Chapter 327: Gibber, the Zombie Village
Chapter 327: Gibber, the Zombie Village
At the Northrise Plaza, when Naoki and Yukichika arrived, Uri and Danyu were facing off against the town administrator and several village guards, their faces flushed with anger.
The administrator frowned, his expression grave. In this remote rural town, theft was an extremely serious matter.
"Uri, Danyu, why did you steal those items? They were left behind by three precious Companion Pokemon who once protected the village!"
Hearing this, the siblings tightly clutched the masks behind their backs.
Uri hid behind her older sister, while Danyu glared angrily at the group before her, their righteous indignation fueling her voice as she shouted:
"These masks never belonged to those three bullies! They were originally the property of the Ghost-type Pokemon! It was those three troublemakers who stole the masks from the ghosts!"
The administrator widened his eyes, his anger rising. "What nonsense are you spouting? Who told you that? Clearly, the three Companion Pokemon protected the village from the ghosts!"
Danyu stamped her foot in frustration, her eyes darting around at the growing crowd of villagers, her heart filled with panic.
At that moment, Naoki and Yukichika pushed their way through the crowd, positioning themselves in front of Uri and Danyu, shielding them.
Snow Grandma enveloped the siblings in her embrace, while Yukichika glared at them sternly.
These two children had acted too impetuously! He shouldn't have told them about those matters prematurely!
"Yukichika, what's the meaning of this?" The administrator demanded, his brow furrowed.
Yukichika sighed and shook his head in dismay. "Things have come to this point, and some truths can no longer be ignored. Administrator, the legend of the Ghost-type Pokemon and the three Companion Pokemon is entirely false!"
"It was those three Pokemon who killed the Ghost-type Pokemon's family to steal the masks. The Ghost-type Pokemon only took revenge for its slain family!"
"It never harmed anyone from the village!"
"What's going on?"
"What really happened?"
"You mean the legend is a lie?"
The surrounding villagers murmured amongst themselves, intrigued and confused.
Hidden behind Naoki, the Phantump revealed its fearful emotions once more, cowering closer to Naoki.
"It's alright, don't be scared," Naoki whispered soothingly.
"How could this be possible?" The administrator's expression grew even more solemn. "We all witnessed the scene back then! The three Companion Pokemon perished at the hands of the Ghost-type Pokemon. Yukichika, you're stirring up trouble!"
Moreover, years had passed since that incident, and the truth no longer held much importance. The development and prosperity of Northrise Village were far more pressing concerns.
"That's enough! No one is to speak of this again, and this matter must not be leaked outside the village!"
The administrator issued a stern warning to the gathered crowd.
Just then, a commotion arose in the distance, accompanied by sharp cries. The villagers turned their heads in unison.
Three Pokemon were speeding toward them.
One resembled a dog, sturdy and robust. Another was monkey-like, diminutive in stature and cunning in appearance. The third resembled a chicken, flapping its elegant wings as it rushed forward.
The villagers' faces were etched with shock at the sight.
"Those are Companion Pokemon?"
"Weren't they supposed to have perished? How did they come back to life?"
"Heavens! What are they planning to do?"
Hidden behind Naoki, Phantump also witnessed the scene. After many years, it saw once again the three Pokemon that had slain its father. Phantump's emotions surged, and it couldn't help but vocalize its anger and distress.
"Poli..." it said, its voice a mix of rage and restraint.
Naoki narrowed his eyes, observing the three Companion Pokemon. Though he didn't know what had transpired or how they had resurrected, he quickly regained his composure and asked in a low voice, "Are those the ones?"
Phantump nodded angrily, "Poli!"
It clenched its fists, and in its state of anger, a terrifying green energy rapidly condensed in its hands, transforming into an enormous thorn-covered club.
Naoki was surprised by Phantump's ability but reached out to stop its impulsive action.
Phantump looked at him, confused, and Golurk stepped forward, turning its head slightly to the side. "Agas!"
