Chapter 323: On Duty
Chapter 323: On Duty
On the morning of June 7th, Chen Chuan received a notification from the Processing Bureau at 6 AM. He donned the uniform provided by the Bureau, tidied up, and left the Xuan Gong Mansion.
At 6:30 AM, a Processing Bureau armed patrol vehicle arrived and stopped not far in front of him. The door slid open, and someone inside beckoned him to get in.
Chen Chuan entered and glanced around. Besides the driver, a logistics officer in an auxiliary uniform sat in the passenger seat, and both nodded at him without saying a word.
In the spacious rear compartment, there was only one young man, around eighteen or nineteen years old, also wearing the Processing Bureau's uniform. This person had a sharp gaze and, after looking him over, took the initiative to speak. "Sun Rao."
Chen Chuan nodded. "Chen Chuan."
After he found a seat and closed the door, Sun Rao said, "I know you." He paused. "I'm also a sponsored Wu Yi trainee, entered the Bureau half a year before you."
Chen Chuan said, "So you're my senior, Sun."
Sun Rao looked at him again and said, "You're not what I expected. I thought you'd be more arrogant person."
"Why do you think that, senior?" asked Chen Chuan.
"Because I've seen many outstanding people with tempers," Sun Rao said, and as he spoke, the vehicle started moving again. He glanced outside and said, "Chen, it seems you haven't been on duty before?"
Chen Chuan replied honestly, "That's right."
Sun Rao said, "Your fighting skills are high, but when it comes to being on duty, it's different. Some things can't be solved by force alone. This time, the Bureau has assigned me to take charge, so during the operation, my decisions will be the main ones. If you have any opinions, you can raise them after the duty, but during the execution, I hope you'll cooperate with me."
Chen Chuan nodded. "I will."
He agreed with what Sun Rao said. During a mission, inconsistent actions could be problematic, so as a team, they needed a leader. Since he wasn't familiar with these matters, it was natural to follow the arrangements of an experienced person.
Sun Rao, seeing that he understood immediately, said, "You're easier to deal with than An Cheng."
"An Cheng?"
"Another sponsored trainee," Sun Rao explained. "I can tell that you say it with your mouth, but you think the same way. If An Cheng were here, he might agree verbally, but his actions could be unpredictable."
Chen Chuan understood that this senior, An Cheng, was the type of person with a proud heart.
Sun Rao continued, "Today's duty is actually related to Wei Wusheng's case. There are two brawlers in Yinglu District..." As he spoke, he first added Chen Chuan as a contact and then sent two sets of information through the Boundary Vessel.
Chen Chuan took a look, and the two people immediately appeared on the Boundary Vessel. One was a muscular man in his twenties with short hair and a vigorous aura, while the other was a woman whose physique was no less impressive than the man's, with equally taut muscles on her arms.
These two seemed vaguely familiar, and indeed, he had seen them before. They were the people who had watched the fight with him on the Rhinoceros Cruise Ship that day and had both been knocked down by him.
Sun Rao said, "Our focus for today's duty is Yinglu District. Currently, these two are the only ones from that cruise ship in this district, but they have been unwilling to accept the Bureau's protection and supervision. Perhaps because they always have people protecting them, Wei Wusheng hasn't come after them yet."
Chen Chuan pondered this but didn't think it was necessarily the case.
He had reviewed previous cases, not including the earliest victimized martial arts gym, as they hadn't known about Wei Wusheng's revenge plan then and were unprepared. Among the later victims, one was the security captain of a company who was killed despite being well-equipped and having teammates by his side.
This indicated that Wei Wusheng's choice of targets didn't seem to be based on their level of defense.
Sun Rao continued, "Because most of the remaining brawlers are in the Deep Unseen, Wuding, and Jiyang Districts, those areas are the Bureau's defense priorities, and most of their manpower is deployed there.
Our task is to keep an eye on these two in Yinglu District. If we do encounter Wei Wusheng, we'll need to find a way to stop him and promptly notify the Bureau."
As he spoke, he asked, "Did you bring a gun?"
"Yes, I did," Chen Chuan replied.
"A gun you bought yourself? Let me see it," Sun Rao requested.
Chen Chuan took out the "Thunderbolt."
Sun Rao was surprised and exclaimed, "The 'Thunderbolt' from Long Yin Corporation?"
Chen Chuan, seeing his unwavering gaze, simply turned the gun over, muzzle inward, and passed it to him. Sun Rao carefully took it, held it in his hands, and examined it as if appreciating a work of art. He then looked at the serial number under the grip.
"The Thunderbolt from Long Yin Corporation has a serial number on each gun. It's said that only 3,000 of them were produced domestically, and this one's serial number is 3552, making it one of the earlier guns. Where did you get it, Chen?"
