Chapter 323: All-Out War!
Chapter 323: All-Out War!
The Pokegear didn't display numbers for incoming calls; there were no numbers to display in the first place.
However, this device had a unique feature. After being used by the same person for an extended period, it would simulate the caller's face even before the call was answered, having grown accustomed to the user's signal.
For example, the Pokegear that was currently ringing displayed a face with a thick chin and red lips, even though a regular call wouldn't have triggered this simulation.
Sag glanced at the Pokegear and, instead of answering, chuckled, "Big Mom? Charlotte Linlin? What's the matter? Has Urki encountered this pirate crew?"
"Yes, and it's one of the 'Sweet Three Generals,' Snack, a six-hundred-million-berry bounty pirate."
Lily was also surprised, "For Urki to defeat him, was that also part of your plan, Sag?"
"How many plans do you think I have?"
Sag rolled his eyes, "But I'm not surprised he did. That ability of his converts damage taken into physical strength."
With his ability, Haki, and trained physique, how could he not win?
"Hmm?"
A thought crossed Sag's mind, and he furrowed his brows.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, just remembered something insignificant."
If not for that meddler, Urki had also defeated Snack in the original timeline.
Was this, then, ahead of schedule?
After all, this time, Urki had followed Sag into the New World right after the Shichibukai system was abolished.
The original 'Supernovas' hadn't done that. They had spent at least half a year in the 'Paradise' before gradually entering the New World.
The first half of the Grand Line required preparation as well. One couldn't simply waltz into the New World unprepared; doing so would earn the title of 'Supernova,' shining briefly before burning out.
With Urki's head start, his mastery of Armament Haki, and his improved physique, defeating Snack was well within expectations.
"A narrow victory, though."
Sag sighed and turned his attention back to the Pokegear, gesturing for the female pirate to move closer. He took the receiver from her.
The Pokegear's simulation became more vivid—a pair of round eyes with long eyelashes fixed on Sag. Even though the device relied solely on sound for communication, at that moment, Sag felt as if the person on the other end was staring right at him.
He held the Pokegear for a while, eyes locked on the simulated face, neither of them speaking, simply waiting.
About five minutes later—
"Whoo-ho-ho-ho-ho!"
"Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma!"
Both parties burst out laughing almost simultaneously.
"Norton Sag."
A voice filled with vigor, seemingly exuding endless greed, came from the Pokegear.
"I know you. You're the one who fought Kaido, aren't you?"
"You've got your information straight, even without the newspapers. And you have my number, though I don't recall ever giving it to you. No wonder they call you the industry's top intelligence gatherer."
Sag chuckled, "What's the reason for your call, Charlotte Linlin?"
The voice from the Pokegear was filled with a greedy aura, a purer greed than what Sag exuded.
"So, you know who I am," the voice on the Pokegear chuckled back.
"Big Mom Pirates' Captain, Totto Land Queen, Yonko, pinnacle of female pirates, with a bounty of four billion, three hundred eighty million, and three million berries. Your reputation precedes you, but..."
Sag moved the receiver slightly to the side, "You probably don't know who I am, Lily."
Lily pouted and hesitated, her eyes showing resistance, but the receiver was already in her hand, so she reluctantly said, "You're on the line with—"
"A noble-slaying, king-killing maritime hero, a landlord, a propagator of knowledge, a claimant to all lands, an occupier of a New World corner, a trade leader..."
"...A Farming King, a Fishing King, a Yangge King, a Mountain Bandit King, a Sea Merchant King, the captain of the Natural Disaster Pirates, a Landlord, an eighteen-billion-berry grand pirate, Norton Sag!"
After finishing the introduction, she turned her head away, a faint blush dusting her cheeks.
Not out of shyness, but out of embarrassment.
All the 'Kings' were titles Sag casually gave himself, except for the latter half, which came from the sincere admiration of those under his rule.
It was the owl—always out and about, picking up gossip, and then casually relaying it to Sag—who had told him these titles.
Sag had liked the sound of them and promptly started using them himself.
"That's right."
He brought the receiver back to his ear and said to the Pokegear, whose simulated face had turned stiff, "So, what do you want from me, Big Mom?"
The Pokegear froze for a while, its round eyes narrowing, and the red-lipped mouth opening, "Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma, what an interesting brat! That island, Skopp, isn't one of my favorite sweets, but it's within the territory I've claimed. Your subordinate defeated my son, so I give you a choice: surrender to me, and I shall forgive your transgressions."
"Ha!"
Sag laughed as if he'd heard a hilarious joke, "Since when did pirates become so childish? Do you think I'd surrender just because you called me on a Pokegear? I might as well lock myself up in Impel Down!"
"Ma-ma-ma-ma-ma, that's the spirit of a pirate. If there's something you want, you take it with your own hands!"
The voice on the Pokegear laughed loudly, the mouth opening wider, the smile turning sinister, and the tone deepening, "Then, I shall pay you a visit, Norton Sag!"
Sag's lips curled up, revealing a malicious grin, "Exactly, I'll be waiting for you at Skopp, Big Mom, no, Charlotte Linlin!"
Clack!
He hung up the Pokegear, ending the call, and raised his glass, draining it in one go.
"Sag?"
Lily paused, taken aback.
"It's obvious. She's declaring war, and I'm accepting it. It's that simple!"
Sag stood up, a sinister smile on his face, and said, "To become the Pirate King, we must ensure that the other Pirate Kings dare not act lightly. Just right, I think. One Kaido is not enough. Let's add Big Mom to the mix!"
"So, we're going to war?"
Lily frowned, "Sag, shouldn't we first conquer other territories? Isn't it too early? We're not yet among the Four Emperors."
"Lily, you don't understand. To become a Yonko, territory is important, but what's truly essential—"
Sag clenched his fists, his teeth bared in a vicious grin, "—is to ensure that the other Pirate Emperors dare not strike out easily! "
"Territory? Strength? Out on the high seas, those are just rumors. Who can truly gauge another's power? Only by directly engaging the current Four Emperors can we leave a lasting impression. Those who fail to inflict harm are weak, and weakness is a sin!"
"So, we must fight. We must not yield, retreat, or bide our time. Pirates are not creatures that politely wait for you to prepare. If they want something, they take it! If someone still desires it after we've claimed it, then they can try to take it from us. They must defeat us!"
Boom!
Once more, thunder rumbled in the sky, heralding a violent storm.
"I won't yield an inch! Can they just take what's in my hands with a few words? Is her blade truly harder than my fist? We won't know until we try!"
"Let's fight, then! Let's take on all the Four Emperors, fight them to the point that they dare not even glance in our direction. That's when I'll be the new Pirate King!"
Sag looked up at the sky, his eyes wide open, his hands raised in a victorious gesture as he laughed heartily, "Notify everyone out there to return. We..."
"...are going to war!!"
