Chapter 322: The Final Round?
Chapter 322: The Final Round?
"My turn, draw!"
Judai drew a card, leaving only two letters remaining on the Spirit Plate, indicating his last two possible action rounds.
Technically, due to the "temporary truce," he couldn't inflict any form of damage on his opponent this round. So, in reality, the only thing he could truly do was in the next round.
Judai quickly scanned his hand, and then a thought occurred to him.
"Actually, it seems there might be something else I can do."
Although he couldn't seem to inflict damage, that wasn't the only option available to him. The Spirit Plate was a continuous trap, and each turn, a continuous magic card representing a death message would fly out from his deck.
Only when five trap and magic cards were assembled on the field would he be declared the winner of the game.
Perhaps... Judai thought of something. He made up his mind and revealed a card from his hand. "I activate the magic card 'Hero's Legacy'! When there are two or more four-star or higher 'Heroes' in the graveyard, draw three cards from the deck!" (Original effect)
Judai drew three cards.
"Here it is!"
His eyes lit up as he played a card from his hand.
"Magic card 'E - Emergency Call', allows me to add any 'Elemental Hero' from my deck to my hand!"
Judai drew out a card that popped out of his deck.
"I add 'Elemental Hero - Avian' to my hand! And now I activate the magic card 'Polymerization'!"
A vortex of fusion appeared, and Avian's figure materialized on the field, merging with Wildman in a golden light as they whirled into the vortex. Two beams of light intersected, and a transparent storm erupted, sending feathers fluttering down like snow.
"Elemental Hero - Wild Wingman, Fusion Summon!"
Elemental Hero·Wild Wingman, Attack Power 1900}
"Wild Wingman's effect allows me to discard one hand card to destroy any magic or trap card on the field!" Judai declared as he discarded a hand card into the graveyard.
"I destroy the continuous trap, 'Spirit Plate'!"
"I see," Shiling acknowledged. "Since you can't inflict damage this turn, you're aiming for the back row. If the Spirit Plate is destroyed, all death messages will disappear.
And as long as we destroy the 'Super Gravity Net' next, the attack blockade will also be lifted."
In that case, the situation would instantly reverse. The reason Shiling had been able to maintain his slow, tortoise-like defensive tactics was due to the foundation of the death countdown set by the Spirit Plate.
Once the Spirit Plate was removed, he would lose his victory strategy, and it would be dangerous if Judai seized the opportunity to relentlessly attack.
"The Spirit Plate and death messages may lead to a rule victory, but they're essentially just magic and trap cards. Once they're destroyed, everything falls apart. Do you think I'd be unprepared for such an obvious weakness?" Shiling laughed heartily.
"I activate my face-down card, the counter trap 'Divine Wrath'!"
"Ah?" Judai was taken aback.
A trap card flipped, and a golden thunderbolt descended from the dark clouds, crashing down on Judai's Wild Wingman and reducing it to smithereens.
"Divine Wrath! By discarding one hand card, I can negate the activation of a monster effect and destroy it!" Shiling laughed triumphantly. "What a shame. 'Elemental Hero - Wildman' can destroy backrow cards by discarding hand cards, and as long as you have enough ammunition, you can destroy any number of backrow cards in one turn.
It's indeed the most suitable hero to break through this situation, and summoning this guy at such a critical moment shows your skill."
"Wild Wingman couldn't break through, so I'll end my turn by setting a card."
Judai felt a twinge of disappointment.
"Indeed. And the march of death will not stop here," Death Spirit cackled.
"The effect of the 'Spirit Plate' continues to activate at the end of this turn. Come forth, the second-to-last death message!"
Another spirit appeared, holding a new letter.
The letter T.
With this, the letters D, E, A, and T were assembled on the field, leaving only the final letter H until death. At the end of Judai's next turn, when the last letter appeared, it would truly be the end.
"Huh?"
Judai paused, suddenly noticing a blind spot.
"Wait a minute, the 'Spirit Plate' plus three death messages would occupy four Magic and Trap zones. You still have 'Super Gravity Net' and a set card in your backrow."
As everyone knew, the Magic and Trap zone only had five slots. This was actually another weakness of the "Spirit Plate" system. In order to gather the five death messages, one would have to fill up the Magic and Trap zones, potentially blocking their own zones.
"Heh, you're slow to notice this now. Normally, that would be the case. But as the chosen ones, our duel has transcended the bounds of common sense."
Death Spirit raised his voice. "Another effect of 'Orichalcos Barrier'! The controller of the barrier can share their Monster and Magic zones! My monsters can be summoned in the Magic and Trap zones, and vice versa for my Magic and Trap cards!"
"Oh, so that's another effect of the card," Judai exclaimed. "Wow, what a powerful ability. This means you can summon up to ten monsters or set ten Magic and Trap cards."
"Struggle in pain, and after you've struggled, feel the despair and be consumed by power! Hahahaha—" Death Spirit laughed maniacally.
"Then, at the start of my turn, I draw!"
Death Spirit drew a card and then curled his lips.
"First, I activate this set card.
Continuous Trap - Safe Zone! This card can only be equipped to an Attack Position monster. I equip it to my Attack Position 'Cotton Cloud'!"
A golden barrier, like a protective shield, encased Cotton Cloud in its center.
"A monster equipped with Safe Zone cannot be destroyed by battle or card effects, nor can it be targeted by any effect!"
"It can't be destroyed or targeted in any way," Judai commented. "That's an impregnable defense. Impressive."
"Indeed. Then, I'll change 'Cotton Cloud' to Defense Position, making it my strongest shield." Death Spirit smirked. "Now, Cotton Cloud cannot be targeted or destroyed. If you want to defeat me, you'll have to get past this absolute defense first.
Hehe, of course, by then, you'll only have one turn left."
He paused and glanced at his hand.
"Well, although I think I've practically guaranteed my victory, I might as well be a little more cautious."
He drew the card and waved his hand, inserting it into the Duel Disk.
"I'll set another card and end my turn."
