Chapter 323: The Perils of Being Too Excellent (Second Update)
Chapter 323: The Perils of Being Too Excellent (Second Update)
But where there are advantages, there are also disadvantages. First, Jerry must ensure that he does not encounter his past self from the same time period, as this would cause significant trouble.
Secondly, his body and mind must be able to endure the strain, because while the Time-Turner allows him to travel back in time, his physical and mental states still experience the full duration of the time traveled.
In other words, if the Time-Turner is used too frequently, it could result in a situation where Jerry, who normally attends eight hours of classes during the day, ends up attending twenty to thirty hours of classes consecutively.
In the original story, Hermione used the Time-Turner in her third year to attend almost all the classes, but this led to her physical and mental health deteriorating significantly.
After all, most students only attend one class in the morning, lasting three hours, while Hermione attended three classes, totaling nine hours, and had to complete assignments for three different subjects. As a result, she decided to stop using the Time-Turner at the end of her third year.
This issue affects Jerry, but it is not a major concern because his physical and mental resilience far exceeds that of an ordinary person. Even if he studies and researches Magic for thirty to forty consecutive hours, it would not pose a significant problem.
What Jerry values most is the final point he discovered after using the Time-Turner once. Although the time had reverted to four hours earlier, his Red Star count had not returned to its original state and continued to deplete.
This means that if he uses the Time-Turner too frequently, it would be meaningless, as it would cause his Red Star count, which could sustain him for one to two years, to be depleted within a few months.
Once his Red Stars are exhausted, he will be immediately transported back to the Main World.
Therefore, while the Time-Turner is a useful tool, it should not be overused. Jerry needs to use it reasonably based on his Red Star count, ensuring he has enough time to complete his planned tasks.
The next morning, in the Great Hall.
"Jerry, which elective are you taking this morning?"
Daphne, sitting across the long table, looked at Jerry with anticipation.
"Oh, the same one you chose!"
Jerry elegantly cut a grilled sausage in half and, before spearing half of it with his fork and putting it in his mouth, replied.
"How did you know I chose Arithmancy?"
Daphne's face lit up with excitement. She hadn't expected that Jerry, a genius who spent most of his time researching Magic, would know her elective and even choose the same one.
Jerry paused for a moment, then smiled and looked up at Daphne.
"Last semester, when I went to Professor Snape for Magic advice, I happened to see your course schedule."
Of course, this was a lie. Jerry had no idea what Daphne had chosen. When Snape applied for the Time-Turner for him last semester, he, like Hermione, had enrolled in all the electives.
So, regardless of what Daphne chose, Jerry would be taking the same class.
"Let's go to the classroom together after breakfast. Pansy and Malfoy are also taking Arithmancy!"
Knowing that Jerry had chosen the same elective, Daphne extended an invitation.
Jerry shook his head.
"Sorry, I have something to attend to and I'm not sure when I'll be able to make it."
"Alright!"
Daphne's face showed a hint of disappointment, but the thought of attending the same class as Jerry still made her happy.
After breakfast, as Jerry left the Great Hall, Pansy pointed at Hermione, who had followed Jerry out from the Gryffindor table, and said to Daphne with a smile:
"I don't think you have much hope!"
"Damn Mudblood, how could she possibly be a match for Jerry!"
Daphne gritted her teeth in frustration, almost bending the silver spoon in her hand.
Pansy, seeing her friend's reaction, couldn't help but giggle, covering her mouth with her hand.
"Who told her to be so good at her studies? Last year's final exams, she came in second, right after Jerry. I think you should focus more on your studies. If you could surpass her, maybe Jerry would pay more attention to you."
Jerry has always been outstanding, not only in his studies but also in his looks. Many girls from his year, as well as the lower and upper years, have a crush on him, but most realize their chances are slim.
On one hand, Jerry spends most of his time studying and researching Magic, making it difficult for many girls to get close to him. Even when they see him in the common room or the library, they hesitate to approach him.
On the other hand, whenever you see Jerry outside the Slytherin common room, you almost always see Hermione Granger, who is also an academic standout.
Hermione Granger, despite being from a Muggle family, has exceptional grades, second only to Jerry. So, apart from a few extreme blood purists, many young wizards can understand their relationship.
Of course, many young witches work even harder to learn Magic, hoping to surpass Hermione in the next exam and catch Jerry's attention.
In a way, Jerry hasn't done anything, yet he has motivated a group of young wizards to study harder.
Perhaps that's what it means to be excellent—just by standing there, you can have a positive influence!
Outside the Great Hall.
"Let's go to the West Tower for Muggle Studies!"
Jerry and Hermione took out their Muggle Studies textbooks and headed straight for the West Tower.
Muggle Studies is a course where witches interpret Muggles, Muggle technology, and Muggle behavior from their own perspective.
Initially, Jerry wasn't interested in this course. After all, no one in this world knows Muggles better than he does. He not only understands the Muggles of this world but also those from other worlds, across different time periods.
However, he later learned that only witches who have taken Muggle Studies can obtain the necessary certification to work with Muggles at the Ministry of Magic.
Additionally, he was curious about how witches perceive Muggles, so he decided to add it to his course load.
Most importantly, Muggle Studies is an elective that meets only once a week, requiring only a couple of hours of his time.
By the end of the class, it was already eleven o'clock.
To be honest, it was quite interesting. Interpreting Muggle technology and history from a witch's perspective gave him a unique insight into how witches view these matters.
After the class, Jerry realized that Muggle Studies could be very useful for his future plans to integrate witches and Muggles.
"Where do we go next?"
Exiting the Muggle Studies classroom with the others, Jerry asked Hermione.
"Let's go to the Arithmancy class in the East Tower!"
Hermione pulled Jerry along, running up to the East Tower.
In an empty corner of the East Tower, they both turned the hourglasses around their necks, and time reversed. Their figures reappeared at 8:30 AM in the East Tower, then they entered the empty Arithmancy classroom.
