Chapter 327: Is This Fate?
Chapter 327: Is This Fate?
Hearing the footsteps outside the door come to a halt, Ivan's heart raced up to his throat. He gritted his teeth, waved his Wand, and cast a Stunning Spell on the drunken Dugdale, then pulled a hair from his sparse head.
After doing this, Ivan lowered his voice and said to Hermione:
"You take them and go! Hurry! I'll buy us some time!"
"Where should I take them? How should I take them?" Hermione said in a panic, at a loss.
Knock knock knock
At the same time, a knocking sound came from the door. Ivan's expression changed; he knew his past self had no patience.
"Use magic! Go through the window! Just get out of this house!" Ivan said this, then added Dugdale's hair to the Polyjuice Potion and took a small sip.
He only needed to transform into Dugdale for a short while.
As Ivan walked, his form began to change. By the time he reached the door, he had completely transformed into Dugdale's appearance. His clothes, under his Transfiguration, became larger and barely fit him.
He opened the door, and as Ivan had expected, a Blond Young Wizard stood outside, his face filled with anxiety.
Ivan hesitated about whether he should say something to break the ice, but he couldn't remember if the Dugdale he had seen at this moment had said anything. He wasn't even sure what expression he should have on his face.
Sadness? Sympathy? He didn't recall seeing such expressions on Dugdale's face at the time.
Ivan could only stiffly maintain a blank expression, silently waiting for the other person to speak first.
"Headmaster Dugdale, can my mother still be saved?" The Blond Young Wizard urgently stepped aside, revealing Aisha, who was floating motionless in the air, her face pale.
Ivan shifted his gaze to her. He naturally understood what had happened to this body, but what should he say now?
"She's already dead!" Ivan racked his brain but couldn't recall anything, so he gritted his teeth and said something obvious.
"I'm asking if she can still be saved!" The young wizard in front of him didn't contradict him but instead raised his voice with impatience, his black eyes filled with despair and a glimmer of hope.
Ivan saw this and felt a lump in his throat. Was his past self like this too?
He gave the young wizard in front of him a deep look and softly reminded him:
"No one can save a dead person!"
Unless she isn't really dead.
Ivan silently swallowed the second half of his sentence, not wanting to alter history too much.
The scene fell silent. The Blond Young Wizard pursed his lips, and his right hand, at some point, had already gripped his Wand.
Ivan's expression hardened as he keenly sensed the other's suspicion.
Indeed, his disguised Dugdale was very different from the usual Dugdale.
Bang~
At that moment, a light sound came from upstairs.
"What was that?" The Blond Young Wizard stared at him intensely, almost instantly casting a protective shield on himself.
Ivan knew that it must have been Hermione making a noise, perhaps she had already taken Aisha and Dugdale out through the window.
But he couldn't say that directly, so Ivan fabricated an excuse on the spot.
"Maybe it was a cat? Who knows?"
"I don't remember you owning one of those", the Blond Young Wizard persisted, his vigilance reaching its peak. He suspected that the Dugdale in front of him wasn't the real one.
Ivan remained silent, not knowing how to respond. He could only try to recall his memories, thinking about how Dugdale had handled the situation back then.
At this moment, the Blond Young Wizard's gaze fell on Ivan's left hand, which was holding the doorknob. He shivered and said, word by word, "The Dark Mark, you're a Death Eater?!"
Ivan quickly looked down at his left wrist, where a Dark Mark had indeed appeared.
Since the clothes he was wearing were hastily transfigured, unlike Dugdale's odd robe with one long and one short sleeve, they couldn't conceal the mark.
So that's why I saw it back then, Ivan realized.
"Does she know you're a Death Eater?" The Blond Young Wizard had already pieced together the story in his mind during this brief pause. He stared at Ivan, his eyes cold and fierce.
Faced with this question, Ivan was momentarily at a loss for words. How could he know if Aisha was aware of Dugdale's identity as a Death Eater? He hadn't even had the chance to ask.
"Perhaps not", Ivan answered honestly, thinking that Aisha probably didn't know.
Ivan's words were like a spark to a powder keg. The Blond Young Wizard's anger reached its peak, and his eyes turned a faint orange-yellow, with vertical pupils.
Staring into those eyes, Ivan felt a chill but remained unaffected.
However, realizing that his past self had intended to attack him, Ivan found it absurd and even a bit amusing. He advised, "I suggest you don't waste your time on me. You'd be better off thinking about what you've done."
"It would be the same if I get it from you!" The Blond Young Wizard mistook Ivan's slight smile for mockery and became even more convinced that the person in front of him knew something. With a wave of his Wand, wisps of white mist appeared and then instantly dissipated.
Ivan had no intention of fighting his past self; it would be meaningless.
Moreover, his magic was already significantly depleted, and he couldn't be sure who would win. So, taking advantage of the moment, Ivan quickly shut the door and put on his Invisibility Cloak.
Boom!
The next moment, an explosion sounded, and the door was blasted open.
Ivan, wearing the Invisibility Cloak, stepped aside and watched as the Blond Young Wizard entered the house with a dark expression.
Ivan calmly walked out of the house, listening to the continuous explosions behind him. He turned to look back.
Watching Dugdale's house collapse under the destructive force of the Blasting Curse, Ivan sighed. He had finally understood everything.
"Is this fate?" Ivan muttered to himself. He had done so much since he returned, some actions taken actively, others passively, but nothing had changed, not even a little bit.
Indeed, if he appeared in front of his past self now, he could break this cycle.
But that would render all his previous efforts meaningless, leading him into another parallel timeline, so he wouldn't do that.
You can't change the past; you can only complete a part of history!
Ivan finally understood the meaning of those words.
