Chapter 322: Not Even Dumbledore Can Save You
Chapter 322: Not Even Dumbledore Can Save You
Riddle was seething, his eyes, red as rubies, fixed on Kyle with murderous intent.
Even during his darkest days in the orphanage, when he was scorned and called a monster, he had never hated someone as much as he did now.
And now, that person had appeared.
He was convinced that this person was the true heir of Slytherin.
That Kyle... How dare he call him a fake! Riddle cast his curse without hesitation.
"Avada Kedavra!"
A flash of green light sped forward, but Kyle was prepared, having already taken cover behind a pillar.
"Sectumsempra!"
This was a spell Kyle had learned from the book, Advanced Potion-Making, which Snape had meticulously recorded in his youth. It wasn't overly complicated to master.
Riddle made no attempt to dodge or deflect the spell. Instead, a mocking smirk played on his lips.
The Sectumsempra spell sliced through the air, as if cutting through nothingness, leaving only a thin black line in its wake. But even that faint mark soon vanished.
"Useless," Riddle laughed aloud. "Your spells can't harm me... Avada Kedavra!"
Another flash of green light.
Kyle quickly retreated behind the pillar again.
"Do you think you can keep running?" Riddle took a step forward. "You must die, even if Dumbledore himself comes here. Not even he can save you!"
Not even the Sectumsempra spell worked...
Kyle felt helpless. It seemed that his only option was to resort to technology, which felt like cheating.
He thought of the diary hidden beneath the statue's base.
But it was a bit too far away, and it would take at least five or six seconds to reach it. With Riddle casting the Killing Curse at any sign of movement, he couldn't possibly make it in time.
Just then, the Basilisk slowly slithered out from the mouth of the Slytherin statue.
Kyle had initially wanted to ask it to bite the diary, but upon further thought, he abandoned the idea. Given the Basilisk's intellect, it would likely not understand the concept of a diary.
"Kill that impostor!"
"Kill him!"
The two voices echoed simultaneously.
Riddle had been clinging to a faint hope that since he had controlled the Basilisk a few times before, there might be a chance to appeal to their familiarity and play on its emotions.
But as the Basilisk turned its head without hesitation, that last shred of hope was shattered.
Boom!
This time, Riddle truly exploded, turning into a cloud of black mist, his wand falling to the ground.
However, the mist quickly coalesced once more.
Although the Basilisk's gaze could directly affect the soul, Riddle was currently a Horcrux, and as long as the diary remained intact, he couldn't be destroyed.
"You fool! I am your master, the true heir of Slytherin!" Riddle shouted desperately. "It was always me who commanded you, me!"
But the Basilisk paid no heed. Seeing the small bean in front of it still full of life, it opened its mouth and bit down on Riddle's head.
The next second, Riddle exploded again.
Boom—
Boom!
Boom...
For a while, the Chamber of Secrets resembled a fireworks display, filled with loud explosions.
Riddle, confident in his immortality, made no attempt to dodge, continuing to speak in Parseltongue in an attempt to regain control of the Basilisk.
Until he noticed that Kyle had picked up the diary from beneath the statue...
Riddle's pupils contracted, and a terrifying suspicion took root in his mind.
"He knows he's a Horcrux!"
Once this idea surfaced, it became impossible to suppress.
Especially when he saw the smile on Kyle's face, Riddle's panic grew.
"Crucio!"
"Bombarda!"
...
In his haste, these spells were naturally wild and off-target, easily dodged by Kyle.
Riddle's curses ultimately struck the Slytherin statue behind him, blowing a large hole in it.
A pile of small animal bones and snake molt fragments fell out of the hole.
"Tsk... Look what you've done."
Kyle teased, "You don't even respect Mr. Slytherin's statue, how dare you claim to be his heir..."
Riddle paid no heed to Kyle's mockery; he was solely focused on killing Kyle and reclaiming his diary.
Fortunately, Horcruxes were challenging to destroy, so even if it fell into Kyle's hands, there was still time.
"Avada..."
Just as Riddle was about to cast another killing curse, a pair of golden eyes suddenly appeared before him.
"Bang! Patter..."
Riddle exploded once more.
"Accio wand!"
Ron's wand bounced on the ground a couple of times before flying straight into Kyle's hand.
Just then, chaotic footsteps and voices could be heard from outside the Chamber of Secrets.
"Here, Potter... come... open..."
The voice was faint and intermittent, but it was likely Professor McGonagall.
Kyle also heard Harry's name being mentioned.
Perhaps the professors had guessed that the entrance required Parseltongue to open, so they brought Harry, who could also speak it.
Regardless, it was about time to wrap things up.
Shaking his head at the writhing black mist, Kyle recalled the Basilisk, intending to have it destroy the diary before the professors arrived, bringing an end to this incident.
He knew he had broken quite a few school rules this time and hoped that he wouldn't lose too many house points because of it... though it was unlikely he could keep the Basilisk a secret.
However, Kyle failed to notice that just as he was about to place the diary in the Basilisk's mouth, a golden object fell out of the hole in the statue behind him.
The object was round, resembling a golden pocket watch, but with one peculiar difference—it had five hands.
"Tick..."
As the pocket watch hit the ground, its five hands moved simultaneously.
In an instant, the Basilisk, which had just opened its mouth, began to fly backward rapidly. Ron's wand returned to Riddle's hand, and the bones and debris on the ground retreated back into the statue, while the three spells flew back toward Riddle's wand, embedding themselves into the tip...
Time was flowing backward.
Everything around Kyle was rewinding at a rapid pace, except for him.
It all happened too fast.
By the time Kyle snapped back to reality, the Basilisk was gone, Riddle had vanished, and Professor McGonagall's voice was no longer audible...
The vast Chamber of Secrets now held only him and the diary in his hand.
"What's going on... What happened?"
Kyle looked around the empty chamber, feeling as if he were in a dream.
Could Riddle have had a Time-Turner?
But that didn't make sense. If time was reversed, why wasn't he affected...
Could he be dreaming all of this?
Just like a few days ago, was everything he was seeing an illusion, and was he actually still asleep in the hospital wing?
Kyle pinched his thigh, hard.
It hurt!
This seemed to indicate that he wasn't in some bizarre dream.
