Chapter 33: Sowing Discord
Chapter 33: Sowing Discord
"Do you think you're the only one who can strike at vital points?" the youth on the right grumbled, his face filled with displeasure.
This guy in front of them was acting too arrogantly, as if he were the one with the upper hand.
"Of course you can. No one here is a fool; we'd definitely fight back," he said.
Jiang Cheng glanced at him.
"Then that's that."
The man held his head high and puffed out his chest, looking very pleased with himself.
"But are you sure you want to exchange injuries with me?" Jiang Cheng asked coldly. "I admit that I'm no match for all of you, but I'm confident I can beat a few of you to a pulp. I believe that, and I'm sure you know it too. So, who dares to be the first to step up?"
"Me! I..."
The man hesitated, still not daring to speak.
He was afraid that Jiang Cheng would remember him and focus on him during the fight.
"No one will go first," said the man with the slanted fringe loudly at that moment. "We'll all go together."
"That's right! We'll go together!"
"So what if we all go together? What can you do about it?"
The others chimed in, both to embolden themselves and to intimidate Jiang Cheng, hoping to discourage him from resisting.
"Is that so?"
Jiang Cheng looked at the man with the slanted fringe again and snorted. "Who are you trying to fool with those words? If I'm not mistaken, when the fight starts, you'll be the last one to charge, letting others take the risk while you reap the benefits."
As his words fell, the other men turned to look at the man with the slanted fringe.
Their eyes revealed doubt.
Indeed, Liu Yang was exactly that kind of person.
He was full of tricks, but when it came to real trouble, he was the first to run.
"Why are you all staring at me? Do you believe him or me?" Liu Yang panicked as Jiang Cheng instantly guessed his thoughts.
But with the arrow already drawn, he had no choice but to shoot. Moreover, none of the street vendors on the street seemed richer than this kid.
"Brothers, this kid has money, a lot of money!" he shouted.
The gazes of over ten thugs fell on Jiang Cheng again.
Indeed, they had seen the bustling scene at Jiang Cheng's stall during the day, and they were envious.
"Yes, I do have some money, but is this little money enough for all of you to share?"
Jiang Cheng remained calm.
"There are thirteen of you here, and I have, at most, seven or eight hundred yuan on me. How much will each of you get? Not even a hundred, right? And this guy seems to be your boss, so he'll probably take a bigger share. With that, won't each of you get even less?"
As Jiang Cheng spoke, he pointed at Liu Yang.
"He's not our boss," a muttering voice sounded.
"Don't listen to his instigation!"
Liu Yang quickly added, "We're all good brothers. Of course, we'll split the money equally. Kid, don't try to sow discord among us!"
After saying this, he glared at Jiang Cheng fiercely.
It was as if he was saying, "Now, what can you say?"
"So what if we split it equally?"
Jiang Cheng had anticipated this and, after scanning the crowd, asked a soul-stirring question, "Just for a few dozen yuan, are you willing to risk getting your bones broken? Is it worth it?"
The surroundings suddenly fell silent.
The thugs were stunned.
Indeed, it didn't seem worth it. No, it was definitely not worth it!
When Liu Yang found them, the plan was well laid out.
As long as they subdued Jiang Cheng, they would have money every day, and even if they did nothing for a month, they would still get around two thousand yuan.
Hearing this, they were naturally tempted.
But if they ended up with broken bones and disabilities for this amount of money, and even if the injury wasn't theirs but someone else's, what if it was them?
With a monthly income of two thousand yuan, he could easily go rob others as he had done before, right?
But the risk was too great.
"I've said my piece. Who's going first?"
Jiang Cheng's gaze swept over the crowd, his eyes filled with contempt.
Everyone looked at each other, and their gazes eventually landed on Liu Yang and his two companions.
After all, it was Liu Yang who instigated this whole thing, so it was only right for him to take the lead.
Liu Yang wanted to say he'd go first, but he didn't have the courage. His legs felt like they were filled with lead, and he couldn't move.
Finally, someone couldn't hold back any longer. He sighed and said to Jiang Cheng:
"Friend, today's incident was a misunderstanding. It was all because of that guy Liu Yang. We were blinded by his words. Let's make a deal. From now on, we won't bother you again. If you see us, just ignore us. Can you agree to that? If not, then there's nothing we can do."
The speaker stared at Jiang Cheng.
"That's right. If you agree, we'll stay out of each other's way. If not, we're all in this together, and it's a matter of life and death."
Several others chimed in one after another.
Clearly, they knew that they weren't a match for Jiang Cheng alone, and if they provoked him, they'd be in trouble later. That's why they made this proposal.
Jiang Cheng didn't like being threatened, but he also knew that this wasn't the time to act on impulse.
"Of course."
He agreed readily, "As long as you don't provoke me, I won't bother with your affairs."
"Good. That's all I needed to hear."
The first speaker nodded at Jiang Cheng, glanced at Liu Yang, and then turned to leave with his group.
As soon as he left, the others at the two intersections also dispersed quickly.
What was once a siege of over ten people was now reduced to just Liu Yang and his two companions.
Liu Yang was stunned.
Just a moment ago, it was thirteen against one, and the odds were in his favor.
In the blink of an eye, only his three companions remained.
The situation changed so quickly that he didn't have time to react.
The next moment, Jiang Cheng took a quick step forward.
He was naturally wary of the group of over a dozen people.
But now, with only three people in front of him, he charged forward.
Liu Yang felt a jolt, as if he had been electrocuted. He jumped up from where he stood and then took off running!
The other two had wanted to run for a while now, and seeing this, they sprinted in different directions, seemingly experienced in this.
Jiang Cheng hesitated for a moment, but decided not to pursue them.
Although he had successfully defused the crisis, he didn't feel particularly happy about it.
That guy Liu Yang was the main instigator, and yet he could only watch him escape.
Of course, he could chase after him, but he had two concerns. First, he was worried about his tricycle with over a hundred pounds of sweet potatoes; if someone took advantage of the situation and stole them, it would be a significant loss. Second, these thugs might not be strong, but they were incredibly fast. Without some secret martial arts technique, it would be challenging to catch up.
"Run. You won't get away."
Jiang Cheng sheathed his short stick.
This Liu Yang, who dared to rob him, would pay the price once he joined the Falcon Fist Gym as a premium member.
However, today's encounter reminded him that he needed to practice with the twin sticks.
Two or three thugs were no match for him.
But if there were three or five, it would be a bit more challenging, and one misstep could lead to a defeat.
With eight or ten opponents, he feared he wouldn't stand a chance.
What if they were wielding long knives?
