Chapter 320: Holding Hands
Chapter 320: Holding Hands
Nie Zhan accompanied Lu Jiaxin on a shopping trip, but after half a day, he was exhausted and genuinely uninterested in the activity. "Jiaxin, let's go skiing tomorrow!" he suggested.
He had mentioned teaching her how to ski before their trip, and Lu Jiaxin was eager to give it a try. She smiled and nodded in agreement, "Alright, let's do it tomorrow."
Nie Zhan wanted to buy Lu Jiaxin a gift, so after lunch, he took her to the luxury shopping street. Romantic Country was home to many renowned luxury brands such as Hermes, Cartier, Chloe, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Boucheron.
They strolled through the luxurious brands, and Lu Jiaxin only purchased a brooch, while she bought Nie Zhan two ties and a belt.
Nie Zhan felt a bit helpless. While Feng Qinglei worried about credit card debt when taking his girlfriend shopping, he, on the other hand, had money to spend but couldn't seem to get Lu Jiaxin to accept his gifts. "You should buy some jewelry," he urged. "You can wear them when we attend gatherings together."
"When it comes to attending gatherings, you first choose a dress and then find matching jewelry," Lu Jiaxin explained. "Besides, I have natural beauty, so I look good even without jewelry."
Nie Zhan couldn't help but feel a little defeated. "Yes, my Jiaxin is the most beautiful even without any jewelry. But all the other women will be adorned with jewelry, and if you don't wear any, people will think I'm stingy and unwilling to buy jewelry for my girlfriend!"
"I'll buy some when I see something I like," Lu Jiaxin assured him.
Nie Zhan said, "When we return to Hong Kong, I'll get you a new car. The safety features of your current car are inadequate. Jiaxin, we can't skimp on this."
Hearing this, Lu Jiaxin couldn't help but remember the incident that earned her the nickname "Iron Rooster." She burst out laughing.
"Jiaxin, I must buy you the car," Nie Zhan insisted. "I don't want to be called Iron Rooster again."
This time, Lu Jiaxin didn't refuse. She smiled and agreed, realizing that he had likely been more affected by the media's harsh words than he had let on.
Nie Zhan also asked about her living arrangements when they returned to Hong Kong, knowing that she valued her independence and wouldn't want to stay at the Gu residence. To be honest, he wasn't comfortable with the idea of her staying there either.
Lu Jiaxin had already thought about this. She planned to buy a house next year, but staying in a hotel indefinitely wasn't ideal either. So, she intended to rent a villa.
Nie Zhan owned several properties and wouldn't have minded giving her one. However, he knew that Jiaxin wouldn't accept it, so he suggested, "If you want to rent, look for a house in Caldwell Hills. The houses there have gardens, and when we get back to Hong Kong, I'll take you to see them. If you like it, we can rent one."
He made this suggestion because he noticed that Lu Jiaxin favored the color green, even using "green" as her designer alias. So, the standalone garden houses in Caldwell Hills would be perfect for her. He had a friend who rented there previously, and he thought it was quite nice, but unfortunately, the villas there were only for rent and not for sale.
Lu Jiaxin nodded in agreement. If it were luxury houses in other locations, they might have been Nie Zhan's, but the properties in Caldwell Hills belonged to the Kadoorie family, and they only rented them out.
As the two walked and talked, their arms accidentally brushed against each other. It was summer, and they were both wearing short sleeves, causing their skin to touch. Nie Zhan stiffened, then snapped back to attention and looked at Lu Jiaxin. Seeing that she seemed unaffected, he hesitated.
Lu Jiaxin noticed his reaction and found it amusing. He didn't seem like a 27-year-old business elite but rather an inexperienced young man who had never been in love. However, she knew that she wouldn't take the initiative in such matters, as most men preferred women to be reserved.
When their arms brushed against each other again, Nie Zhan boldly took Lu Jiaxin's hand in his. Seeing her glance at him, he suppressed his nervousness and said, "I want to hold your hand as we walk."
His palms were sweaty, yet he pretended to be nonchalant. Lu Jiaxin lowered her head to hide her smile, not wanting to laugh out loud.
Nie Zhan misinterpreted her reaction, thinking that she was feeling shy. Yes, it might be awkward at first, but they would get used to it.
Qian Xiao Xiao, who was following behind them, saw their intertwined hands and whispered to Gu Wenfeng, "Brother Feng, Sister Xin and Third Young Master Nie look so good together!"
The handsome man and beautiful woman indeed made a striking couple, and their affection for each other was evident. Moreover, Nie Zhan treated Lu Jiaxin exceptionally well, always accommodating her wishes.
Gu Wenfeng remained silent, as he believed that Lu Jiaxin should focus on her studies at her age rather than romance. However, he understood her personality, so he kept his thoughts to himself. His task was to protect Lu Jiaxin, and as long as she was safe, he wouldn't interfere in other matters.
Nie Zhan felt exhausted after accompanying Lu Jiaxin shopping in the morning, but strangely, he didn't feel tired at all when they walked hand in hand in the afternoon.
After walking around all day, they returned to their hotel for dinner and some rest. Lu Jiaxin retired to her room early, and when she met Nie Zhan again the next day, she received yet another gift from him.
Nie Zhan presented a watch to her and said with a smile, "I ordered this a few days ago, and it just arrived today. Jiaxin, take a look and tell me if you like it."
It was a diamond-studded Patek Philippe watch with a unique design. Lu Jiaxin adored it and exclaimed, "Yesterday you gave me a luxury car, and today it's a designer watch. I don't have to do anything and can just keep receiving gifts from you. I'll be set for life!"
Nie Zhan laughed and said, "Don't talk about mine and yours. From now on, everything I have is yours."
These words were more touching than any sweet nothings, proving that a man could be romantic if he truly cared.
After receiving two significant gifts from Nie Zhan, Lu Jiaxin contemplated reciprocating with a thoughtful gift of her own. It wasn't about the price but the meaning behind it. Hmm, this required some serious thought.
Noticing her pensive expression, Nie Zhan said, "If you're thinking of returning the favor with a gift, don't bother. Your money is in the stock market, and with the current bullish trend, it would be a shame to sell now."
Lu Jiaxin feigned surprise and asked, "Nie Zhan, can you read minds? How did you know what I was thinking?"
Nie Zhan chuckled at her transparency. Her thoughts were written all over her face, so there was no need for mind-reading. "Just spend more time with me on weekends when we get back, and I'll be happy," he said.
Lu Jiaxin smiled softly, "That's a very low bar."
Nie Zhan joked, "It might be a low bar for others, but for a busy person like you, it's not so easy."
Lu Jiaxin explained that last year, she had to focus on her exams, which were crucial for her future. "I won't be as busy once I start university, and I can spend Sundays with you. Oh, I heard that golf and equestrian skills are essential in high society, so I'll have to learn those too."
Nie Zhan was taken aback, "You're not planning to run a company anymore?"
Lu Jiaxin shook her head, indicating that she had no such plans for the time being. She felt no need to push herself too hard, preferring to take a slower approach to her career. After all, she was only 18 and had plenty of time.
Nie Zhan thought her perspective was reasonable. When he entered university, he had also focused on his studies during the first year before taking on a part-time job in his second year.