Naoki smiled and said, "Let us handle this. This time, you're not alone."
"Poli..." Phantump hesitated, then nodded firmly, "Poli!"
At that moment, the administrator, upon seeing the resurrected Companion Pokemon, exclaimed joyfully, "They're Companion Pokemon!"
However, before he could finish his sentence, the red Pokemon by Naoki's side erupted with a terrifying aura.
The crimson body surged forward, and the scarlet energy pulsed silently. High in the sky, the sun shone brightly, and an ancient, violent explosion engulfed the area.
The strongest of the three, a Mightyena, was instantly knocked flying, landing on the ground, its tongue lolling out as it lay motionless.
The villagers gasped in shock at the sight.
Uri and Danyu, on the other hand, cheered and pumped their fists. "Good job, Golurk!"
The administrator stared in disbelief, his eyes wide. "What are you doing?!"
"I'm helping my Pokemon get their revenge," Naoki replied.
"Pokemon?" The administrator was stunned for a moment, wondering what he meant by revenge. When had the three Companion Pokemon bullied this outsider's Pokemon? But the next second, his attention was drawn to the unknown creature standing beside Naoki, clad in green and wearing a Viridian mask.
At first, the villagers had assumed it was a person wearing a mask, but now...
Combining this with what Uri and Yukichika had said earlier, an answer suddenly emerged in their minds regarding the identity of this unknown creature.
He turned his attention toward Golurk.
At that moment, following Poochyena, Aipom had also been knocked down, leaving only a lone Girafarig.
However, that Girafarig was very clever. Seeing that the situation had turned against it, it immediately abandoned its attempt to steal the masks and turned to flee.
"It's trying to get away!" Danyu exclaimed urgently.
Naoki glanced over, then, with Phantump and Golurk, gave chase.
Danyu and Uri hurried to follow, as the Girafarig was flying in the direction of Greenleaf Town!
The remaining administrator and some of the town guards looked at the Poochyena and Aipom lying on the ground, their faces peaceful, unsure of what to do.
"What should we do now?" one of the town guards asked the administrator.
The administrator replied without hesitation, "Companion Pokemon are key to the development of our tourism industry in Greenleaf Town. We rely on them to attract tourists, so we mustn't let them die! Go to the town and ask Nurse Joy for some Potions!"
"Yes, sir!"
The Girafarig didn't fly far. It landed in Greenleaf Town and made its way to the Pecha Berry Shop.
By the time Naoki and Phantump caught up, the Girafarig was already in front of the shop, grabbing at a dusty purple doll on the stall with its wings, shaking it incessantly.
It looked as if it was praying fervently.
"Agas?"
Golurk glanced at the Girafarig with a hint of confusion.
"What is that?" Danyu asked breathlessly as she caught up.
"I don't know," Naoki shook his head.
Just then, the purple Pecha Berry doll began to move strangely.
Immediately after, the berry split in half, revealing the strange-looking Pokemon inside.
A look of surprise appeared on the Girafarig's face.
Naoki was taken aback by this sight.
Was that thing also a Pokemon?
"Poli!"
Phantump, who was nearby, also saw what was happening and looked angry.
Naoki immediately understood that this thing must have bullied Phantump as well!
"Golurk, attack it!" Naoki ordered directly.
"Agas!"
However, just as Golurk was about to rush forward, something unexpected happened.
A purple aura suddenly appeared on the purple Pecha Berry Pokemon.
Just before Golurk could reach it, the Pokemon quickly hid behind the shop owner.
Golurk was forced to stop.
"Ms. Suzu, get out of the way!" Danyu shouted anxiously.
However, the old lady stood still and didn't move.
Something's not right! Naoki immediately sensed an unusual aura.
The next second, he saw the old lady's mouth open as she slowly uttered two words:
"Giga..."
At the same time, back in Northrise Center.
The village chief and his companions, who were about to treat Poochyena and Aipom, suddenly froze.
