Chapter 319: Is My Charm Really That Bad?
Chapter 319: Is My Charm Really That Bad?
Kuro led his Navy squad out of Tui Town under CP3's guidance, with Navy soldiers trailing behind.
"Kuro Commander, could you please walk a bit faster!"
CP3 Squad Leader Naruga turned his head toward Kuro, who was strolling leisurely through the wilderness. His voice carried a sharp edge. "If you dawdle, the Revolutionary Army might escape."
"Relax", Kuro waved dismissively. "That group never gives up until they achieve their goals. They must have business in this country. They won't leave without completing their mission."
Naruga countered, "Those people are cunning. Most of their operatives are at the frontline, inciting soldiers there. That's why many Luo Family members rushed to the frontlines. However, we've received intelligence that they also have people in the rear."
"This is precisely why we must speed up and arrest them as soon as possible."
Kuro's eyebrows lifted. No wonder only one Luo Family member appeared in Tui Town - they had all gone to the frontlines. With Tui Town lacking armed resistance, the Naval Auxiliary Army could operate unhindered.
As for arresting the Revolutionary Army?
He'd rather not.
Only Admiral Sengoku's direct orders made him participate in this farce.
Let them chase their Revolutionary Army while he enjoyed his leisurely stroll. Mutual non-interference.
If forced to act, he'd swing his sword a few times and then lie down pretending to be injured.
This trick was second nature to him after years of practice.
Would others believe it? He believed it himself.
Seeing Kuro's nonchalant attitude, Naruga clenched his fist and swallowed his anger.
If given a choice, he'd rather conscript regular Navy personnel. But with no Navy station in this country and no time to mobilize forces from distant bases, he had to work with this man.
He'd initially hoped Lucius Kro would be more cooperative since they were dealing with World Government enemies. How wrong he was.
He'd have already reprimanded anyone else.
But this man...
He was Admiral Lucius Kro's direct subordinate with an unusually close relationship. There were even rumors he was Lucius Kro's illegitimate son! Judging from the casual demeanor, the rumors might hold water.
Besides, he was a promising young officer favored by Navy leadership. Unless some disaster occurred, he'd surely rise to prominence. Best not to provoke him.
Most importantly - Naruga couldn't beat him.
Why did the Navy have so many monsters while CP had limited strongmen?
Fuming silently, Naruga pressed forward.
As squad leader, he had to endure. The other CP3 agents naturally followed suit. Ordinary operatives without rank, they'd fall under Kuro's command by protocol. They dared not harbor rebellious thoughts.
"What a beautiful scenery here", Kuro admired the surroundings.
Mountainous terrain, clear streams, and peaceful trails stretched before them. Fresh air swept through grasslands, ripples dancing on the water like crystal springs. On both banks of the stream, deep green hills cradled jade-clear waters with gentle murmurs that calmed the heart.
Several plump rabbits and deer bent to drink at the stream. As the group approached, the animals merely glanced at them before resuming their drinking.
"Wow, so fat!" Lida paused mid-chew of his potato chips, his mouth watering. "Kuro, I bet their meat must be tender."
Bet? More like you're drooling!
Kuro nodded, studying the animals. "They are indeed plump and fearless. Klah, shoot a couple for snacks."
Klah: "..."
With so many subordinates present, why always me? I may be your right-hand man, but don't literally use me as your arm!
"Yes", Klah sighed, stepping forward to prepare the hunt.
"Kuro Commander!"
Naruga couldn't hold back. "Please focus on the mission!"
"My stomach's growling. How can I arrest the Revolutionary Army on an empty stomach?" Kuro retorted. "Hunting takes minutes. You should know - hunting cultivates one's character. Look, someone shares my sentiment and came hunting too."
He gestured toward the left forest.
Whoosh!
As Kuro pointed, a wisp of light flashed through the air and pierced straight through a deer's skull.
The arrow embedded halfway into the deer's head, its iron tip protruding. The shaft, though straight, was crudely crafted from plain wood, bearing visible hand-carved textures.
From the forest emerged a woman.
She wore a patched but neatly white blouse and red wide-legged pants. Her princess-cut hairstyle cascaded like a waterfall. Delicate yet resolute features framed dark eyes shining like pearls.
Oh! A gentle beauty.
She held a rough-hewn longbow with a primitive quiver slung across her back. Emerging, she hadn't even registered her successful kill before spotting Kuro's group.
Kuro raised a hand with a grin. "Yo, hello there, beauty."
The woman's face shifted from shock to fear. Then she turned and fled into the forest, vanishing instantly.
Kuro's raised hand froze mid-greeting. He twitched a smile toward Lida. "Is my charm really that bad?"
He merely greeted her, yet she abandoned her prey in terror?
"Who knows?" Lida munched potato chips, hiding a smirk.
Seemed he enjoyed the scene.
"Insect Country's law prohibits poaching!" Naruga stared at the fleeing woman. "But let's focus on the Revolutionary Army first. I'll report this later."
"Hold on", Kuro's eyebrows furrowed. "What did you mean?"
"All wildlife in Insect Country belongs to the nobility", Naruga explained. "Commoners can't claim ownership. Even the Navy must respect allied nations' sovereignty, guaranteed by the World Government. That woman violated Insect Country's laws. As World Government staff, I must report this - my duty."
Kuro stared at Naruga, then suddenly turned toward the forest.
"Klah, take that deer. We're going."
"Kuro Commander, intelligence confirms the Revolutionary Army isn't in that direction. Follow my lead", Naruga urged.
Kuro ignored him, striding deeper.
"Bring the deer", Klah adjusted his glasses, instructing subordinates as he followed.
Lida swallowed the last chip, obediently trailing like a gentle streamside rabbit.
