Chapter 325: The Trap
Chapter 325: The Trap
The armored vehicle departed from the harbor warehouse, heading towards the Elephant House Tavern, as Sun Rao and Chen Chuan had just received news that the wealthy siblings had not only left their home but were specifically heading towards this place.
This was no ordinary location, especially at this time.
Yinglu District was the area in Jinbei Province's Central City with the highest concentration of foreign immigrants. Currently, the largest gang was the Swordfish Gang, with over half of its members originating from various island nations overseas, backed by the Ferris Wheel Company. However, this dominance had only emerged in recent years.
Previously, the Elephant Gang was the most prominent gang in Yinglu District, with most of its members being migrant workers from the Shenyi Peninsula during the Great Expansion Era. After the rise of the Swordfish Gang, the two gangs frequently clashed, and the Elephant Gang was gradually pushed back to the district's fringes.
However, many other forces did not want the Ferris Wheel Company to monopolize power in Yinglu District, so they secretly provided financial and weapon support to the Elephant Gang. Now, although the Elephant Gang couldn't expand its territory, it could still firmly defend its turf.
Especially since the Elephant Gang had several skilled fighters, the Swordfish Gang, after seizing most of the territory, didn't want to provoke them unnecessarily. Thus, this stalemate persisted.
But the conflicts between the two gangs didn't cease. Every few days, there would be another clash. The Elephant House Tavern was the Elephant Gang's territory, and they strictly prohibited any foreigners from entering. Recently, a group of conservatives within the gang had started to resent anyone who wasn't of their own kind.
"The father of these siblings has business dealings with the Wheel Company, so they're safe in the Swordfish Gang's territory. But why the hell did they come to the Elephant Gang's turf? Are they out of their minds? Do they think the Elephant Gang won't notice? And to choose this moment when the two gangs are about to clash is just asking for trouble!" Sun Rao couldn't help but curse, "Junior, you know, I really wish these two idiots would just hurry up and die. But then I think about the aftermath and the Bureau having to clean up the mess, and it just makes me sick."
Chen Chuan remained silent. These siblings weren't acting impulsively; they probably wanted to witness the conflict between the Bureau and the gangs, seeking excitement and thrills.
Sun Rao's frustration was understandable, but in reality, those directly involved in operations faced these stressful situations daily, no matter their location. Only by climbing the ranks could one delegate such tasks to subordinates.
For fighters, the simplest solution was to become a Trilateral Fighter, which would exempt them from such tasks. Even if the Bureau assigned them, they could easily find other opportunities outside.
With strength, one could be comfortable anywhere; otherwise, it was the same everywhere.
After fifteen minutes, they spotted a towering tavern in the distance, its top soaring high, the entire building exuding grandeur and spaciousness, with dazzling figures descending from above.
As they drew closer, the sound of intense gunfire erupted, growing louder. Judging by the noise, at least a hundred people were engaged in fierce combat.
There was no point in expecting the City Patrol to intervene; with such heavy gunfire, they wouldn't dare approach. They bore the brunt of criticism during routine operations and were the first to respond when incidents occurred, so why invite trouble?
The Resonator informed Sun Rao that a field barrier had been detected around the tavern, making it difficult to ascertain the situation. Meanwhile, the Bureau relayed that the siblings were indeed inside, requesting them to take action.
"Damn!" Sun Rao cursed, "Let them die! Without technical support, we can't locate them, and we can't stop the gang war with our strength alone. I won't risk my team and myself by entering."
He turned to Chen Chuan, "Since I'm leading this operation, the responsibility falls on me."
Chen Chuan looked at him, wanting to say something.
Sun Rao waved his hand, "No need for words. I've decided to take responsibility, and you're on your first mission, unaware of the situation. It's unreasonable to burden you with this."
Chen Chuan tried to speak, but Sun Rao interrupted again, "I know what you want to say. Our armored vehicle can charge in, but there might be experts in the gang, or even heavyweights. It's too risky to enter; staying outside is the right choice!"
After a brief pause, seeing Sun Rao had finished, Chen Chuan spoke, "That's not what I wanted to say."
"What is it, then?"
Chen Chuan explained, "I'm thinking, with so many people from the Swordfish and Elephant Gangs clashing, is Tong Daguang among them? If he's not there, is he at their base? Does he have protection? Could he be under surveillance?"
Sun Rao's expression changed, and he replied, "You're right." After a moment, he added, "We need to find out his location first."
He immediately instructed his Resonator to locate Tong Daguang's whereabouts, but they seemed to encounter interference, causing a slow response.
After about twenty minutes, they finally received news that Tong Daguang was not at the base but had left in a hurry half an hour ago, possibly heading towards String Street.
Sun Rao sensed something amiss and immediately ordered the driver to rush there at top speed.
