Chapter 32: Elder Lev
Chapter 32: Elder Lev
As the words fell, several figures emerged from behind walls and alleyways, each armed and with hostile expressions, surrounding Karl in the center.
Including the stall owner, there were six of them.
"I didn't expect that the girl Aya could actually find some help," said a man with a bare upper body, revealing his muscular build. He held a large cleaver, dragging it on the ground as he walked.
With each step, the sharp blade left a shallow mark on the frozen mud.
An invisible pressure descended upon them.
This man was likely the leader of the group.
"Help?" Karl frowned upon hearing this.
"It seems there's some misunderstanding between us."
"Misunderstanding?" The stall owner scoffed, "Once we're out of the market, what misunderstanding could there be?"
"Even if we're not the girl's helpers, we can't let this go to waste. Hand over what you have on you!"
As he spoke, he reached out to grab Karl.
His slender build belied his quickness, and by the time he finished speaking, he had already moved from the crowd to stand before Karl.
Moreover, he used a clever grip, and a faint cold light flickered on his five fingers, which were adorned with sharp finger guards.
If he grabbed Karl, he could easily tear off a piece of flesh.
In the Black City, survival was not easy, and for them, looting and killing were everyday occurrences.
Hmph!
Karl snorted coldly.
He was no longer an ordinary person without any foundation; even surrounded by several people, he remained calm.
Facing the approaching claws, he flipped his palm, avoiding the finger guards and slapping out in response.
Bang!
Their palms clashed.
The stall owner felt an immense force surge through his arm, causing him to lose balance momentarily, and his expression changed, "Knight Attendant..."
"Wooh!"
The low whistle of the broadsword interrupted his shout, and he immediately felt intense pain in his abdomen, causing him to fly backward.
"How dare you!"
"Kill him!"
"All together!"
In an instant, the stall owner was slashed away, and the others had not even had time to react.
Amidst the roars, the group charged forward.
Karl raised his left hand and snapped his fingers lightly.
Light Spell!
Instantly, a blinding light illuminated the entire area.
For those who had spent years in the shadows, light was their nemesis.
Especially since they were intently watching Karl's movements, they had nowhere to escape, and in that moment, they all lost their vision, their faces filled with panic.
Not good!
The leader's heart raced, but he didn't retreat; instead, he advanced.
"Ah!"
He roared and charged towards Karl's position, relying on his memory, while wildly swinging his cleaver.
The cleaver tore through the air, and the blade trembled rapidly, revealing a combat technique.
"Sss..."
It was as if he had slashed into thick mucus, and an invisible resistance appeared out of thin air, surprising the leader.
What was this?
Zero-Circle Spell - Lesser Force Field!
Karl consecutively cast two spells, taking advantage of the others' inability to react, and the broadsword's light flashed repeatedly.
Puff!
Puff! Puff!
In the blink of an eye, two people fell to the ground.
However, the leader's large cleaver was already within striking distance, forcing Karl to block with his sword, holding it horizontally before him.
Clash...
What immense strength!
The leader's strength was likely even greater than the previous red-haired man, but his combat skills were rather lacking.
Furious Strike!
Plow Style!
Fool Style!
Karl brandished his broadsword, unleashing a series of slashes with the Gale Sword Technique, the clanging of metal echoing like a torrential downpour.
"Ah!"
The leader roared skyward, his strength erupting as he forced back the attack, and his vision gradually cleared.
As long as he could see!
As long as his vision returned!
He...
Whoosh!
Several afterimages appeared out of thin air.
Combat Technique - Gale Slash!
Under the influence of the Lesser Force Field, Karl's burst of power was comparable to that of a peak-level Knight Attendant.
Meanwhile, his opponents couldn't even discern the direction of the attacks.
Puff!
The sword shadow slashed across the leader's waist and thighs, leaving deep bone-exposing gashes, and his body lost balance.
One wrong step, and all was lost.
Karl, wielding the broadsword, pursued relentlessly, the sword shadows raining down like a storm, and the leader's face turned desperate.
Even if his vision had recovered by now, it wouldn't change anything.
"Ah!"
With a cry, the leader's robust body collapsed to the ground.
Karl turned around, about to chase after the remaining two, when he noticed something and halted.
Just as the two were about to escape, over a dozen arrows suddenly shot out from the darkness, piercing the unprepared pair with deadly precision.

"Uncle!"
Xiaonan, holding a crossbow, leaped forward and waved excitedly at Karl:
"We're here too."
Figures emerged from the darkness, including Aya with a look of surprise, and behind her, an elder.
The elder, gazing at Karl, gently tapped his staff:
"Karl, the esteemed friend Aya spoke of, we finally meet."
Black City,
A place abundant with abandoned houses.
After clearing away the dust, everyone found seats in the hall.
Aya gestured to the elder:
"Uncle Karl, this is Grandpa Lev. Xiaonan and I owe so much to him these past years; otherwise, we would have perished long ago."
"This is..."
She turned to the woman behind the elder and said:
"Eve, my specially invited helper."
Karl nodded.
Aya had brought quite a few people, but almost all of them were ordinary folks. Only Eve possessed a certain level of strength.
To be honest,
If not for Karl, it would be uncertain whether Aya's group could ultimately repel their opponents.
"Eve Dorn."
Eve, her eyes cautious as she looked at Karl:
"It's a pleasure to meet you."
"The pleasure is mine," Karl smiled, then turned to Aya:
"I never expected you to gather so many people to help."
Unbeknownst to them, Aya had attracted such a crowd, establishing a certain influence, no longer the starving stall owner she once was.
"They are all friends I knew before," Aya replied:
"When they heard my stall was taken, they came to help."
"Speaking of which, we are also grateful for your goods, which have made our lives more bearable during this Winter Moon."
"Karl."
Elder Lev spoke softly:
"Aya, being a young girl, is easily bullied. Like this time, someone wanted to forcefully buy out the market stalls. If not for your intervention, who knows what the outcome would have been."
"Hmm..."
"If you have any needs, please don't hesitate to ask. We will do whatever we can."
"Please don't stand on ceremony."
As he spoke, Elder Lev rose with a trembling gesture of respect, but no one objected.
They were well aware.
Aya's current status and their ability to eat and stay warm were all thanks to Karl's support behind the scenes.
Moreover, witnessing Karl's strength firsthand, they felt a sense of awe, believing that associating with him would bring better prospects for their future.
Their gathering was not due to Elder Lev's prestige or Aya's unique charisma, but because of Karl.
"You are too kind, sir."
Karl shook his head:
"I just happened to be there; it's nothing. You are of advanced age, please sit, let's talk while seated."
He did not promise anything.
Black City was vast, but Aya was too weak.
Looking around, he saw only the elderly, the weak, and the disabled, who were unlikely to provide sufficient help. They could engage in trade, but it was best not to bind themselves together.
Elder Lev was aware of this, and his expression changed slightly, then he said:
"Aya mentioned that you are collecting Breath Techniques?"
"Indeed." Karl's eyes lit up:
"Do you possess Breath Techniques?"
"I do, but..." Elder Lev looked troubled:
"The Breath Technique I have cannot be passed on. However, I can teach you a martial skill."
Martial skill?
Karl frowned.
While he was interested in martial skills, his enthusiasm had diminished after encountering the world of wizards. Even Breath Techniques had become less important, and martial skills were dispensable.
Noticing Karl's changing expression, Elder Lev clenched his teeth and said:
"Aside from martial skills, I also have some knowledge of Spell Seals."
Spell Seals!
Karl's eyes sparkled.
