Chapter 320: Ivan, You Big Liar!
Chapter 320: Ivan, You Big Liar!
"Ten thousand Galleons?" Aisha stared at Ivan in shock. That was no small amount. If it were a couple of years ago, it would have taken a magic shop years to save up that much.
"Right! Part of it I earned from the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, who is a complete fraud!" Ivan said.
"That Lockhart?" Aisha perked up, having seen some news about Lockhart in the Daily Prophet a few days ago, though she hadn't paid much attention to it.
Ivan nodded. "But the story is long, so let's walk and talk! It all started when I saw Lockhart at Flourish and Blotts."
"Alright, let's talk on the way!" Aisha smiled, then took Ivan's hand, listening to him as they walked toward the station exit.
Ivan slowly recounted the events of the previous school year, from seeing Harry and Ron in the flying car on the train, to winning the Quidditch Cup.
Ivan spoke a lot and in great detail. These were things he had wanted to share with Aisha when he returned home last year, but he hadn't had the chance.
In the distance, Hermione, hidden under her Invisibility Cloak, watched the mother and son walk out of the station, feeling a bit wistful. This was the first time she had seen Ivan so happy this year.
Hermione smiled softly and prepared to follow them quickly.
At that moment, a familiar voice rang out from nearby.
"Ivan, Harry, and Ron, don't forget to write to me this summer!"
Hermione turned her head sharply. At Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, a brown-haired young witch was waving to her friends, her eyes fixed on one of the boys.
"Of course, I promise!" The blonde boy smiled, and the brown-haired witch nodded in satisfaction before leaving with her father.
Hermione, hidden under the Invisibility Cloak, watched the scene, then pouted and huffed in mild annoyance.
"Liar!"
But seeing the blonde boy standing there, looking around, Hermione remembered how she had spent the entire summer waiting for a letter from Ivan. She smiled again. "It's your turn to wait!"
"Ah, they won't have gone far, right?" When Hermione turned back, she found that Ivan and Aisha were already gone from the station. She gasped and hurried after them, still under the Invisibility Cloak.
After Hermione left, at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, the young wizards laughed and left with their parents, leaving only a lone figure behind.
The blonde boy frowned, looking at the increasingly empty station, lost in thought.
Where is Aisha? Why hasn't she come yet?
Is she delayed by something?
The more he thought about it, the more he felt something was wrong. He wanted to go back, but he was afraid of missing Aisha.
Forget it, I'll wait a bit longer.
"So, Lockhart is an Obliviate master? He became famous by stealing other people's stories?"
As they walked through the bustling streets of London, Aisha listened to Ivan reveal the truth about Lockhart, surprised.
"Exactly", Ivan said with a smile, recounting some of the funny moments of Lockhart's failures at school, then continued.
"After I found out his secret, Lockhart begged me to make him some magical items so he could cast a couple of spells without being exposed too quickly."
"Then what? How much did you charge him?" Aisha was very curious.
"Two thousand five hundred Galleons for the first time!" Ivan said.
"First time?" Aisha’s expression was a bit strange.
"Of course, so there was a second time as well." Ivan told Aisha how Lockhart had recklessly challenged several headmasters at the Duelling Club and how he eventually begged Ivan for help.
Aisha was speechless when she heard this. She wondered how someone as vain and self-unaware as Lockhart had managed to maintain his facade for so long.
"I’ve always known that your headmaster is a bit crazy. Otherwise, why would he hire someone like that to teach Defense Against the Dark Arts?" Aisha said, clearly dissatisfied.
Ivan rolled his eyes. He thought Dumbledore simply had no other options.
After all, Voldemort had cursed the Defense Against the Dark Arts position for many years. The most skilled wizards in the magical world had either already held the position or had heard some unpleasant rumors.
At present, the only capable wizard who might still be interested in the position was Snape!
Ivan believed that Dumbledore was likely aware of the curse and thus avoided having Snape directly take on the role.
However, Ivan naturally wouldn’t discuss these matters with Aisha, just as he had deliberately avoided mentioning his conflict with Tom Riddle when recounting his experiences from the previous year.
He didn’t want Aisha to worry too much.
"By the way, Mom, how are the werewolf wizards in Knockturn Alley? Are they doing well?" Ivan suddenly asked.
"They’re the same as always, no real changes." Aisha casually replied. After Ivan left, she had conducted a rough investigation into the background of these werewolf wizards.
Indeed, as the werewolf leader had said, they had been struggling in mainland Europe and had fled here.
"Why do you ask?" Aisha was puzzled.
"I’m just curious why they never sent me any letters." Ivan said.
He remembered that during the last days of his first-year summer, he had asked the werewolf wizards to gather information about Knockturn Alley, but he hadn’t received a single letter all year.
Given that so many Dark Wizards had recently arrived in Knockturn Alley and were planning to attack Aisha, they couldn’t have been completely oblivious.
"I told them not to bother you!" Aisha patted Ivan’s head and smiled. "Since you’re at school, you should focus on your studies! It’s just some minor issues, I’ll handle them myself. Why worry about such things?"
A hint of helplessness flashed across Ivan’s face. He should have known that Aisha had intercepted the messages from the werewolf wizards.
However, from Aisha’s words, Ivan could tell that she was aware of Brock’s plans to deal with her, but she didn’t seem to take it seriously enough. She certainly didn’t know that Brock would have someone attack the Dark Magic Shop today.
Otherwise, there would have been werewolf wizards around the Dark Magic Shop, and Aisha wouldn’t have been so calm.