As the armored vehicle arrived at the scene with lightning speed, they found the entire street cordoned off by the city patrol vehicles. The area was already sealed off, and upon seeing the Processing Bureau's cars, the road was cleared for their entry.
Stepping out of their vehicle, they encountered a gruesome sight. The ground was littered with contorted corpses, severed limbs, scattered biological implants, and dripping bodily fluids hanging from tree branches. The scene was truly horrific.
A group of people, dressed in casual attire but unmistakably from the Processing Bureau, stood in the center of the area. Sun Rao recognized one of them and called out, "Captain Li!"
Chen Chuan also identified the man as Captain Li, with whom he had worked before. Captain Li glanced around, deep in thought.
Turning back, Captain Li approached them, expressing surprise, "Why are you here? Weren't you supposed to be kept in the dark?"
As he spoke, he noticed Sun Rao's expression and suddenly realized something. He slapped his forehead, "I let it slip. Never mind, at this point, there's no need to hide anything from you."
Sun Rao looked at him, "So... the Bureau had already made arrangements?"
Captain Li surveyed the surroundings and led Chen Chuan and Sun Rao aside, "Yes, the Bureau made arrangements. We reassigned our personnel to other areas and assigned you to patrol here, creating a seemingly empty trap.
"We didn't inform you beforehand because we were afraid your youth might not fool Wei Wusheng's informants. We hope you don't mind."
"Captain Li, we were on patrol in the vehicle," Sun Rao explained, "If you had told us, we could have cooperated as well."
Captain Li paused, considering something, then looked at Sun Rao, "We had discovered this earlier, and the Resonator you worked with was being monitored. Yet, he remained unaware of it all."
"He has collaborated with the Bureau numerous times, gaining certain privileges and information. If someone were to target him, they could easily obtain our internal information."
"It's not just you; there are others in the Bureau who cooperate with Resonators. Most Resonators have some issues, and this time, the Bureau decided to exploit this weakness by assigning several tasks. However, it seems that your involvement was indeed a loophole."
Sun Rao's expression turned sour at this revelation.
Captain Li waved his hand dismissively, "Don't worry, it's not your fault. The Resonator you used was authorized by the Bureau, and this time, we managed to lure out Wei Wusheng. It's not a mistake but a success. Without you, it would have been much harder to find him."
"Wei Wusheng!" Sun Rao exclaimed, "Captain Li, did you capture him?"
Captain Li sighed, "Wei Wusheng's strength exceeded our expectations. In this operation, we had two Trilateral Fighters participate in the encirclement, along with other specialized personnel for support. Despite this, Wei Wusheng still managed to break through and escape."
Sun Rao couldn't help but ask, "Why didn't the Bureau send more people?"
Captain Li replied helplessly, "The Bureau wants to as well, but our personnel are well-known outside. Most of them have been reassigned to other areas to ensure Wei Wusheng believes our people aren't here."
The two Trilateral Fighters involved in the encirclement were specially assigned from other regions. Engaging Trilateral experts isn't a simple matter; it involves many complications. To decide and gather two of them in such a short time is already impressive."
Chen Chuan interjected, "Captain Li, was Wei Wusheng injured?"
Captain Li hesitated, "The two experts we invited were injured, so Wei Wusheng should also have sustained some injuries. We will intensify our search and capture efforts..."
Just then, a signal came through the Boundary Certificate, causing Captain Li's expression to change slightly. He spoke to Chen Chuan and Sun Rao in a low voice, "Zhe Rong is dead. I need to go check it out. You..." He glanced at Chen Chuan, as if realizing something, "Never mind, follow me."
After saying this, Captain Li hurried back to instruct his team.
Chen Chuan returned to the vehicle, and after a while, he learned from scattered messages that Wei Wusheng had ambushed Tong Daguang, who was on his way to the Elephant House, killing all twenty-seven people in one go. However, he also found himself surrounded by the Processing Bureau's reinforcements.
Despite Wei Wusheng's display of strength far exceeding expectations, he managed to escape capture. Instead of fleeing or leaving the Lumina District, he turned back to kill Zhe Rong, who was still engaged in a martial arts exchange at the martial arts hall.
This move was both bold and audacious.
However, upon closer inspection, it was a reasonable choice. Since Wei Wusheng had escaped the Processing Bureau's encirclement, he naturally assumed that their forces were limited to the initial group, and there were no other personnel outside. So, he decided to turn and kill Zhe Rong.
Wei Wusheng's actions indicated that this encirclement might not have severely injured him, which is why he could make such a move.
Nevertheless, there was another concern to consider. Sun Rao was also on Wei Wusheng's list, and there was a possibility that Wei Wusheng might not stop at Zhe Rong but turn to target him next.
