Chapter 319: From Hell
Chapter 319: From Hell
"Yugi Muto, is it?"
The undead figure raised his Duel Disk, a sinister smile spreading across his face.
"And you are?" Yugi asked, a hint of confusion in his voice. He had intended to inquire about the stranger's background, but the sight of the Duel Disk erased all doubt from his mind.
Did it matter who this person was? Not at all.
What mattered was that there was another duel to be had.
"I understand, you're one of the tournament duelists," Yugi mused, rubbing his nose. "Well then, bring it on! I always give it my all from start to finish!"
The undead duelist narrowed his eyes, a peculiar laugh escaping his lips.
"Duel!" they both exclaimed, simultaneously activating their Duel Disks and drawing five cards each.
Yugi: Life Points 4000
Undead Duelist: Life Points 4000
"I'll take the first turn," the undead duelist said, drawing a card. A chilling laugh escaped his lips. "How fortunate to draw this card right at the start. It seems the gods are urging me to finish you off quickly, so I shall oblige."
He drew a card from his hand, his eyes flashing with an eerie green light.
"I activate a Field Spell Card: Orichalcos Barrier!"
Yugi's pupils contracted, his smile vanishing in an instant.
It was that card!
Having faced Doma's swordsmen alongside Yugi Mutou, Yugi was all too familiar with the implications of this card's activation.
This duel would not merely be about winning or losing; it was a matter of life and death. The loser of this duel would forfeit their soul.
Yugi: "You..."
The barrier expanded, green light shooting towards the sky. The undead duelist narrowed his eyes, a six-pointed star reflected on his forehead, his robe billowing as if stirred by the surging green aura.
"Oh, so you recognize the Orichalcos Barrier. In that case, I need not explain further. It's too late for you to realize the gravity of the situation, and there's no escape now."
The undead duelist cackled with malicious glee.
"Very soon, you will come to know the power of my Hell Deck, forged by integrating the tactics of legendary duelists and my own infernal creations!"
Yugi: "This sounds vaguely familiar somehow."
"I'll set one monster in face-down defense mode and set two cards face-down," the undead duelist said with a cold smile. "My turn is over."
Yugi took a deep breath.
"My turn! Draw!"
This was no ordinary duel.
He anxiously scanned the green light rippling within the enclosed barrier that surrounded them.
Losing in this arena meant death.
Yugi's expression turned solemn.
He would have to be at the top of his game.
"I summon 'Elemental Hero Sparkman'!"
Elemental Hero Sparkman: ATK 1600
"Sparkman, attack his face-down monster!"
The Elemental Hero, clad in a blue bodysuit, soared through the air, lightning swirling in his palm. It coalesced into a blue spear of electricity that pierced through the air.
"I activate a face-down card, a Continuous Trap Card: Super Gravity Net!"
The undead duelist flipped a card on his side of the field, and an invisible wave of gravity surged from the Trap Card, enveloping the entire arena.
"The effect of Super Gravity Net prevents all monsters of four stars and above from attacking."
Yugi furrowed his brows slightly.
His attacks were blocked, just like in his duel with Yugi Mutou, by a similar trap.
"I activate a Quick-Play Spell Card: Premature Burial, which allows me to Special Summon a monster from my hand in face-up Attack Position." Yugi revealed another Elemental Hero in his hand.
"I Normal Summon 'Elemental Hero Wildman'!"
Elemental Hero Wildman: ATK 1500
"Wildman, attack his face-down monster!"
The wild Elemental Hero brandished his sword, charging forward in defiance of the gravitational restraints. He unleashed a domineering wave of energy, cleaving towards the face-down monster.
"So that's how it is. Wildman possesses the power to ignore traps."
"Indeed, 'Elemental Hero Wildman' is unaffected by any trap effects, allowing him to attack even while 'Super Gravity Net' is in effect."
The Undead narrowed his eyes and let out a strange, mocking laugh.
"Do you really think it will be that easy?"
The facedown monster was flipped over, revealing a small, white creature. Elemental Hero Wildman's slash landed true, but it only sank into the creature, and a strong elastic force bounced him back. The recoil sent the blade rebounding towards Wildman's own head, and the force of the impact caused him to stumble backward.
"The monster you attacked is 'Cottonball,'" the Undead explained. "Cottonball cannot be destroyed in battle. Furthermore, when this card is attacked, your opponent takes 1000 points of rebound damage."
[Jaden: LP 4000 → LP 3000]
"Ugh!"
Jaden staggered back half a step, shaken by the force of the shockwave.
"Ah, I've been played..."
He glanced at his hand, thinking hard, and selected another card.
"Then I'll set one card. End turn."
"Hehe, end of turn, is it?"
The Undead let out an even more sinister cackle.
"What's so funny?"
Jaden was taken aback, suddenly realizing that something was amiss.
Within the green barrier, an eerie atmosphere began to permeate the air.
At first, it sounded like the wind, but it gradually transformed into the whispers of the dead. The chilly wind seemed to carry countless ghosts, swirling around him. There were murmurs, sobs, and sharp laughter.
Jaden's eyes widened as he thought he could truly see them.
Transparent, white ghosts with faces twisted by deep resentment and unwillingness, their hollow eye sockets resembling abyssal pits of hatred.
Between his palms, a letter appeared.
A strange, flickering "D" floated before him.
Jaden instantly recognized what it was.
Although he was a poor student who never paid attention in class, he was obsessed with the early legends of Duel Monsters. He owned a collection of the legendary Duel City's discs, watching every match from the Top 8 onwards.
So, of course, he immediately recognized which tactic this was -
- The Spirit Message!
The tactic used by the legendary duelist, Mako Tsunami, who had faced Yugi Muto in the Duel City tournament and nearly won if not for Yugi's last-turn miracle.
Of course, Jaden and his classmates were unaware that the Mako they knew from the tournament was actually the final boss of Duel Monsters, the Great Evil God, Zorc. In the Egypt saga, Zorc had consecutively defeated the three Egyptian God Cards, Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon, Ultimate Dragon Knight, and even the Dark Magician, before ultimately falling to the God of Light's cleansing power.
However, those events were never made public; they remained secrets known only to the protagonist group who had ventured into Egypt. The outside world, for the most part, was oblivious to the fact that their entire dimension had once been threatened by an apocalyptic dark lord.
"Indeed, it is the very same tactic used by the legendary duelist," the Undead cackled. "With New Doma's technology, we can perfectly replicate even these rare and discontinued card sets.
And now, the countdown to your death has begun.
Spirit Message activates, allowing me to place a 'Death Message' card from my hand or deck face-down in my Spell & Trap Zone in the correct sequence during your End Phase.
And the next Death Message that will lead to your demise is this card."
A new evil spirit appeared on his field, holding a new letter in its hand.
".Death Message E!"
