Chapter 329: Natural Energy and the Enlarged Olivine
Chapter 329: Natural Energy and the Enlarged Olivine
On the 8th of March, League Year 199, Naoki successfully arrived in the Padia Region.
Soon after his arrival, Mayor Thomas paid a visit to the ranch.
Without even having the chance to greet his Pokemon, Naoki hurriedly welcomed Mayor Thomas into the living room.
The elderly man with a cane sat down on the sofa and kindly asked, "How did the exchange go? I heard that the tourism industry in Beijiang Township is quite developed, attracting many visitors every year!"
Hearing this, Naoki couldn't help but feel exasperated.
He shook his head and sighed, "Zhiqin Village is definitely better!"
"Oh?" Mayor Thomas was surprised. "Did something happen there?"
Naoki nodded and briefly recounted his experiences in Beijiang Township, including the story of Trevenant and the Three Companions, and the town mayor's plan to develop tourism based on the legend.
After hearing everything, Mayor Thomas looked astonished and murmured, "How could this happen...?"
"But thankfully, I brought Trevenant back, and it won't have to go through that again," Naoki said as he took out Trevenant's Poke Ball.
With a flash of white light, Trevenant appeared in the living room.
Seeing the unfamiliar surroundings and a stranger, Trevenant became flustered and quickly covered its face with its small hands.
"Don't be afraid. This is Mayor Thomas. He won't dislike you," Naoki reassured.
"Poni...?" Trevenant slowly lifted its head and looked at the kind elderly man before it.
Mayor Thomas smiled and nodded at it, offering comfort. "Relax, child. No one here will harm you. You're welcome to visit the town anytime, and I'm sure everyone will grow fond of you."
"Poni?" Trevenant had never experienced such warmth or been welcomed by anyone before.
Its first reaction to these words was disbelief. Could it be true?
Naoki nodded, reassuring it. "Of course, it's true. Just like in Beijiang Township, there will be a lively celebration here in Zhiqin Village, too. We can all go together and have fun!"
"Poni!" Trevenant's face lit up with anticipation.
Seeing the Pokemon's reaction, Mayor Thomas sighed softly, "Poor child."
Naoki took the four masks that Trevenant had been wearing and asked, "Trevenant, do you want to continue wearing these masks?"
He understood that Trevenant wore the masks to hide its true appearance and fit in with the villagers of Beijiang Township.
But here in Zhiqin Village, everyone loved Pokemon, and Trevenant was adorable. He was certain that no one would dislike it.
In this situation, there was no need for it to hide behind the masks anymore.
Naoki shared his thoughts with Trevenant, who looked down at the masks in its hands and then at Mayor Thomas. Finally, it jumped with joy and exclaimed, "Poni!"
Naoki smiled and said, "Then I'll keep these four masks safe for you."
"Poni~"
Mayor Thomas had some town affairs to attend to, so after checking in on Naoki, he left the ranch.
Finally, Naoki had the opportunity to release all his Pokemon.
He called over Delibird and Glaceon and introduced them to Trevenant.
However, introductions were hardly necessary as Delibird and Glaceon had been eavesdropping from behind the sofa the entire time.
Delibird, feeling a deep sense of empathy for the unfortunate Pokemon, was on the verge of tears.
Glaceon, standing by its side, felt indignant on Trevenant's behalf.
Trevenant stood there, looking at the Pokemon before it, and softly said, "Poni~"
Naoki laughed and patted Glaceon and Delibird's heads affectionately. "Then, I'll leave Trevenant in your care! I still have some matters to attend to in town."
Delibird immediately nodded in agreement and took Trevenant to explore the ranch.
As the Pokemon left, Mega Gardevoir returned Rapidash to the stable and then used Teleport to gracefully appear in the living room, where she sat on the sofa and continued watching TV.
Dragonite rushed out to water the fields, proud that the other Dragonite workers must have been helping with the watering in its absence.
Meanwhile, Vibrava flew out, but no one knew where it went.
Only Golett and Geodude remained in the living room, looking down at the slow-moving Magby on the floor.
Naoki fed the Berry to Magby and couldn't help but chuckle at its dopey expression.
"You can stay here for now! I'll go into town later to find someone to help build a nest for you."
"Baboo!"
Babiri Popplo sat in front of the fireplace, happily watching Magby inside.
With this arrangement, they would all have a warm and cozy home, even Magby!
"I'll play with Magby for a while. I need to go out for a bit," Naoki said to Babiri Popplo.
"Baboo!" Babiri Popplo replied without turning his head, his attention fully on Magby as he babbled away, though no one knew what he was saying.
Naoki didn't pay much mind to it and, after reminding his sister, Ai Guan Shi, he turned and left the ranch, riding Golurk to Cleary's cottage in the forest.
Cleary was chopping wood by the door and seemed surprised to see Naoki, "What a rare visitor!"
Naoki: "..."
"What are you planning to buy today?" Cleary asked as she paused her work.
Naoki cut straight to the point, "Do you have those pipes that Magby can live in?"
"Heating pipes?" Cleary immediately understood what he meant.
Naoki nodded vigorously, "Yes, that's the one!"
"Looks like you've caught yourself a Magby," Cleary observed.
Cleary put down her axe and, as she took off her gloves, she walked into the cottage, "I do have those. Let me get the blueprints from when I built your house... Hmm... Are you planning to build a complete heating system for Magby in just the living room, or do you want to cover the entire house?"
"The entire house!" Naoki replied without hesitation.
This way, Magby would have more space to move around.
Upon hearing this, Cleary looked at the house blueprints and said, "In that case, some areas will need to be rebuilt, and the price will be higher. Oh, right, I remember you only have a fireplace in the living room, right?"
