Chapter 330:
Chapter 330:
"The Phantom Lord?" Mira frowned. "Were there any injuries?"
Elusa replied, "No one was injured. They attacked the guild when it was empty at night."
The best news was that no one was hurt, but the thought of the possible state of the guild made Rod's heart sink.
"Is it because of something I did in the past?"
Rod recalled the two times he had drawn against the Phantom Lord, once with Mira and once with Elusa and Natsu, but both times it was against members of the branch guild.
Elusa said, "The reason is still unclear. We've never gotten along with the Phantom Lord, and maybe the hostility has accumulated to the limit. I don't think it's just your problem, so don't overthink it."
Rod wasn't the only one who had clashed with the Phantom Lord; most of them had come out on top, but a few had been on the losing end.
However, those who had been wronged usually didn't mention it in the guild, so it was difficult to judge which side had the advantage.
"We're heading back right now." Mira asked, "What did the Guild Master say?"
Elusa answered, "The Guild Master said that since no one was injured, there's no need to pay attention to cowards who only dare to strike in the dark. So, we shouldn't bother with them."
"No, if something like this happens and we don't react at all, they might take advantage of the situation."
"But the Guild Master already said that." Elusa was reluctant to let it go, but she didn't have a better idea. "Anyway, you two should come back quickly. The guild might need to be rebuilt, and there will be a lot to do when you get back."
"We're on our way..." Rod checked the time; it was already noon. "We can travel overnight and arrive early tomorrow morning."
Elusa wanted to say that there was no need to rush, but she knew that the Guild Master had called them back mainly to have them take charge of the guild's reconstruction.
However, she knew that these two would not be able to rest easy knowing about the guild's situation, so she reluctantly nodded.
Rod thought for a moment and said, "Let's try to persuade the Guild Master again. This time, they attacked the building, but next time, they might target people. We need to find out their true intentions quickly, and then..."
Rod wasn't sure what to do next, but the most advantageous move would be to have the Council intervene, and the most satisfying course of action would be to strike back.
Given Fairy Tail's style, they would likely choose the latter. Rod felt that he just needed to consider how to deal with the Council.
After this fight, either the Phantom Lord would be disbanded or Fairy Tail would face the same fate. The 'Non-Aggression Treaty between Guilds' was no joke, and perhaps the Guild Master was considering this as well.
Small skirmishes were one thing, but a war between the two top guilds of Phore was a significant event. As a member of the Ten Wizard Saints, she would have to consider the stability of the magic world.
However, the destruction of a building did not seem to cross the line of the Council.
"I understand." Elusa was not completely without her own opinions. "Even if the Guild Master doesn't say anything, I'll make sure everyone stays alert. So, that's it."
"See you at the guild."
"See you at the guild."
The communication ended, and the magic crystal returned to its normal state, like a large glass ball, reflecting the images of the two inside.
They looked at each other, holding hands, their eyes filled with concern and encouragement.
"Let's go," they said in unison.
Whether it was anger or sadness, they needed to return to the guild first.
Rod placed his hand on Wendy's head and patted it gently. "I'm sorry, Wendy, Sharuru. Something happened at the guild, and we need to go back immediately."
Wendy asked anxiously, "Do you need our help?"
Mira smiled at her. "Don't worry, we can handle it. We'll come back to see you after a while."
They couldn't let Cat Transformation Village get involved in this trouble.
The two bade farewell, quickly packed their belongings, and hurriedly left on the Crab Ship.
Mira didn't even have time to change her clothes.
This time, they didn't plan to take the ferry or travel by sea; instead, they decided to rush back to the guild day and night, taking the most direct route.
They traveled on the Crab Ship on flat roads, and when the terrain became difficult, they switched to the Beaked Bird, Armored Beetle, and Shadow Wolf.
Along the way, Mira and Rod didn't talk much, but they could feel each other's worries through the sweat in their palms.
The best news was that no one was injured, but the guild had been damaged to the point of needing reconstruction...
The Phantom Lord wouldn't have a single intact building left.
They raced through the changing terrain, making several transfers along the way, and as night fell, they forced themselves to eat some bread for energy, though it was tasteless.
Rod took out a blanket and spread it on the Crab Ship's back. "Ahead is a vast plain. You should get some rest; we'll arrive tomorrow."
"What about you?"
"I'm not sleepy. I need to keep watch on the road anyway."
Mira thought for a moment, leaned against his chest, and closed her eyes, wrapping his arm around herself as if tucking her in.
In truth, Mira didn't feel like sleeping either; she wanted to take over for him later in the night and get some rest herself.
