Chapter 329: Were You a Death Eater Before?
Chapter 329: Were You a Death Eater Before?
If it weren't for this time travel, Ivan couldn't have predicted whether even worse things would have happened.
Thinking about this, Ivan recalled the cause and effect of the attack and spoke apologetically.
"Sorry, Mom."
"What's wrong?" Aisha was taken aback, her expression filled with concern as she asked.
"Those Death Eaters are likely the ones who slipped through the Ministry of Magic's net last year when they cracked down on Dark Magic items. If it weren't for me creating the Protective Rings and Anti-Curse Gloves, you wouldn't have cooperated with the Ministry, and you wouldn't have provoked them."
Ivan was deeply regretful. He felt that by coming to this world and replacing Aisha's child, he had not only failed to bring her any benefits but had also put her in mortal danger. In his memory, Aisha and her son had lived a peaceful life in Knockturn Alley for over a decade.
Just as he was thinking this, Ivan's head suddenly ached as someone flicked his forehead with a finger. He looked up innocently to see Aisha looking at him with a wry smile.
"Why would you think that? Just because we might offend them, we shouldn't earn Galleons anymore? Earning money here always comes with risks", Aisha ruffled Ivan's hair, laughing a bit as she continued. "Do you think how we made our business before?"
The magical world is small, and the market for Dark Magic items is even smaller. Dealing with dangerous people and doing this kind of business, it's impossible not to offend someone.
When she first opened her Dark Magic Shop here, she faced pressure from various factions, especially from the owner of Borgin and Burkes, who constantly caused her trouble.
Fortunately, she was strong enough to withstand their continuous probing. And due to some reasons, she met Dugdale, which helped her stabilize her business in Knockturn Alley.
Therefore, Aisha had no intention of blaming Ivan. She only regretted not noticing these people's movements earlier.
"So don't overthink it. Without the Protective Rings you made, the shop might have had to close during last year's inspection of Dark Magic items, and we would have had to endure a hard time", Aisha noticed Ivan's self-reproach and teased him.
It's not that bad, Ivan thought, pursing his lips. He remembered how Aisha had spent hundreds of Galleons to have Dugdale arrange a Dementor for him to practice the Expecto Patronum spell.
Aisha extended her hand and hugged Ivan, whispering in his ear, "You've done enough, and you've done well! I'm proud of you!"
"If it weren't for your friend telling me that you handled those Death Eaters all by yourself, I wouldn't have believed such an incredible story."
Ivan's guilt lessened somewhat, and he then noticed Hermione standing to the side, watching them silently.
Ivan gently pulled away from Aisha's embrace and turned to Hermione, speaking up.
"Mom, let me introduce you to Hermione Granger! One of my best friends at Hogwarts and the smartest and most outstanding student in our year! I couldn't have done all this without her help."
"Hermione Granger? That's a great name. I lost control a bit just now; I hope I didn't scare you", Aisha shifted her gaze from Ivan to Hermione, speaking gently.
"Not at all, Mrs. Hales! I understand you were worried about Ivan", Hermione shook her head quickly, then added shyly, "Actually, I didn't help much."
"Regardless, I'm grateful that you were willing to accompany Ivan on such a dangerous mission", Aisha said appreciatively.
"We are friends, it’s what I should do." Hermione subconsciously glanced at Ivan and spoke.
Noticing Hermione’s gaze, Aisha’s face lit up with a teasing smile, her purple eyes gleaming with an indescribable light. She spoke half-jokingly, "Friends? Is that all there is between you two? Nothing more special?"
Hermione’s cheeks flushed red, and she was about to protest, but under Aisha’s gaze, she found herself unable to speak, not knowing where to place her hands.
Ivan rolled his eyes and was about to say something when a voice suddenly rang out.
"What’s going on? Why am I here? Is it raining?"
All three turned to look, and Dugdale sat up, looking bewildered. His clothes were drenched from the rain, and a strong smell of alcohol emanated from him.
He clearly remembered drinking in the living room of his mansion, so how did he end up here?
This inexplicable state of confusion lasted for a moment before Dugdale quickly noticed Aisha and the others standing by, watching him.
Dugdale’s expression changed, and he hurriedly rummaged through his robes, pulling out a Wand and tapping his robes.
"Scourgify!"
Under the effect of the spell, the stains and rainwater on his robes were instantly removed, and he looked much more alert.
At this point, Dugdale slowly stood up, cleared his throat, and asked curiously, "Why are you all here? Did I miss something important?"
"You tell him!" Aisha said, looking at Ivan.
Ivan nodded and began to explain. "Headmaster Dugdale, a group of Death Eaters attacked the magic shop earlier."
"What?" Before Ivan could finish, Dugdale frowned, immediately realizing the severity of the situation.
He inwardly regretted drinking so much.
If he hadn’t, his house wasn’t far from the shop, and he would have noticed something was wrong and rushed over to help.
"Are you and Aisha okay?" Dugdale looked at Ivan and Aisha with concern, visibly relieved when he saw they were unharmed. Then, he said angrily, "Do you know who those attackers were? Where are they now?"
"Those Death Eaters are all dead. The one who ordered them was likely the owner of Borgin and Burkes", Ivan said honestly.
Hearing that the attackers had been completely wiped out, Dugdale wasn’t surprised. He knew the capabilities of Aisha and Ivan, and the shop was their territory, so dealing with a few Dark Wizards was normal.
However, upon learning the identity of the mastermind, Dugdale angrily cursed. "It’s him? I always knew that old man had ulterior motives."
Ivan silently observed Dugdale’s reaction, which didn’t seem to be feigned.
However, Ivan couldn’t be certain of his judgment. There was something he needed to clarify before allowing Dugdale to be involved in what was to come.
With this in mind, Ivan subtly gripped his Wand and suddenly asked, "By the way, Headmaster Dugdale, were you a Death Eater in the past?"