"Yes," Naoki thought that the price wouldn't be an issue since the ranch's income was very stable. Everything from the life milk to the eggs was selling for a good price.
"That's fine then," Cleary took out a pen and made some modifications to the blueprints before concluding, "The price will depend on the specific materials used and the construction process. I'm helping Elif dig a new wine cellar in his orchard today, so I might only be able to come by tomorrow."
"It's fine, I'm not in a rush," Naoki assured her.
Cleary smiled faintly, "Then let's leave it at that for now. I'll come by after I'm done with my work here."
"Okay."
After bidding farewell to Cleary, Naoki went to Ziqin Market, where he bought a batch of fresh ingredients before heading back to the ranch.
But just as he returned, he found a group of Pokemon surrounding a strange Pokemon that was unusually large, almost as tall as a tree.
Naoki was taken aback by this sight.
The group of Pokemon turned their heads at the sound of his approach.
Soon after, the tree-like Pokemon also raised its head to look in his direction.
It was a tall Pokemon, cloaked in green leaves that formed a coat, with a brown skirt-like covering on its lower body.
The high collar of its leafy coat concealed its neck, but from its familiar gaze, Naoki instantly recognized the Pokemon.
It was an Oranguru!
No, wait! It should be called Perore now!
Naoki was delighted and, setting down his things, he walked forward, looking up at the towering Perore.
Perore gazed at him with gentle eyes.
After evolving, Perore seemed more mature. The naivete and innocence of its former self as an Oranguru had faded, and now it exuded an air of reliability.
"You evolved?" Naoki asked.
Perore nodded slightly.
Naoki took a deep breath and happily said, "That's wonderful! Congratulations, Perore."
The two, human and Pokemon, shared a look, their long history of living together needing no words to convey their mutual understanding.
At that moment, Alcremie raised her head to look at Perore, who had grown so tall and imposing.
As a companion who had come to the ranch together with Perore, Alcremie was genuinely happy for it, but she couldn't help feeling a twinge of envy as well.
"Mama..." she thought longingly, wishing she could evolve too.
As if sensing Alcremie's emotions, Perore extended its arm and lifted Alcremie, placing her on top of its own head.
"Mama!"
Alcremie let out a surprised cry.
Witnessing this scene, Naoki felt a surge of emotions.
He remembered how Perore had been when it first arrived at the ranch.
It was common knowledge that the concentration of natural energy near the World Tree far surpassed that of other places. That was why the Riding Goats and Orivine often lounged there.
After all, natural energy was incredibly beneficial. If there was enough of it, it could even trigger a dispute between the legendary Terra God, Grodudo, and the Ocean God, Geocach.
"So, it must be the natural energy that caused Olivine's size to change," Naoki concluded in his mind.
If this were a scenario in the game 'Arceus', the current Olivine would undoubtedly be a formidable "Boss Pokemon."
Nevertheless, this was a positive development.
Watching Olivine entertaining Alcremie, and seeing the delighted expression on Eguipu's face, a smile appeared on Naoki's face.
"It seems that Eguipu is getting along well with everyone on the ranch," Naoki thought to himself.
The only pity was that aside from Grass-type Pokemon, the natural energy didn't seem to attract the other Pokemon on the ranch.
Babiri had evolved into Papluor, Mini into Olivine, Caterpie into Butterfree, and Diglett into Dugtrio...
Among the Pokemon that had first arrived at the ranch, only the Lickitung brothers hadn't evolved yet.
With this thought, Naoki turned his head to look at the five Lickitung surrounding the gigantic Olivine, a puzzled expression on his face.
Logically, he had been diligently cultivating the Lickitungs, providing them with daily nutritional meals and training. They should have evolved by now! But why hadn't they?
Naoki bade farewell to the group of Pokemon and returned to the living room, where he and his sister, Ai Guan Shi, began preparing lunch.
As he handled the ingredients, his mind started to ponder.
It was common knowledge that there were three reasons why Pokemon didn't evolve.
The first was that their bodies hadn't met the requirements for evolution.
The second was that the Pokemon wished to maintain their current form and thus resisted evolving, using Endure to suppress the feeling of evolution.
And the third was that the Pokemon was wearing an Everstone.
So, which of these reasons applied to the Lickitungs?
Naoki was unsure, but he decided to investigate thoroughly after lunch.
To welcome the arrival of Eguipu and Magmagat, Naoki's family prepared a sumptuous lunch that day.
There were various meat dishes for the meat-eating Pokemon, vegetable dishes for the Grass-type Pokemon, sandwiches, and desserts for after the meal.
Once everything was ready, Naoki went out to call the group of Pokemon back for lunch.
However, just as he reached the door, he spotted a Pidgeot with a pouch around its neck descending from the sky.
Naoki: "..."
As he had expected, Pidgeot had indeed become a member of the Adventure Team's transport squad.
Bear Cub and Mew had sent another postcard.
Naoki quickly approached and, at Pidgeot's gesture, reached into the pouch to retrieve its contents.
Soon, he pulled out a photo and a Poke Ball.
Seeing these two items, Naoki understood.
Oh, Bear Cub and Mew had made another new friend!
"I wonder which Pokemon it is this time," he wondered curiously.
Just as Naoki was about to examine the photo and Poke Ball, a slightly excited cry of surprise came from behind him.
"That Pokemon... Could it be the legendary Pidgeot? Wow! This is like a Mama Magikarp jumping the Dragon Gate! It's so shocking! No wonder you're a trainer acknowledged by the principal!"
Naoki turned around and saw a girl with a tiny Magnemite hair ornament, her head adorned with blue and pink hair, standing at a distance, her eyes fixed on the Pidgeot with the red pouch.
Naoki was slightly taken aback.
Was that Kishu?