"It was a gift from a senior," Chen Chuan explained.
Sun Rao said, "Then your senior isn't an ordinary person. This gun has great power and is also valuable. If I were you, I'd keep it at home and not bring it out."
"Chen Chuan, I'm telling you, a gun is meant to be used. When that senior gave it to me, he told me to use it against our enemies."
Sun Rao looked envious, sighing softly, and reluctantly returned the gun, adding, "Just be careful with it, and remember to maintain it properly after each use."
Chen Chuan put the gun away and assured him, "I will."
Sun Rao thought for a moment, then pulled out a gun case from under his seat. He opened it and took out a rifle, holding it in his hands as he said, "This is the 'Venom Arrow' produced by Guaimang Corporation. I searched for a long time to find it. It can fire four-inch bullets. Even against someone like Wei Wusheng, with his powerful cross-training, one shot won't kill him, but it will definitely leave a hole in him."
Chen Chuan glanced at the rifle, thinking that a gun was indeed the best choice against someone like Wei Wusheng. Even if it didn't kill him, it could weaken his fighting ability.
However, Wei Wusheng's previous style was one of brute force, and he wouldn't dodge bullets. But now, things might be different.
Sun Rao aimed the rifle out the window, then quickly lowered it, saying, "If he shows up, I'll give him a good show." He looked at Chen Chuan and added, "Don't worry, my marksmanship is excellent. And whenever he appears, I'll take medication to keep up with his speed."
Chen Chuan nodded, "If he shows up, I'll create an opportunity for the senior."
Sun Rao said, "Others might think it's a joke to go up against Wei Wusheng, but I trust you, Chen Chuan. I've heard that you're the most likely among us to reach the Third Limit."
"You don't know, but when An Cheng heard about this, he was determined to surpass you. But this is a matter of talent, and you can't just surpass someone overnight. It's better to accept reality early on and take it easy."
As they talked, half an hour passed, and the armed patrol vehicle arrived in Yinglu District. The towering Ferris wheel came into view, catching the attention of both Sun Rao and Chen Chuan.
Sun Rao said, "Ferris Wheel Corporation is the secret backer of the Swordfish Gang. They're a target the Bureau is keeping an eye on, but for now, they're on our side in maintaining regional stability. In necessary situations, they'll cooperate with us. Let's go and check out a few important places first."
The armed patrol vehicle patrolled the main roads of Yinglu District, making its presence known. The mere sight of the Processing Bureau's vehicle was enough to deter any potential troublemakers.
If no special incidents occurred, their task was complete.
"That place..."
As they passed by a certain street corner, Sun Rao pointed at a building, "That's Coach Zhe Rong's martial arts academy. She usually stays there all day."
Chen Chuan looked at the building, which had the word "Tuoli" prominently displayed on its wall. From time to time, sounds of heavy breathing and shouts could be heard, and there were many security personnel patrolling the area. The surrounding area was bustling with people, making it a busy commercial district. Not far from this place was the residence where Teacher Wu was secretly hiding.
Sun Rao said, "Let's take a walk around here first. In the afternoon, we'll go to the Swordfish Gang's base, where Tong Daguang is. If there's nothing special, our duty for today will be complete.
If things go well, we'll switch shifts within three days. But if things get complicated, we might have to come here every day for a while."
The armed patrol vehicle slowed down and stopped at the side of the road. The driver and assistant got out to get some drinks from a nearby shop.
Chen Chuan remained in the vehicle, and from his angle, he could observe the main entrance of the martial arts academy.
This academy seemed to be doing well, with many cars parked outside and people coming and going. After a while, a commotion erupted at the entrance, and a tall figure emerged—none other than Coach Zhe Rong. She was followed by many of her students, all wearing training uniforms.
Zhe Rong shouted a few words at the entrance, and her students followed her into the vehicles, which then drove out of the parking lot one by one.
Sun Rao cursed, "I knew they wouldn't stay put. Let's follow them!" The driver and assistant quickly got back into the patrol vehicle, and they set off in pursuit.
Chen Chuan asked, "Where are they going?"
Sun Rao explained, "They teach combat, and even if they're being watched by Wei Wusheng, they put on a fearless front. So, they've been busy holding martial arts exchanges with other academies."
He scoffed, "They probably think that with so many people around, Wei Wusheng won't dare to make a move. But the more people there are, the easier it is for Wei Wusheng to make his move."
Chen Chuan agreed, especially considering Wei Wusheng's recent shift to more discreet actions. These martial arts exchanges provide opportunities for him.
However, just as their vehicle began following, both of them received a message from the Bureau, and it kept flashing at their location.
