Chapter 321: Who Stole the Philosopher's Stone? (Third Update)
Chapter 321: Who Stole the Philosopher's Stone? (Third Update)
It makes sense. Dumbledore, the greatest and most wise witch of this century, wouldn't possibly place the Philosopher's Stone, something so crucial that it could enable Voldemort's resurrection, behind a series of trivial obstacles.
The first obstacle, the Three-Headed Dog from Greek mythology, has a well-known weakness: it falls asleep to music. Even without prying information from Hagrid, anyone who has visited Greece would know this, as it's a common part of local magical folklore.
The second obstacle, Devil's Snare, has a weakness that is taught in class. Any young wizard who pays attention in class would know how to deal with it.
The subsequent challenges—catching a key on a Flying Broom, a chess match, and a potion test—are even more absurd. If someone is trying to steal the Philosopher's Stone, they should be killed on the spot, not given a series of tests to pass. It's not like they're escaping from the Chamber of Secrets.
Jerry thinks that if the Philosopher's Stone were truly to be protected, the Flying Broom challenge should have countless arrows suspended in the air, piercing anyone who tries to enter. The chess challenge should involve the thirty-two pieces drawing their blades and dismembering anyone who steps into the room.
As for the potion, giving the thief a parchment to choose whether to move forward or backward is ridiculous. Are they hoping the thief will have a change of heart?
A room filled with flames, burning the intruder to a crisp, would be a more appropriate way to protect the Philosopher's Stone.
Oh, and let's not forget the Troll that can be knocked out with a simple Levitation Charm and a Club to the head.
Is this really meant to deter powerful Death Eaters who can infiltrate Gringotts and steal under the noses of Fire Dragons and countless guards, or the infamous Dark Lord Voldemort?
Therefore, Jerry believes that the earlier obstacles were designed by Dumbledore specifically to test and train Harry and his friends, while also luring out the traitor Quirrell.
The true defense against Voldemort is the Magic Dumbledore left in the Mirror of Erised.
Jerry can't break Dumbledore's Spatial Magic, at least not in the short term. The warning Magic is also nearly impossible to bypass with a simple Shield Charm. It seems to contain Dumbledore's mental energy, suggesting a mental synchronization warning. Simply blocking the Magic's power fluctuations wouldn't be enough.
While this result is somewhat unexpected, it's not unsolvable.
For a witch or wizard in this world, even Voldemort at the height of his power, bypassing this Magic without alerting Dumbledore would be impossible.
However, Jerry is an exception. He has not only studied the Magic of this world but also the Magic from three other worlds. There must be a Magic that can handle this situation.
After some thought, he took out a large mirror from his Spatial Box and placed it next to the Mirror of Erised.
Then, he tapped the ordinary mirror lightly:
"Hungarian Mirror Realm!"
Indeed, even in the Hogwarts Castle built by the four founders, Jerry cannot use his modified Apparition to teleport.
But that's not a problem. He can open a mirror realm and use it to change his position.
Even if Dumbledore uses a Phoenix to teleport here, he won't be able to catch him.
As for the powerful Spatial Magic on the Mirror of Erised, no problem. Since he can't solve it, he'll just break it.
"Magic Sword!"
A Magic Sword once again formed in Jerry's right hand.
"Right, I should leave a note first!"
Just as Jerry was about to slash the Mirror of Erised, he suddenly thought of something and stopped. He pulled out a parchment and used a writing spell to leave a message on it, which he then threw to the ground before slashing the mirror with his sword.
"Crack!"
The blue Magic Sword collided with the mirror's surface, and they remained locked in a stalemate for about two seconds. In the end, the Magic Sword's ability to break magic proved superior. The mirror cracked with a sharp sound, first showing fissures, then shattering into pieces.
At the same time, a small crimson stone fell to the ground among the broken mirror fragments.
Without hesitation, Jerry immediately picked up the Philosopher's Stone and leaped into the nearby mirror that he had prepared.
At that moment, a flame rose beside the Mirror of Erised, and Dumbledore, wand in hand, appeared in the room.
"Crack!"
Another sharp sound echoed as the ordinary mirror Jerry had placed beside the Mirror of Erised shattered into countless glass shards, which fell to the ground.
"What in the world is going on here?"
Dumbledore frowned, his face full of confusion.
Looking at the empty room, the shattered glass fragments, and the missing Philosopher's Stone, the greatest and wisest wizard of the century was now bewildered.
"Restore!"
With a wave of his old wand, both the Mirror of Erised and the ordinary mirror Jerry had taken out were restored to their original state. However, the Philosopher's Stone hidden within the Mirror of Erised had disappeared, and the ordinary mirror had lost its magical properties, reverting to a normal mirror.
After inspecting both mirrors and finding no abnormalities, Dumbledore finally picked up the parchment left on the ground.
"Respected Headmaster Dumbledore:
Please forgive my unauthorized entry into your school and the taking of the Philosopher's Stone you had hidden. I had no ill intentions and am neither a dark witch nor a Death Eater. I am simply very interested in the alchemy magic on the Philosopher's Stone and wish to study it.
Once my research is complete, I will return the Philosopher's Stone to your school in its original condition. Additionally, I will periodically send some Elixir of Life via owl for Mr. Flamel and Mrs. Flamel to use.
—A witch from New York, passionate about alchemy."
"I can only hope that you are truly just a witch passionate about alchemy!"
Dumbledore sighed helplessly as he read the parchment.
There was nothing he could do now. He had no idea how the person had stolen the Philosopher's Stone and escaped right under his nose, so naturally, he had no way to retrieve the Philosopher's Stone.
Therefore, he could only hope that it was not Voldemort who had stolen the Philosopher's Stone, but rather a skilled alchemist.
However, from the act of stealing the Philosopher's Stone and deliberately leaving a note, as well as the content of the note, it did not seem like the style of Voldemort or the Death Eaters.
Still, he found it hard to believe that a witch of such skill had emerged in the wizarding world.
To silently infiltrate Hogwarts Castle, breach all seven defenses, and bypass the Anti-Apparition restrictions to steal the Philosopher's Stone so calmly—this was no small feat.
Who could this person be?
Unable to find any leads, he decided to go back and examine the first seven defenses, hoping to find some clues from the magical residues left behind.
