinate is riskier than surrendering. I’m here for a small favor—something trivial for you."
"Funny", Zhuan Jie Zun said. "If it’s trivial, why come to me? That implies it’s anything but."
"Just release the otherworldly travelers in that cage", Bi Li said.
"Let them leave?" Zhuan Jie Zun asked. "You mean abandon the Reasoning Club?"
"Precisely."
"It’s not that I refuse", Zhuan Jie Zun said slowly, pointing to his head, "but they’ll need to escape… from my mind first."
"They’ll manage", Bi Li replied, his expression unchanging. "With that person involved, they’ll break free."
"Are they your friends?" Zhuan Jie Zun asked.
"Not friends—just someone I’ve crossed paths with, and owe a debt", Bi Li admitted. "I know they’ll escape your mental world. And I know you’ll strike once they do. So…"
"I see", Zhuan Jie Zun said, his form shifting into Sherlock Holmes. Adopting a British accent, he added, "It’s a small favor—sending them out or sending them out dead makes no difference to me. But why should I comply? We share no bond, and you lack the power to threaten me. Though I’ve heard whispers of your cunning…" His tone remained light, yet his words grew sharper. "You trespass here, giving orders. I could ignore it. But if this is a ploy to provoke a clash with one of the Four Pillars…"
"If you refuse", Bi Li interrupted, turning his tricycle as if to leave, "pretend I never came. Kill them if you like—I’m just repaying a debt. It’s easy to settle later. Frankly, even if I don’t…"
"Wait", Zhuan Jie Zun called. "I have a counteroffer."
Bi Li paused. "Speak."
"I’ll grant your ‘small favor’", Zhuan Jie Zun said, "if you share some intelligence I crave." He tilted his head, smiling. "For you, it’s just words—no need to lift a finger."
"What do you want?" Bi Li asked coldly.
"I’ve heard you’ve been close to the Inner World’s derivative beings", Zhuan Jie Zun said. "Coincidentally, one of them recently visited my mind and took a certain item." His form shifted again—this time into Little Red Riding Hood, her voice sweet and feminine. "I’m curious… do you know the legendary—Zeroth Derivative Being?"
