Chapter 326: Secret Passage (Second Update)
Chapter 326: Secret Passage (Second Update)
It was a Friday in September, October, just before Halloween, during Herbology class.
Jerry was working with Hermione, picking plump, pink pods from the bubble vines and extracting the shiny beans, placing them into a wooden bucket.
Ron, who was nearby, excitedly chimed in:
“Have you seen the announcement in the Great Hall? We can go to Hogsmeade Village tomorrow!”
“Oh, tomorrow?”
Jerry's heart skipped a beat. If he remembered correctly, Sirius Black was going to sneak into the castle during the Halloween Feast tomorrow, when everyone was in the Great Hall, and tear the Fat Lady's portrait to shreds because she refused to let him into the Gryffindor common room to capture Peter Pettigrew.
“Unfortunately, I can’t go with you. My aunt and uncle didn’t sign my permission slip!”
Harry, standing next to Ron, looked dejected.
“Harry, you’ll definitely go next time. They’ll catch Black soon; he’s already been spotted once.”
Hermione tried to comfort him.
Seeing his best friend’s disappointment, Ron thought for a moment and suggested:
“Black isn’t a fool; he won’t make a move in Hogsmeade. Harry, why don’t you ask Professor Mcgonagall if you can go this time? Next time could be ages away—”
“No, I already asked. Professor Mcgonagall said no permission slip, no Hogsmeade. It’s the rule!”
Harry’s head drooped even lower.
“Harry, don’t worry. Just bring your Invisibility Cloak and wait by the One-Eyed Hunchback Statue on the Fourth Floor. I have a plan to get you to Hogsmeade.”
Jerry, snapping out of his thoughts, smiled at Harry.
He knew Sirius Black wouldn’t harm Harry, so there was no risk in Harry going to Hogsmeade.
For adults, missing a trip to Hogsmeade was no big deal, but for a young wizard who had never been and was eagerly looking forward to it, it was a completely different story.
If all the other young wizards went and Harry was left behind, it would be too pitiful.
For Jerry, helping out with something so simple was the least he could do.
Recently, he had traded various prank magic items he bought from Greece with the Weasley Twins for the Marauder's Map.
For the Weasley brothers, who had memorized all of Hogwarts’ exits and had the magic skills to easily avoid Filch’s patrols, the Marauder's Map was no longer very useful. They were happy to trade it for new prank items they hadn’t seen before.
After all, Jerry had given them the catnip to use against Mrs. Norris, and they had a good relationship with him.
As for Jerry, he had his own reasons for wanting the Marauder's Map. At the very least, he needed to know Sirius Black’s location if he were to enter the castle tomorrow.
“That’s not a good idea!”
Hermione looked hesitant.
Hermione and Professor Mcgonagall shared a lot of similarities. Both were adventurous at heart but also strict rule followers.
So, when Hermione heard Jerry’s plan to take Harry to Hogsmeade Village against the rules, her first reaction was that it was wrong.
But if it really happened, she could quickly come to terms with it.
“Don’t worry. Even if we do run into Sirius Black, as long as you stay close to me, I’m confident I can keep you safe!”
And sometimes, we need to be flexible. Rules are rigid, but people are not!"
Jerry winked at the three of them.
At this moment, Hermione, Harry, and Ron suddenly remembered that although Jerry was also in their third year, his strength was vastly different from theirs.
He had single-handedly dealt with over a dozen Dementors and had even disarmed fifteen Aurors, who were skilled in magical duels.
In terms of actual combat power, the terrifying Death Eater Sirius Black might not even be a match for Jerry.
"Jerry, can you really find a way to sneak Harry to Hogsmeade?"
Ron's face was full of curiosity, and Hermione and Harry, no longer hesitating, also looked curious.
But Jerry deliberately kept them in suspense:
"You'll know tomorrow!"
The next morning, in the Great Hall.
Under the watchful eyes of caretaker Filch, Jerry and the others waved goodbye to Harry, who was sitting on the marble staircase, and set off with the group toward Hogsmeade Village.
Once everyone's backs had disappeared, Harry hurried back to the Gryffindor dormitory on the eighth floor, grabbed the Invisibility Cloak hidden under his bed, and rushed to the fourth floor.
Meanwhile, Jerry, Hermione, and Ron quietly slipped away from the crowd after arriving in Hogsmeade Village and headed straight for Honeydukes, the candy shop.
"Why are we here?"
Standing at the shop entrance, Hermione whispered.
Jerry smiled.
"Because this shop has a secret passage that leads to the fourth floor of Hogwarts Castle. You two wait here, and I'll go through the passage to bring Harry over!"
"How did you know about it?"
Ron's face was full of surprise.
"I heard it from your two older brothers!"
Jerry left them with that and walked into Honeydukes.
"They never told me there was a secret passage to Hogsmeade!"
Ron's lips twitched as he watched Jerry's retreating back.
Hermione added, hearing Ron's complaint:
"They also never told you that the Sorting Ceremony uses the Sorting Hat, not some kind of harmful test!"
During the Sorting, if she hadn't heard Ron's words, she wouldn't have been so nervous, only to find out it was just a hat.
Ron thought about all the pranks his two older brothers had pulled on him over the years. Suddenly, not telling him about the secret passage didn't seem like such a big deal.
Compared to turning his favorite teddy bear into a giant spider, almost making him swear an unbreakable vow at the age of five, and feeding him a sour candy that burned a hole in his tongue, not telling him about the secret passage seemed much better.
At least it wasn't a secret passage from Hogwarts to the Forbidden Forest, with an exit right into the Acromantulas' lair!
He had to admit, sometimes the "love" his two older brothers showed him was a bit too much to bear.
"They're here!"
Less than twenty minutes later, Hermione suddenly pointed at the entrance of Honeydukes, her voice filled with surprise.
Jerry was walking toward them, giving them a thumbs-up.
Although no one was with him, Hermione noticed the faint footprints on the ground next to him with her sharp eyes.
She knew those were Harry's, walking under the Invisibility Cloak.
