Chapter 324: Dysfunction
Chapter 324: Dysfunction
Sun Rao furrowed his brows as he read the message.
The transmission contained information about a wealthy young couple from another central city, children of a high-ranking executive in a major company. They had left their hotel and were wandering around Yinglu District, visiting areas with poor security. The bureau had requested that they be looked after to prevent any incidents.
Sun Rao had no interest in such tasks, as they had more important matters to attend to. However, as it was an urgent request from the bureau, he had no choice but to comply.
The armored vehicle made a swift U-turn and headed towards the location indicated by the Boundary Token.
Chen Chuan checked the information and discovered that the wealthy disciples were not fighters. "If they're not fighters, shouldn't this be handled by the city patrol?" he asked.
Sun Rao sighed, "Ideally, it shouldn't be our responsibility, but if these two cause trouble, the city patrol won't be able to handle it. It'll eventually fall back on us. It's better to prevent them from causing any issues in the first place."
Chen Chuan asked, "If they're the children of a high-ranking executive, shouldn't they have security personnel with them when traveling? Is there a need to be so tense?"
Sun Rao explained, "They do have security personnel, which usually keeps them safe. But the problem is when these individuals seek trouble themselves. Just last month, the bureau encountered a similar situation.
It involved the brother-in-law of a government official who thought he was untouchable and went out at night, only to stumble upon a group of armed militants disposing of a body. Out of curiosity, he insisted on getting a closer look, but he was shot and killed, and his body dumped into the sea.
The killer was a fighter, possibly a member of a wanted resistance organization. This incident brought scrutiny from both higher authorities and the public. With the arena tournament approaching, the bureau couldn't afford any more trouble."
"How do you plan to handle this, Senior?" asked Chen Chuan.
"For now, we can only follow them and ensure they don't do anything too outrageous," replied Sun Rao.
Following the directions of the Boundary Token, they soon spotted a dark green convertible ahead, driving recklessly on the road.
In the backseat was a security agent wearing sunglasses, while the front seats were occupied by a young couple, both around fourteen or fifteen years old. They were heavily made up with bright, elaborate makeup, and their platinum-dyed hair blew wildly in the wind.
The girl in the passenger seat, who had been bobbing her head to loud music, suddenly heard the notification and said, "Hey, there's someone following us from the Processing Bureau."
The boy, instead of being concerned, became excited. "Great! Let's see if I can shake them off." He slammed his foot on the accelerator, the engine roared, and the car surged forward.
Sun Rao observed coldly, choosing not to accelerate and follow closely. He knew that the more they pursued, the more excited the couple would become, and he had a better way to handle the situation.
First, he contacted the bureau and inquired if any resonators were available to alter the route of the couple's vehicle using the Boundary Token. However, he was informed that all resonators were busy with other matters and couldn't spare time for such a minor issue. They were told to handle it themselves.
Unable to find help from the bureau, Sun Rao contacted a trusted resonator he knew and said to Chen Chuan, "Resonators are scarce, and finding a trustworthy one is even harder. I have a long-term collaborator, a Level One Domain-certified resonator, whom I can recommend to you. If you encounter any problems in the future, you can seek his assistance."
Chen Chuan smiled and thanked Sun Rao for the recommendation.
He understood that Sun Rao's offer wasn't entirely altruistic, as resonators who frequently collaborated with the Processing Bureau often gained easier access to permissions, benefiting both parties.
The young couple soon managed to lose the Processing Bureau's vehicle, celebrating their achievement with high-fives. However, after a high-speed turn guided by the Boundary Token, they were surprised to find the bureau's vehicle reappearing beside them.
Realizing the problem, the couple became annoyed. The boy turned to the security agent and said, "Old Qian, go and stop them."
The security agent, having accompanied the couple on their reckless adventures, showed no response. He had no intention of stopping the bureau's vehicle, as he valued his life too much.
"Boring."
As the security agent remained unmoved, the bureau's vehicle continued to follow from behind. The couple, guided by the Boundary Token, had no chance to enjoy their mischief. Frustrated, the girl flipped off the driver of the armored vehicle behind them.
Sun Rao seemed to have anticipated this and sighed, "Don't be impatient, Junior. If you plan to work for the Processing Bureau in the future, you'll encounter similar situations. It's best to find a way to move up the ranks, so you won't have to endure such tasks."
Chen Chuan asked, "Senior, do you plan to continue working at the Processing Bureau after graduation?"
"Of course," Sun Rao replied without hesitation.
"I'm familiar with the people and work at the Processing Bureau. If I were to go to another department or company, I'd need time to communicate and adapt to a new environment. Moreover, while the bureau's salary isn't exceptionally high, there are occasional opportunities for additional income. We have enforcement powers and don't have to cater to company politics.
Junior, you've only been in the bureau for half a year, right? There are many things you haven't experienced yet. Once you do, you'll realize that the Processing Bureau is a desirable place to work, an opportunity not easily found by most people.
An Cheng wants to work for a company, believing he can earn a higher salary and even become a company executive, which he thinks will bring more prestige. But I think his expectations are too high. Companies are not places where one can survive without some cunning. Eventually, he'll be chewed up and spat out.
"The young siblings circled back to their original hotel, watching as the convertible descended into the underground parking garage, while an armed patrol vehicle remained stationed at the entrance.
Sun Rao spoke up, "Let's wait here for a while. Once they're upstairs, we'll head to the Swordfish Gang's hideout."
But before he could finish his sentence, a commotion echoed through the Boundary Token once more. This time, it was a message from the City Patrol Team, reporting a suspected case of Dysfunctional Syndrome in a fighter, and requesting the Processing Bureau's intervention.
Sun Rao's demeanor turned serious. Fighters afflicted with Dysfunctional Syndrome were completely immersed in their own delusions, and their actions were unpredictable. It was crucial to address the situation immediately.
Instead of lingering at the current location, Sun Rao decided to report the findings and promptly ordered the vehicle to rush to the incident site.
Meanwhile, the siblings had already parked their car and were about to return to their suite when they suddenly noticed the departure of the Processing Bureau's vehicle. The girl exclaimed, "Brother, they're leaving!"
The boy, sounding impatient, replied, "So what if they're leaving? We'll still be watched if we go out."
"Hey, let them follow us then. I found a place, and if they're willing to come, let them follow. We might even catch some excitement."
The girl muttered something under her breath, and the boy's eyes lit up. "Then let's not waste any more time. Let's go!" They excitedly returned to their car, drove out of the garage, and sped off down the main road.
The armed patrol vehicle, guided by the Boundary Token, arrived at a public warehouse in the port of Yinglu District within ten minutes. The outer perimeter was already secured by the City Patrol Team, who were impressed by the swift arrival of the Processing Bureau's armed vehicle. The team leader waved his hand, and the team members skillfully removed the blocking ropes and makeshift roadblocks, allowing the armed vehicle to enter.