Lord Rod's mind was a jumble as he recalled the intelligence related to Phantom, comparing the strengths of the two guilds.
There were dozens of branches, plus a headquarters with an unspecified location—apparently called the Hexapedal Guild, which could move at any time.
The number of members wasn't a significant issue, but their technical prowess seemed inferior.
Both guild masters were Saint Ten, but their elder was ranked higher and had even beaten Joseph.
Phantom's trump cards were the Four Elements and the Iron Dragon Slayer, whose status was roughly equivalent to an S-Class Mage.
On their side, they had Erza and Mira, as well as Laxus and Mystogan. Although Natsu wasn't an S-Class, he was unlikely to lose to any other Dragon Slayer.
Mystogan had only been away for a short time, and his whereabouts were always unpredictable. Laxus had a temperamental side, making it challenging to predict his actions upon learning of this situation.
Perhaps he would return after some taunting and help, becoming an opportunity to ease the tension. Or maybe he would fly into a rage and challenge the entire Phantom Guild? Lord Rod wanted to believe that the guild master's grandson wasn't a bad person, but he also had to consider the worst-case scenario. If Laxus ignored the situation, he would have to prepare to face an S-Class opponent.
If he estimated the combat power based on Mira's strength, it wouldn't be a good idea to fight the enemy using the same strategy as when fighting Mira.
Lord Rod's thoughts were in disarray as he subconsciously began planning based on the assumption that a battle was inevitable.
He decided to first find a place to release some soldiers, reversing the advantage in numbers before proceeding.
As the night deepened, a crescent moon hung in the sky, and it was summer. The cool breeze brought some relief as the Crab Ship sped along.
Lord Rod took a jacket to cover Mira and sprayed insect repellent on it.
Usually, he would have done this right after nightfall, but his thoughts were still somewhat muddled.
Speaking of which, they wouldn't be traveling at night without a reason.
It was the middle of the night when Mira rubbed her eyes and sat up. "It's your turn now."
"I don't think you slept at all," he said.
Mira replied seriously, "I've already slept. Even if I was pretending, it's your turn now."
"Alright then," he conceded.
Lord Rod stopped the Crab Ship and called another one to take its place, then lay down in Mira's arms as the new ship set off.
"Sleep well. I can help you," Mira said, her fingertips glowing with a pink light. Her sleep magic had improved significantly.
"No need," he refused her sleep magic and stopped her from covering his eyes with her hand.
It was like helping a dead person close their eyes.
A moment later, Mira patted Lord Rod's forehead. "Don't secretly connect with the Swift Crab's vision. Leave the vigilance to me."
She was too perceptive. Lord Rod disconnected the vision link and tried to fall asleep.
No matter what happened, he needed to be alert the next day.
...
The next morning, the sun shone brightly over Magnolia.
The Crab Ship rushed into the city, heading straight for the Fairy Tail Guild.
Despite being prepared, the scene before him made Lord Rod furious.
The once neatly arranged three-story building was now pierced by over a dozen massive iron rods, appearing dilapidated.
For a moment, Mira's grip on Lord Rod's hand caused him pain, indicating that her emotions were not as calm as her expression suggested.
Suppressing their anger, they entered the guild's basement but found it empty.
"Guild Master?"
"Erza?"
"Elfman?"
"Natsu, Gray, Cana?"
No one answered.
[Here's a timeline of the original story: On July 22nd, Erza and Natsu's team completed an S-Class mission and returned to find the guild in ruins. At that time, everyone was having lunch in the basement, even though it was noon.
That night, Erza, Gray, and Natsu went to Lucy's house to stay, actually to guard against a potential ambush. It was also on this night that Reby's team was attacked.
Then, on the morning of July 23rd, Reby and her team were found in the park, and the guild master flew into a rage, leading to a battle. All the guild members present took action.
Lucy was supposed to stay at the hospital to look after Reby, but she went to check on the guild and was attacked on her way back to the hospital or home.
Some time passed, and the Fairy Tail members arrived in Og City to fight, but it wasn't the real Phantom headquarters.
By this time, Lucy had been taken to Joseph, who used her as a hostage to draw the guild master's attention while Aria launched a surprise attack, draining the guild master's magic power.
Fairy Tail retreated, but Natsu captured someone and forced them to reveal Lucy's location. He caught Lucy as she jumped down from the tower and took her back to the guild (this part is a bit funny, as Lucy's escape was triggered by kicking Joseph in the groin).
Then comes the scene where Mira contacts Laxus, who gets angry and cries, leading to the Phantom Guild's attack.
