Chapter 324: Dysfunction
Chapter 324: Dysfunction
Sun Rao frowned as he read the message. It was about a pair of wealthy heirs from another Central City, children of a high-ranking executive in a major company. They had left their hotel and were wandering around the Dewdrop District, visiting areas with poor security. The Handling Bureau wanted them to take care of the situation and prevent any incidents involving these two individuals.
Sun Rao had no interest in handling such matters, especially with more important tasks at hand. However, as it was an urgent request from the Bureau, he had no choice but to comply.
The armed patrol vehicle made a swift U-turn and headed towards the location indicated by the Jie Ping.
Chen Chuan checked the information and found that the two heirs were not brawlers. He asked, "If they're not involved in brawling, shouldn't the City Patrol handle this?"
Sun Rao sighed, "Ideally, it shouldn't be our responsibility. But if these two cause any trouble, the City Patrol won't be able to handle it. It's better to prevent them from getting into trouble in the first place."
Chen Chuan inquired, "If they're the children of a high-ranking executive, shouldn't they have security personnel with them when traveling? Is it necessary to be so tense?"
Sun Rao explained, "They do have security personnel, which is usually sufficient. But the problem is when these people go looking for trouble themselves. Just last month, the Bureau encountered a similar situation.
It was the brother-in-law of a government official who thought he was untouchable. He went out at night and stumbled upon a group of armed men disposing of a body. Out of curiosity, he insisted on getting a closer look, but he was shot and dumped into the sea.
The killer was a brawler and possibly a member of a wanted resistance organization. This incident brought scrutiny from both higher authorities and the public, especially with the Arena Tournament approaching in a month. The Bureau doesn't want any more trouble."
Chen Chuan asked, "What's the plan, Senior?"
Sun Rao replied, "For now, we'll just follow them and ensure they don't do anything too outrageous."
Following the Jie Ping's directions, they soon spotted a dark green convertible ahead. The car was driving recklessly on the road, with a security guard wearing sunglasses in the backseat and a young couple in the front, both around fourteen or fifteen years old. They were heavily made up with bright and intricate makeup, and their platinum-dyed hair blew wildly in the wind.
The girl in the passenger seat had been bobbing her head to loud music but suddenly heard the notification and looked back. "Brother, there's a car following us. It looks like the Handling Bureau from Central City."
The boy, instead of being concerned, became excited. "Great! Watch me shake them off." He slammed on the accelerator, and the car roared forward, accelerating rapidly.
Sun Rao observed coldly, choosing not to speed up. He knew that the more they pursued, the more excited the couple would become. He had a better plan.
First, he contacted the Bureau to inquire if their Resonator could alter the route on the Jie Ping of the couple's car. However, he was informed that the Bureau's Resonator was busy with other matters and couldn't be bothered with such a minor issue. They were told to handle it themselves.
Unable to find help from the Bureau, Sun Rao contacted a trusted Resonator he knew personally, a Grade One Domain Certification holder. He said to Chen Chuan, "Resonators are scarce, and finding a trustworthy one is even harder. I have a long-term collaborator who is a Grade One Domain-certified Resonator. I can recommend him to you for future assistance."
Chen Chuan smiled and thanked Sun Rao. He understood that Sun Rao's recommendation was not solely out of kindness. Regular collaboration with the Handling Bureau could lead to easier access to permissions, benefiting both parties.
The young couple soon outran the Bureau's vehicle, feeling triumphant. They high-fived each other, but after a quick loop guided by the Jie Ping, they were surprised to see the Bureau's car reappearing beside them.
Realizing the situation, they became annoyed. The boy turned to the security guard and said, "Old Qian, go stop them."
The guard, having tolerated their reckless behavior, showed no response. He had no intention of stopping the Bureau's vehicle, as he valued his own life.
"Ugh."
Seeing the guard's inaction, the Bureau's car continued to follow. The Jie Ping's route kept them from having any fun, frustrating the couple. The girl flipped off the driver of the armed vehicle, and they turned the car around, heading back towards the hotel.
Sun Rao sighed and said to Chen Chuan, "Don't lose your patience, Junior. If you plan to work for the Handling Bureau in the future, you'll encounter situations like this. It's better to find a way to move up the ranks and avoid the hassle."
Chen Chuan asked, "Are you planning to stay with the Handling Bureau after graduation, Senior?"
"Of course," Sun Rao replied without hesitation.
"I'm familiar with the people and tasks at the Handling Bureau. If I were to transfer to another department or company, I'd need time to build new connections and understand their operations, which is a cost. Moreover, the Bureau offers a decent salary, with occasional opportunities for extra income. It also comes with law enforcement authority and independence from corporate hierarchies."
