Chapter 320: The Final Defense of the Philosopher's Stone (Second Update)
Chapter 320: The Final Defense of the Philosopher's Stone (Second Update)
Easily clearing the second challenge, the Devil's Web, Jerry continued down the stone tunnel deep beneath the castle, quickly arriving at the third challenge.
The room was brightly lit, filled with countless winged keys and a heavy wooden door reinforced with various spells by Head of Ravenclaw, Professor Flitwick.
Having seen the movie, Jerry knew that to pass through the wooden door, he needed to use the broomstick to catch the key that could unlock it from the swarm of flying keys above.
This was no challenge for him.
However, instead of walking over to the broomstick, Jerry went straight to the wooden door, as he had a simpler method.
"Summon Sword!"...
With a spell, a blue magic sword slowly formed in his right hand.
This magic was created by his research on the Sword Card.
Wielding the magic sword, he instantly became a master swordsman, and the sword was not only incredibly sharp but also had the special effect of Anti-Magic.
The exact sharpness and Anti-Magic power depended on his mental and spiritual strength.
"Slash!"
With a powerful swing of the magic sword, the heavily enchanted wooden door, fortified by Professor Flitwick's various protective spells, instantly shattered into several evenly sized pieces.
Clearly, neither the physical nor magical defenses of the wooden door could withstand the sharpness and Anti-Magic power of the magic sword.
Jerry walked through the door frame, entering the fourth challenge, a massive Wizard's Chess set created by Head of Gryffindor, Professor Mcgonagall.
To pass this challenge, one had to control the black pieces and defeat the white pieces. If one was not skilled at chess or was a poor player, they could do what Jerry was about to do.
Break through by force!
Holding the magic sword, he crossed the middle line of the chessboard. As the large white pieces attacked him, he swiftly cut them into pieces. When all the white pieces were destroyed, the challenge was over.
"Finally, the last challenge!"
According to his memory, after the Wizard's Chess in the movie, the next challenge was the Mirror of Erised, where Dumbledore had hidden the Philosopher's Stone.
Pushing open the wooden door, a nauseating stench hit him.
"Damn, that's terrible!"
What faced Jerry was not the Mirror of Erised but a troll of exceptional height.
"Roar!"
The troll, spotting Jerry, immediately showed an excited expression, drooling and wielding a large club as it charged at him.
"You, don't come any closer!"
Feeling his nose about to fail him, Jerry quickly raised his hand and cast a spell at the charging troll:
"Wind!"
A gust of green wind shot out, hitting the troll and slamming its massive body into the opposite stone wall, rendering it unconscious.
"Damn, there will never be any trolls in my Space Box again; they are just too stinky!"
Currently, Jerry was mostly in "Mental Clarity" mode, so his sense of smell was much more sensitive than a normal person's, making him particularly susceptible to the stench.
Deciding to remove trolls from his list of Fantastic Beasts, he quickly pinched his nose and fled the room.
The next room was not the final challenge.
As he stepped into the room, the door behind him was blocked by a Purple Flame Wall, and the exit to the next challenge was also blocked by a Black Flame Wall.
In the center of the room stood a table, on which were placed seven bottles of various shapes and a parchment.
Without much thought, Jerry could guess that this was a challenge set by Professor Snape, the potion master.
"I didn't expect there to be more than five challenges in the movie."
After muttering this, Jerry stepped toward the table.
Neither the Trolls nor these potions were part of the movie he had watched. In the film, after the Wizard's Chess challenge, they went straight to the room with the Mirror of Erised.
"Well, it's a riddle, of all things. I didn't think Professor Snape would be into this sort of thing, but I don't have the patience for riddles."
Jerry picked up the parchment, shrugged, and cast an improved Shield Charm around himself before stepping through the Black Flame Wall.
An improved Shield Charm that could withstand even the Killing Curse was not something the Black Flame Wall could penetrate, despite the powerful Dark Magic it contained, which was more than just simple flame magic.
After crossing the Black Flame Wall, Jerry finally found himself in the last room, where the Mirror of Erised, containing the Philosopher's Stone, stood.
It was an imposing mirror, reaching up to the ceiling, with an ornate golden frame and two claw-like feet supporting it. At the top, a line of text was engraved: "Erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi."
Approaching the mirror, threads of magic power emanated from it, trying to envelop Jerry.
Frowning, he released a powerful surge of magic power, blocking the mirror's influence.
"I don't need futile fantasies. If I want something, I'll go and get it!"
The Mirror of Erised was a magical mirror that could read your mind and reflect your deepest desire at that moment.
Jerry did not like the idea of opening his heart to a mirror, especially one that Dumbledore had tampered with.
"Dumbledore's proficiency in spatial magic is truly exceptional!"
After a brief examination of the Mirror of Erised, Jerry quickly realized that the mirror had been augmented with a highly complex layer of spatial magic and warning magic.
If his guess was correct, breaking Dumbledore's spatial magic would allow him to retrieve the Philosopher's Stone hidden inside, but it would also trigger the warning magic, alerting Dumbledore, who would then instantly Apparate to the mirror using his Phoenix.
To be honest, all the previous challenges were not much of a problem. Any reasonably skilled witch could have overcome them.
The real challenge was the final one, the one set by Dumbledore himself.
Setting aside the difficulty of unraveling the spatial magic Dumbledore had personally placed, what would happen if he succeeded?
Even the slightest magical manipulation or movement of the Mirror of Erised would trigger the warning magic.
Once the warning magic was triggered, Dumbledore would know immediately that someone was trying to steal the Philosopher's Stone.
In Hogwarts, where no witch could Apparate, only Dumbledore could instantly Apparate to the mirror using his Phoenix.
At that point, he would face the most powerful witch in the world, Dumbledore!
So, the final safeguard for the Philosopher's Stone was Dumbledore himself.
