Chapter 33: An Unexpected Twist at the Sorting Ceremony
Chapter 33: An Unexpected Twist at the Sorting Ceremony
"Hufflepuff!"
The Sorting Hat barely touched the head of the young girl named Hannah before quickly announcing her house.
At the far-right table, the young wizards immediately stood up, clapping and cheering to welcome Hannah into Hufflepuff.
"Susan Bones! Hufflepuff!"
"Terry Boot! Ravenclaw!"
"Hermione Granger!"
After the Sorting Hat assigned about seven or eight young wizards to their houses, Hermione's name was finally called.
"Go for it!"
Encouraged by Jerry's cheer, Hermione ran up to the podium.
"Gryffindor!"
The Sorting Hat hesitated for a moment, as if sensing something, but ultimately declared Gryffindor. Hermione happily ran to the far-left table, where the Gryffindors were clapping and laughing in welcome.
"Jerry Carmen!"
Just as Hermione finished her sorting, Professor Mcgonagall called Jerry's name.
Straightening his wizard robe, Jerry walked at a steady pace to the podium and placed the Sorting Hat on his head.
"I want to be in—"
Jerry was about to request Gryffindor, just like Harry did in the movies, but the moment the hat touched his hair, it immediately announced:
"Slytherin!"
"Slytherin? What the heck!"
Jerry's heart was filled with a thousand galloping horses as he realized that all his carefully laid plans were shattered in an instant.
Stiffly removing the Sorting Hat, he saw Professor Mcgonagall's disappointed expression and reluctantly made his way to the second table from the right, the Slytherin table.
At the Gryffindor table, Hermione's face fell when she saw Jerry being sorted into Slytherin. She had really hoped they would both be in Gryffindor, but fate had other plans. This rare friend who she got along with so well was now in Slytherin.
Despite her disappointment, she forced a smile and waved at Jerry. She knew he had wanted to be in Gryffindor and was likely just as upset as she was, as evident from his stiff expression.
"How could Jerry be in Slytherin? Every bad wizard comes from Slytherin!"
In the queue, Ron, who had yet to be sorted, turned to Harry in disbelief.
"Jerry isn't a bad person. Don't forget, he helped us deal with that Malfoy guy on the train!"
Although Harry's impression of Slytherin was tainted by Ron's influence, he was still grateful for Jerry's help on the train. Even though Jerry was sorted into Slytherin, Harry didn't believe he was a bad person.
"Oh, I know. I don't think Jerry is a bad person. I just think the Sorting Hat made a mistake. Jerry should have been in Gryffindor!"
Ron shrugged.
At that moment, Draco Malfoy was also sorted into Slytherin by the Sorting Hat.
Harry couldn't help but nod at the sight. Slytherin was indeed where someone like Malfoy belonged.
"Why Slytherin? This doesn't make any sense!"
Jerry, seated at the Slytherin table, had no interest in watching the sorting ceremony. Instead, he furrowed his brow, pondering why the Sorting Hat had immediately placed him in Slytherin.
Recalling all the things he had heard about Slytherin, he gradually began to understand.
The most basic requirement for entering Slytherin was being either a pure-blood or a half-blood, meaning both parents had to be wizards or at least one parent had to be a wizard.
Wizards with muggle parents, like Hermione, no matter how talented, would never be sorted into Slytherin.
Now, who were Jerry's parents in this world?
They didn't exist. His body was a strange Panel brought from the Marvel Main World, and his wizard bloodline was exchanged for with Little Red Stars.
So, Jerry speculated that the wizard bloodline he had exchanged for with Little Red Stars might be the purest and most ancient of all.
After all, if the Strange Panel could bring him from the Marvel world to the Harry Potter world, it wouldn't make sense for the wizard bloodline he exchanged for to be anything but the purest.
Not that half-bloods were inferior, but he believed that a pure-blood wizard bloodline had a higher growth potential, such as having more magical power compared to their peers.
The most powerful wizards, like Dumbledore and Grindelwald, seemed to be pure-bloods.
Of course, true power primarily depended on one's understanding and use of magic, and the slight advantage in magical power wasn't everything.
Voldemort, Snape, and Professor Mcgonagall were all half-bloods, yet they were incredibly powerful, especially Voldemort, who was second only to Dumbledore and Grindelwald.
Hermione, for instance, could also be considered a half-blood, just with a lower concentration.
Jerry believed that any wizard born to muggle parents must have had a wizard ancestor somewhere in their family line, even if the wizard bloodline had not awakened in later generations.
From a personality standpoint, the traits associated with Slytherin wizards, as perceived by others, were arrogance, ambition, cunning, and a love for power and influence.
Jerry didn't think these traits fit him at all.
However, upon further reflection, he realized that such a portrayal of Slytherin was too one-sided.
Perhaps a comment he had once seen online about Slytherin was more fitting for his current situation.
The comment mentioned that the character who best represented Slytherin was Professor Slughorn, who appeared in sixth year.
Slughorn pursued fame and fortune, enjoyed having famous students, but never actively harmed others. He formed the Slug Club to benefit from the talents of exceptional students, creating a mutually beneficial and win-win situation.
He supported the concept of blood purity but wasn't a blind follower. He greatly admired muggle-borns like Hermione and Harry's mother, Lily.
He was very intelligent, knew how to navigate situations to protect his interests, but also had his principles. During the final battle, he stood firmly with Hogwarts, despite being a Slytherin.
So, Slytherin might be described as principled self-seekers, individuals who wouldn't actively harm others for their own gain.
If viewed this way, it seemed to align somewhat with his own reborn self.
The pure-blood heritage, combined with his true inner character and his current goal-oriented actions—could these be the reasons the Sorting Hat placed him in Slytherin?