"You've only been in Central City for half a year, Junior. There's much you haven't experienced yet. Once you do, you'll realize that the Handling Bureau is a great opportunity, one that most people don't get."
An Cheng had his sights set on the company, believing he could earn a higher salary and even climb the corporate ladder to become a high-ranking executive, just like some of his seniors. He thought it would be a more glamorous and respectable path. But I think he's being overly optimistic. A place like that, without the right mindset, you won't last. Sooner or later, they'll chew you up and spit you out.
The young couple circled the area and returned to their original hotel. As they watched the convertible drive into the underground parking lot, an armed patrol vehicle parked at the entrance.
Sun Rao spoke, "Let's stay here for a while. Once they go upstairs, we'll head to the Swordfish Gang's base."
But before he could finish, there was another alert on the Boundary Vessel. It was a message from the City Patrol Team, requesting the Handling Bureau's assistance with a suspected Dysfunction Syndrome brawler.
Sun Rao's expression turned serious. Brawlers suffering from Dysfunction Syndrome are completely immersed in their delusions, and you never know what they might do. They must be dealt with immediately.
So, instead of staying put, they reported the situation and immediately headed towards the incident site.
Meanwhile, the young siblings, who had already parked their car and were about to return to their suite, suddenly noticed the Handling Bureau's vehicle leaving. The girl exclaimed, "Brother, they're gone!"
The boy impatiently replied, "So what if they're gone? They'll still be watching us if we go out."
"Hey, let them watch then. Brother, I found a place. If they want to follow, let them. We might even get to see some action."
The girl muttered something under her breath, and the boy's eyes lit up. "What are we waiting for? Let's go." The two excitedly returned to their car, drove out of the garage, and sped off towards the main road.
According to the Boundary Vessel, the armed patrol vehicle arrived at a public warehouse in the port area of Yinglu District within ten minutes. The outer perimeter was already secured by the City Patrol Team. Upon seeing the Handling Bureau's armed vehicle, the team leader waved, and the well-trained officers quickly removed the blockade and roadblock, allowing the vehicle to enter.
Chen Chuan had already received the information while on the road. The brawler suffering from Dysfunction Syndrome was an ex-security captain responsible for maintaining port security. He had killed the warehouse manager and injured several teammates with his weapon. Now, he was hiding in one of the warehouses.
Sun Rao said, "As long as he hasn't escaped, that's good."
He introduced the situation to Chen Chuan, "Have you heard of Dysfunction Syndrome, junior? There's always a reason for this condition. Most likely, it's triggered by some kind of stimulus. Once these symptoms appear, without the medication from a major company, recovery is almost impossible. Even if they recover, the chances of a relapse are high.
When a person with Dysfunction Syndrome fights, their compatibility with implants increases, and due to cognitive errors, they often become fearless. That's why we must deal with them immediately.
As the car came to a stop inside, he opened the door and said, "I'll handle this, junior. You wait here and see if the Bureau sends any other notifications."
Chen Chuan nodded and watched him get out of the car, gun in hand.
After about ten minutes, they heard several clear but muffled gunshots from inside the warehouse. A while later, the red light on the Boundary Vessel disappeared, and the City Patrol Team members rushed inside. Shortly after, Sun Rao emerged, seemingly unharmed.
He walked back to the car, got in, and closed the door. "The situation is under control. Last night, a group of gang members came to steal goods from the port warehouse.
The goods were placed there by the warehouse manager, containing contraband obtained through illegal channels and legitimate goods. He had conspired with the gang leader to move the goods under the guise of theft, splitting the profits and later claiming compensation from the security company and insurance for the 'stolen' goods.
But this security captain was exceptionally dedicated. Despite it being his shift change, he returned to check on things and discovered several officers collaborating with the thieves to move the goods. He killed several thieves and clashed with his teammates, ultimately securing the goods. However, the security company fired him the next day, citing the conflict with his colleagues as the reason.
He shook his head. "Someone in the security company must have been in cahoots with the warehouse manager. What he did offended many people. And when he returned home, he found out that one of the thieves he killed was... his son."
Chen Chuan glanced at the security captain's information and noticed a note. "Did he graduate from Wu Yi?"
Sun Rao explained, "Yes, he did. He had no criminal record for twenty years and only recently obtained citizen status with the help of a senior. Now, it's all gone."
He sighed, looking at the crowd outside. "Twenty years of effort..." After a while, he continued, "We've delayed long enough. Let's catch up with the Martial Arts Academy."
But just as he said this, another communication came through the Boundary Vessel, and his expression changed slightly. He muttered a curse and instructed the driver, "Old Wan, to Ivory House! Hurry!"