Then, to the bewilderment of the surrounding villagers, they slowly straightened up, their eyes blank, like mindless zombies.
"Giga..."
The other villagers took a step back in astonishment at this strange sight.
"Village Chief?" someone tried to call out.
But the village chief didn't respond. They kept muttering the word "Giga" as they walked down the mountain in unison, their movements mechanical.
At that moment, not only in Northrise Center but also in Greenleaf Town, many people had turned into zombies.
Some had been eating, others had been using the bathroom, and some had been sleeping.
But now, they all stopped what they were doing, their eyes vacant and their movements stiff as they walked out of their homes and gathered in front of the Pecha Berry Shop, surrounding Naoki and his group.
Danyu, confused, asked, "What's going on? What happened to everyone?"
"They're being controlled by that Pokemon!" Naoki realized immediately.
So it wants to use these villagers as meat shields to avoid getting hurt itself? What an evil tactic!
As Naoki noticed the growing number of villagers surrounding them, someone even started pulling on Uri's leg.
Frightened, Uri cried out, "Sister!"
Danyu rushed into the crowd to pull her brother free.
Seeing this, Naoki frowned and took out the Poke Balls containing his Dragonite and Vibrava.
"Dragonite, get them out of here!"
"Dragonite!"
Dragonite scanned the surroundings and quickly understood the situation. It flew forward, knocking aside the crowd with its body and grabbing Uri and Danyu with its claws before flying into the air.
Seeing them escape, Naoki and Phantump also mounted Golurk and took to the sky.
At that moment, the Girafarig charged at Golurk aggressively.
With Golurk in its Rider form, it was a bit cumbersome to respond. Just as the Girafarig was about to collide with them, Vibrava, who had been waiting for an opportunity, suddenly burst forward.
The powerful psychic power instantly materialized, like a tsunami, engulfing the Girafarig.
The Girafarig's attack was abruptly halted.
"Power Herb!" Naoki said in a low voice.
Without a sound, Vibrava disappeared from its original position and reappeared behind the Girafarig, unleashing a dazzling beam of light akin to a shimmering gem, engulfing the Girafarig.
"Northrise Village is no fun at all. I'm never coming back here after this," he muttered to himself.
However, he was relieved to notice that not everyone in the town was under the purple Pokemon's control. A few cautious villagers stealthily avoided the controlled townspeople and hurried back to their homes, locking their doors and windows.
"If not everyone is affected, there must be a condition that needs to be met for the Pokemon to control someone," Naoki mused.
Suddenly, Uri and Danyu remembered the masks in their hands. "That's right! The masks! Phantump, we got your masks back!" They presented the three masks to Phantump.
Phantump stared blankly at the siblings. "Poli..."
"Take them back! Now that you have all your masks, you can go back to your homeland with Mr. Naoki!" Danyu urged.
Naoki, who was called 'Mr.' by the children: "..."
Phantump felt touched as it recalled how these two children had stood up for it earlier in the day.
"Don't be scared. We're your friends!" Uri added cheerfully.
Phantump smiled, feeling happier than it had been since its father left. "Poli~"
After a brief moment of joy, Danyu's face fell back into a worried frown. "Mr. Naoki, what do we do now? That Pokemon is so despicable! Using the townspeople as shields to protect itself!"
"First of all, don't call me Mr. I'm only fourteen years older than you, not that old," Naoki replied with a slight grin.
Uri looked at Naoki with envy, impressed by how calm he seemed despite the situation.
Naoki, weighing his options: "As for what to do... "
The first option was to rely on their own strength and search slowly. They could send out Golurk, the natural-born hunter from ancient times, to track down the purple Pokemon using its Ghost-type abilities and Infiltrator move to hide its presence.
The second option was to call over Ai-Chan and have her use Moongeist Beam to purify the controlled villagers.
The third and simplest option was to summon Lugia and launch a large-scale holy war against Northrise Village, solving the problem while also establishing their religious dominance in the area.
