Chapter 33: Next Time We Meet
Chapter 33: Next Time We Meet
This is a real expert!
Everyone wanted to go up and greet him, but they felt a bit embarrassed since the person was a girl.
"Li Yang, did that Lu Liangye really awaken more than half a year ago? You must be mistaken", the Handsome Boy said doubtfully.
"It could be someone with the same name..." Li Yang wasn't sure either.
At the time, Li Yang had learned about Lu Liangye because his mother had shoved a newspaper in front of him, lamenting for days that if only Lu Liangye were her son. It took over ten days for her to calm down.
If it really were that Lu Liangye, how could he have lost so badly?
Now, thinking about it, this Lu Liangye seemed a bit taller, darker, and uglier than the one in the newspaper...
At that moment, the Lu Liangye who was being suspected of being the same person looked worriedly at the Water Ring Carp and asked, "Teacher, is my Water Ring Carp okay?"
"It's fine, it will recover soon", Qin Wen replied.
...
From Qiao Sang's perspective, the only female teacher on the field approached the Water Ring Carp and made a Seal. An Amber Star Array appeared on the ground.
This was a hallmark of a C-Class Beastmaster.
Of course, it was also possible that someone had reached the C-Class level in the Beastmaster Codex but hadn't yet passed the Alliance's examination to become an official C-Class Beastmaster.
A white Familiar, about three meters tall, appeared on the Amber Star Array.
Its head was droplet-shaped, appearing very small in proportion to its body. It had large, beady eyes, and its mouth stretched to its ears, with a tongue that was nearly half its height hanging out.
It approached the Water Ring Carp and used its thick, long tongue to lick it from head to tail.
That wasn't enough; after the first lick, it flipped the Water Ring Carp over and licked it from head to tail again.
It was quite disgusting...
Qiao Sang, who had been a bit dazed, suddenly snapped back to full alertness.
This white Familiar was called a Tongue Drip. The mucous it secreted could rapidly heal external wounds.
If one aspired to be a healer, bonding with a Tongue Drip would be an excellent choice.
After two rounds of the Tongue Drip's tongue healing, the Water Ring Carp had already stood up and was bouncing around on its tail, clearly having recovered its energy.
If it weren't for the fact that the Water Ring Carp looked like it had just been fished out of water, one wouldn't have noticed anything had happened to it.
Qiao Sang instinctively held Fangflare tighter in her arms.
"Ya?"
Fangflare turned to look at Qiao Sang.
"Nothing, I'm just relieved you didn't get hurt", Qiao Sang said.
"Ya~"
Fangflare's wet eyes shone with gratitude.
"During the next battle, you mustn't get hurt", Qiao Sang warned seriously.
"Ya!"
Fangflare nodded in agreement.
Her Beastmaster was so worried about her; she wouldn't let her down!
Seeing Fangflare's moved expression, Qiao Sang held back her last words.
"If it gets hurt, I won't hug it for a while..."
...
The ten people were divided into five pairs for the matches, with four more rounds to go.
Qiao Sang looked at the field, knowing that any of the remaining participants could be her next opponent. She needed to pay close attention.
Although she had great confidence in Fangflare, underestimating the opponent was a cardinal sin. That's why she had Fangflare put on the Sunglasses as soon as they entered the arena.
The second pair was two boys, both of whom had already summoned their Familiars.
A Shorttail Snake and a Sandgopher, both typical choices for new Beastmasters.
"Big shot, who do you think will win?" a girl's voice sounded from her left.
Qiao Sang turned her head to see that the empty seat next to her was now occupied by the Bob-Cut Girl who had spoken to her before the match.
"Unless something unexpected happens, it should be the Shorttail Snake", Qiao Sang replied.
"Big Shot, are you talking about something like this when you mention an upset?" Zheng Yining teased.
The Shorttail Snake naturally had the upper hand over the Sandgopher, just like the Water Ring Carp had the edge over the Fangflare. Yet, the Fangflare won, and it was a crushing victory. Wasn't that an upset?
"My name is Qiao Sang", Qiao Sang introduced himself, hoping she would use a different title.
"Got it, Big Shot Qiao." Zheng Yining nodded.
Qiao Sang: "..."
"Big Shot Qiao, I'm Zheng Yining", Zheng Yining continued.
Qiao Sang: "...Hmm."
The match results didn't have any surprises, just as Qiao Sang had predicted.
The moment the Sandgopher emerged from its burrow, the Shorttail Snake's fangs accurately bit into its body, rendering it unconscious.
The third match was between Zheng Yining and a boy.
Zheng Yining's familiar was a Long-Eared Cat.
Its back and tail were a pale pink, with a milky white belly. Its ears, longer than those of a regular rabbit, stood up like two antennae, and its emerald green eyes were lazily half-closed, almost melting Qiao Sang's limited girlish heart.
The boy's familiar was a Sky Boar, with a grayish-white body and a pair of similarly colored wings. It was a familiar with both Ground and Flying attributes.
"Fangflare, who do you think will win?" Qiao Sang asked.
Fangflare, who had been watching the match with a relaxed demeanor, became serious upon hearing the question and carefully observed the two familiars already engaged in battle.
After comparing them, it chose the Sky Boar, which looked larger and could fly.
Sixteen minutes later, the Sky Boar collapsed.
"Fang."
Fangflare let out a dejected call.
It had made the wrong choice.
"Although the Sky Boar looked stronger, it had a clear weakness—poor stamina. Its speed was also slow. As long as you wore it down, it would eventually run out of energy. The Long-Eared Cat chose to dodge its attacks at first, then attacked once the Sky Boar was exhausted", Qiao Sang explained to Fangflare.
"Fang."
Fangflare's eyes widened as it listened.
So that was it!
The fourth and fifth matches were won by two boys, with familiars being a Puffbird and a Tracking Bee, respectively.
Qiao Sang recalled the matches she had just seen and considered the potential opponents she might face next.
Indeed... no real threat...
Qiao Sang quickly shook her head, realizing her thoughts.
She had just promised herself not to underestimate her opponents...
Among the five who lost, one more person needed to be eliminated.
The matches didn't last as long as Qiao Sang had expected, and the five-way elimination was basically a one-sided affair.
The winner was Lu Liangye.
Now, Li Yang no longer doubted that this Lu Liangye was the same one his mother had mentioned.
His coordination and techniques completely outclassed the other four, and there was no trace of the one-sided beating he had received in the first match.
It seems the problem was with that girl...
Li Yang glanced at the girl walking leisurely by, silently praying.
Just don't let me face her first!
As soon as Qiao Sang entered the arena, Lu Liangye approached and declared, "Next time we meet, I won't lose!"
Qiao Sang responded with a cooperative tone, "I hope so."
Lu Liangye: "..."
He felt she was looking down on him, but he had no proof.
They drew lots again, as they had with the previous ten participants, with those who drew the same number forming a team.
Qiao Sang drew her lot and saw she had number 1.
A good number.
Lucky.
"Who has number 1?" Qin Wen asked.
"Me", Lu Liangye said.
"Me too", Qiao Sang added.
Everyone turned to look.
Lu Liangye: "...!"
He had said next time, but it didn't have to be this soon!
