Chapter 33: Asuma's Determination
Chapter 33: Asuma's Determination
"Teacher Mu Yue, when will we start training in nature transformation? I've been reading the handbook you gave me every night, and I'm eager to put it into practice." Deidara asked as he paced back and forth on a small river.
Climbing trees and treading water had become monotonous.
Moreover, Mu Yue's handbook on nature transformation had inspired him, and he suddenly felt that he was making progress with his fire release jutsu.
"Do you find treading water boring? Have you mastered it already?" Mu Yue asked with a smile.
"Yeah." Deidara nodded quickly; he could already run on water.
"In that case, I'll test your skills and make treading water a little more interesting." Mu Yue swiftly performed a series of hand seals, and her chakra surged.
"Water Style: Water Dragon Bullet Technique!"
A massive water dragon formed and began to tumble in the small river, turning the calm surface into a raging torrent that occasionally sent waves crashing.
"Ugh..." Deidara lost his balance and fell headfirst into the water, gulping down a mouthful of water.
Mu Yue instantly pulled him out and laughed, "You see, you haven't perfected it yet."
"Teacher Mu Yue, how was I supposed to handle that sudden attack?" Deidara complained.
There was a classmate and a clan junior present; he still had his pride.
"Why don't you try again?" Mu Yue smiled.
Treading water was a true test of a ninja's ability to maintain chakra output. With the water dragon bullet as a distraction and the need to dodge the splashing waves, one had to be able to sustain a stable and consistent chakra output.
Deidara was all talk and no action; he didn't last more than a few minutes before falling into the water again.
"The shoes I'm wearing today are uncomfortable, affecting my performance." Deidara spat out the river water and explained, then took off his shoes and walked barefoot on the water's surface.
Mu Yue smiled but remained silent.
After a while, Deidara fell into the water once more.
"Oh dear, I must have stayed up too late reading last night, which is why I'm lacking in energy today. No wonder I made so many mistakes."
Deidara stretched his limbs, twisted his neck, rolled up his sleeves, and said with a serious expression, "Now it's time to get serious."
Splash!
The sound of falling into the water rang out again.
Mu Yue quickly pulled Deidara out, but he stood there, his eyes vacant and his face expressionless.
"Don't worry, Deidara. I know you're doing this because you want to learn how to swim," Itachi reassured him.
Deidara covered his face with his hands and said, "Itachi, you do your thing. I just need a moment alone."
"Do you feel like your performance was too poor?" Mu Yue squatted next to Deidara, not looking at him but gazing into the distance.
As the saying goes, there's no harm without comparison.
While Deidara had not yet begun his training in ability control, Itachi had already started.
Furthermore, Itachi's progress was astonishing. He had skipped right past tree-climbing and found water-treading easy. Even with Mu Yue's interference, he could stay afloat for extended periods.
Deidara's clan junior, Itachi, had set the bar high, which was why Deidara kept up his tough talk. He admitted that he might not be as good as Itachi, but he shouldn't be this far behind.
"Actually, last weekend, I left early because I was tutoring the Hokage's son at his residence." Mu Yue explained.
"The Hokage has a young son, whom you may know—Asuma Sarutobi. He's just one grade above you."
Deidara nodded; he was familiar with him.
"When I was teaching him how to tread water, I also used the water dragon bullet jutsu to distract him. He fell into the water dozens of times that afternoon, but on his last try, he managed to stay afloat for five minutes."
"Teacher, I understand now. I'm well-rested, so let's begin the training!" Obito took a deep breath and said enthusiastically.
If Asuma could persevere, so could he. After all, his goal was to defeat Kakashi and become the best in front of Rin!
"Have something to eat before we start training again." Mu Yue handed Obito a steamed red bean bun that she had bought earlier.
"Thanks, Teacher!" Obito exclaimed energetically before quickly devouring the bun and stepping into the river.
[You gave your disciple a red bean bun, and because he was so grateful, you received a critical hit reward: the Chef skill.]
[Chef: Your cooking skills are so extraordinary that your dishes can induce hallucinations.]
"Huh? I actually got a skill, and it's a lifestyle one too." Mu Yue was a little surprised.
While it was true that the Teacher System occasionally rewarded her with random skills when she taught her students, like when Might Guy unlocked the Water Nature Transformation Proficiency, she didn't expect Obito to unlock the Chef skill. It didn't quite make sense to her.
Nevertheless, Mu Yue was delighted because, based on the skill description, it seemed incredibly powerful.
Cooking delicious meals was definitely a huge bonus.
If only he had acquired this skill earlier, he could have pretended that his home appliances were broken and then gone to the Namikaze household to cook. With his exceptional culinary skills, perhaps Kushina and Minato would have taken the initiative to become his friends.
He could also quickly increase his disciples' affection levels. Who wouldn't adore a teacher who not only provides top-notch instruction but also cooks to perfection?
After all her disciples had finished their training for the day, Mu Yue returned early to the main district of Konoha. She wanted to test out her new skill and see just how delicious the dishes she could create would be.
Mu Yue decided to make two dishes: fried rice with eggs and tempura.
She often made fried rice with eggs herself, as she had a preference for dishes with eggs in them. However, she had never tried making tempura before.
From the moment Mu Yue picked up the eggs, she felt a mysterious aura envelop her. Although the steps were mostly the same as before, everything just felt right and fell into place perfectly.
When she finished frying the rice, she gazed at the golden grains of rice, shimmering with a subtle glow, and she was momentarily lost for words.
She hadn't added any fluorescent powder, so she wondered why it seemed to be glowing.
Mu Yue took a spoonful and tasted it. The tenderness of the eggs, the elasticity of the rice, and the fragrance of the scallions exploded in her mouth. She had never tasted such delicious fried rice before.
Mu Yue even faintly saw a robust rooster running and flying freely in a grassy field, exuding a sense of liberty and unadulterated joy.
"It really does induce hallucinations." Mu Yue shook her head to clear her thoughts and quickly regained her composure.
Mu Yue switched to a flat-bottomed pan and began preparing to fry the tempura.
She first made the batter, then heated the oil in the pan. She dipped the pre-prepared shrimp into the batter and carefully placed them into the hot oil.
Soon, the batter on the tempura started to change color, and a unique, mouthwatering aroma filled the kitchen, wafting far and wide.
Trusting her instincts, Mu Yue skillfully removed the tempura from the oil and placed them on a plate, which she then brought to the table.
Just as Mu Yue was about to taste a piece of tempura, there was a knock on the door.
