Chapter 324: A New Halloween
Chapter 324: A New Halloween
The Halloween feast... and the Skeleton Dance troupe?
This certainly brought Kyle back a few months; it was a bizarre turn of events, but he accepted it naturally, his expression unchanged.
Having met people from a thousand years ago, traveling back just a few months was no big deal.
After bidding farewell to the two second-year Ravenclaws, Kyle ventured down a corridor to the right—the site of the first attack.
The students had all departed for the Great Hall, leaving the corridor deserted.
Kyle sat in an empty classroom, his thoughts drifting as he idly flipped through the pages of the diary.
Now he understood why the diary had mysteriously disappeared.
He had wasted so much time investigating its disappearance, only to find that it had been in his possession all along.
Kyle heaved a sigh, acknowledging the Gryffindor's words—time travel was indeed troublesome and best left untouched.
However, he was curious about how the first attack would unfold now that the diary was in his hands.
Time ticked by, and the sounds of merriment from the Great Hall had long since faded.
This indicated that the Skeleton Dance troupe had finished their performance and the students had begun their meal. The feast would likely conclude soon.
Kyle sat anxiously in the room.
Then, a sudden thought crossed his mind—could he be the one responsible for the first attack?
After all, he now possessed the diary, which meant that he alone could control the Basilisk at this moment in time.
"Could I really be the Heir of Slytherin?" Kyle wondered, conflicted.
Just as he hesitated over whether to go to the Chamber of Secrets, Filch's voice rang out from beyond the corridor.
"I've had enough of balloons being thrown everywhere and turtles drawn on the paintings! As if I don't have enough work already!"
Here he came...
Kyle quickly left the room and hid himself behind the staircase railing using a Disillusionment Charm.
In the distance, Filch grumbled as he walked down the corridor, stooping to wipe the floor with a mop.
"Darned Peeves... No, I must go find Dumbledore..."
Filch was getting closer. In the original timeline, he had been attacked on this floor.
Kyle wasn't sure if he was the heir who had attacked Filch, and if so, what he should do now.
Should he go to the Chamber and summon the Basilisk?
But Filch was already here, and he might leave for another floor at any moment. Even if he wanted to, Kyle wouldn't have time to go to the Chamber...
"Bang!"
Just as Filch walked to within two meters of Kyle, the door to the nearby bathroom suddenly flew open from the inside.
A huge head poked out, followed by a long body...
"No fireworks are to be set off inside the castle..."
Hearing the commotion, Filch instinctively started to look up. "This time, I'm definitely sending you to—"
"Close your eyes!" Kyle shouted.
The Basilisk obediently closed its eyes.
But it was too late.
When the Basilisk had emerged, it had also brought out a large amount of water from the bathroom.
As Filch looked up, he caught a glimpse of a pair of yellow eyes reflected on the water's surface.
"Thud..."
"Clang..."
The mop and a small bucket fell to the floor, spilling red paint everywhere.
"Hey, crybaby... spotty face..."
Peeves' excited shout echoed from a distance.
Kyle didn't have time to think and immediately ordered the Basilisk to return to the Chamber before grabbing the mop, smeared with red paint, and quickly writing a few sentences on the wall.
The Chamber of Secrets has been opened,
Beware, those who oppose the Heir.
Kyle then threw the mop away and turned to run.
At the same time, Peeves, along with the ghost of the Ravenclaw student, had reached the third floor.
In just a moment's turn, the two ghosts collided with Kyle.
As the Ravenclaw student was covering her face, she flew past Kyle without noticing him. However, Peeves stopped in his tracks.
Peeves looked at the motionless Filch, the writing on the wall, and said excitedly, "You did this, didn't you, Kyle? Up to your old tricks again, I see."
"Well... it's a grand plan..." Kyle hesitated and asked, "But can you keep a secret for me, Peeves?"
"I'd never keep a secret for you, Kyle!" Peeves grinned. "I'm going to tell Professor Snape everything and watch you get detention!"
"Five bags of balloons!"
Kyle, now calmer, didn't waste any words and simply held out his palm, "Plus a box of Stink Pellets and a set of Fanged Frisbees..."
"Oh, I like your grand plan!"
Peeves' laughter grew even happier, "Okay, okay... I didn't see anything today."
"Then, we have a deal?" Kyle smiled.
"Deal!" Peeves' eyes twinkled, and he flew around Kyle, "But I'm missing a weapon, so I'll take this first."
Kyle suddenly felt his hand lighten as the diary he had been holding was snatched away.
Having taken the diary, Peeves didn't give Kyle a chance to speak and immediately flew away, laughing loudly.
What's worse, Harry, Hermione, and Ron were also chasing after the Ravenclaw student, along with Mrs. Norris, who had just appeared on the stairs.
Kyle cursed inwardly. As someone outside of time, he couldn't afford to be caught by Mrs. Norris like Harry had been originally.
He had no choice but to give up chasing Peeves and instead ran into the nearby bathroom.
The Ravenclaw student had returned and was sitting on top of the sink, crying uncontrollably.
Kyle didn't disturb her. After checking that the Chamber was closed, he quickly rearranged the "Exploding Snap" cards on the floor, placing them back in their original positions according to his memory.
His "other self" would be coming to inspect the situation soon, and he had to restore everything to its previous state.
However, as he did this, Kyle couldn't help but feel the absurdity of the situation.
What was this... after months of painstakingly searching for clues, it turned out that the enemy was himself!
Whether to speak of it or not, such an experience would be considered quite explosive even in the wizarding world, and he had somehow managed to stumble into it...
The voices of the young wizards and witches could be heard outside the door.
Kyle looked at the "Exploding Snap" cards on the floor, ensuring that there were no issues, before stepping out of the bathroom and casually slipping the feather back into the door crack.
