Chapter 330: A Duel That Never Came in Eleven Years
Chapter 330: A Duel That Never Came in Eleven Years
Hermione looked at Dugdale in surprise.
She was well aware of what the Death Eaters represented. They were the followers and underlings of the Dark Lord, a group of evil and insane people!
Aisha also frowned slightly.
Dugdale's face changed dramatically, and he looked at Ivan with suspicion, not quite understanding how Ivan knew about this.
"I noticed the Death Eater's unique Dark Magic mark on your left wrist, so I was curious", Ivan said casually, his eyes never leaving Dugdale's every move.
Dugdale instinctively covered his left wrist, his face grim. Finally, he mumbled, "That's all in the past. I'm no longer a Death Eater. Besides, the Dark Lord has been dead for a long time, hasn't he?"
"The Dark Lord is not dead! I saw him with my own eyes at Hogwarts", Ivan shattered Dugdale's illusions, paused for a moment, and then continued, "What if the Dark Lord returns one day? What will you do if he starts gathering his old followers?"
"Impossible! He can't come back, absolutely not!" Dugdale said, emphasizing each word.
"Maybe not! You'd better think about it now", Ivan pressed relentlessly.
"Enough!" Dugdale interrupted Ivan, clearly irritated. "Whether I'm a Death Eater or not isn't important, is it? We shouldn't be discussing this right now!"
"I think it's very important! Given the current situation, I need to be cautious", Ivan's tone was sharp. He needed to understand Dugdale's position!
After all, he had thwarted Voldemort's resurrection plan and destroyed two Horcruxes. There was no possibility of reconciliation with Voldemort.
Unless he destroyed all of Voldemort's Horcruxes, Dugdale, as a Death Eater, would always be a threat!
Ivan couldn't afford to have such a threat around Aisha!
"Are you accusing me of working with Brock to organize this attack?" Dugdale understood the implications of Ivan's words and was visibly angered. He couldn't fathom why Ivan would have such a ridiculous idea.
Ivan's eyes remained fixed on Dugdale as he said firmly, "Someone once told me that you were part of the resistance, but during a battle, the Death Eaters captured you.
You couldn't withstand the torture and betrayed your comrades within days, joining Voldemort and becoming a Death Eater!"
"Why? Because that person promised you power and fame?" Ivan said sarcastically.
"Who told you this!" Dugdale roared, lunging to grab Ivan's shoulder but was pushed back by a wave of air, crashing into the wall behind him. His Wand fell to the ground a short distance away.
Ivan took a few steps forward, picked up Dugdale's Wand, and was about to cast a spell to bind Dugdale in case he suddenly attacked.
"Ivan!"
At that moment, Aisha grabbed Ivan's arm, shook her head at him, and then turned to Dugdale, apologizing, "I'm sorry, Dugdale. Ivan didn't mean any harm. Please forgive him for being a bit too aggressive."
Ivan looked at Aisha in surprise but didn't say anything. His knowledge of Dugdale was limited.
Apart from a few interactions and some not-so-vivid memories, he had only heard part of Dugdale's story from Headmaster Bohan, which might have been distorted.
Aisha had known Dugdale for over a decade and likely had a better understanding of him. Ivan wouldn't interfere.
Aisha took the Wand that Ivan had confiscated and walked over to Dugdale, handing it to him with a touch of nostalgia.
"Speaking of which, we've known each other for a long time. You've never mentioned your past. If you don't mind, could you tell me about it?"
"I believe you have nothing to do with this, but I have some grievances with those Death Eaters. If you don't explain yourself, I think our cooperation might have to end here."
Dugdale took the Wand and calmed down, sitting down dejectedly, looking rather disheveled. He fell silent for a moment, then turned his gaze to Ivan, speaking in a hoarse voice.
"Did my father tell you about these things?"
Ivan hesitated before nodding.
"I don't know exactly what he told you, but I doubt it was anything good", Dugdale said, giving a self-deprecating laugh and then speaking with a touch of sarcasm.
"He's always been that way, rigid, domineering, brutal, and stubborn. He can't stand anyone defying his will. He's just a self-righteous madman."
Ivan listened silently as Dugdale continued to rant for a while. After catching his breath, he sighed and began to recount his story.
"It was the wizarding war thirteen years ago. If you count from the time Voldemort gathered the Death Eaters and started the uprising, the war had already lasted eleven years!
At the beginning, the Ministry of Magic and we resistance fighters organized several offensives to suppress the chaos caused by the Death Eaters.
Back then, the Death Eaters were weak and no match for the Aurors.
But every time Voldemort appeared on the battlefield, he could instantly turn the tide, defeating the Aurors. His magic was incredibly powerful; no matter how many people there were, they were no match for the Dark Lord!
Once the battle was over, Voldemort would cruelly torture and kill the prisoners who refused to surrender. He would order the Death Eaters to capture and kill their families and friends!
For the rest, Voldemort would use any means necessary to force them to join the Death Eaters, even using the Imperius Curse to control them and organize a larger destruction and massacre as retribution!
Voldemort's cruel methods made more and more people give in to the pressure and surrender. His power grew, and he recruited a large number of dark creatures, to the point where even the Ministry's Aurors dared not stop the Death Eaters' actions."
Ivan listened intently to Dugdale's account. This was the first time he had such a direct understanding of the previous wizarding war.
"Professor Dumbledore? Where was he? Isn't he the one Voldemort fears the most?" Hermione, who had been listening, couldn't help but ask.
The Death Eaters could act so brazenly largely because of Voldemort's immense power, which no one could match.
But according to what she knew, Professor Dumbledore was the most powerful wizard in the magical world!
"I want to know too!" Dugdale said through gritted teeth.
"From the start of the war, we all waited! We waited for Dumbledore to step in and defeat or kill Voldemort, to end this war, just as he had defeated Grindelwald!"
"But he didn't. We waited for eleven years! Eleven years!"
