Chapter 318: The Beginning of the Battle
Chapter 318: The Beginning of the Battle
“Lord Cassius, let us accompany you.”
“That old silver dragon is cunning, deceitful, and full of tricks. He might lead his apprentices to ambush you!”
The blue dragon clung persistently to Cassius’ claw, pleading desperately.
During this, Christina turned her head to taunt the white dragon following Cassius with utmost devotion.
“Rua!”
“You vile she-dragon, are you trying to provoke me? Do you think you’re worthy of touching our master?”
Tinia arched her body like a furious cat, spreading her wings and growling angrily at the blue dragon.
However, this played right into the blue dragon’s provocation.
Christina sneered disdainfully and said mercilessly:
“Look, what you need are reliable allies like us, not a stupid white dragon who can’t even control her basic emotions.”
“Grr…”
The white dragon growled lowly, her expression growing increasingly ferocious.
She wanted nothing more than to leap forward and tear the foul-mouthed blue dragon to shreds, but she couldn’t find the words to retort.
If she did charge—
Wouldn’t that just validate the blue dragon’s claims?
If that led to her master’s disdain or disgust, or worse, being “demoted” in favor, it would be a disaster.
“One day, I’ll tear her mouth apart.”
With this thought, Tinia swallowed her anger, silently vowing to remember the slight.
Cassius impatiently shook his claw, flinging the annoying blue dragon aside:
“Enough. I’ll allow you to come along too, for the sake of Her Majesty the Dragon Queen.”
“But without my orders, you are absolutely forbidden to act on your own.”
“Yes, Lord Cassius!”
“It is our honor to serve you.”
Christina quickly scrambled to her feet, elated.
She had exhausted every trick in the book, disregarding her blue dragon dignity to use every conceivable tactic, finally getting this aloof red dragon to relent slightly.
But now that there was an opening—
Could she push her advantage further?
With this in mind, Christina’s imagination ran wild, her eyes gleaming.
In a coquettish tone, she said:
“Since you’ve agreed to this, then perhaps Her Majesty’s decree…”
“Leave.”
Cassius’s cold voice interrupted her.
He left without hesitation, his wings sweeping away, leaving the blue dragon flustered in the wind.
“Insensitive brute.”
“But… I seem to smell rain. It’s reminiscent of the stench of those silver dragons.”
“How peculiar. Could this be an illusion?”
Christina gazed at the crimson figure streaking across the sky like a shooting star. Gritting her teeth, she eventually flapped her wings and followed from a distance.
Twelve blue dragons appeared one after another, trailing Christina and forming an imposing blue dragon formation.
The cold wind howled, and snowflakes fluttered down.
The Innaki and Orlyr Rivers continued to flow silently, their surfaces dotted with melting snowflakes turning into icy water.
The north wind brought fresh snow to the Okagral Plains again, while soldiers on the riverbanks remained busy, digging trenches and building bunkers, nervously preparing for the imminent battle.
But the players seemed indifferent, some even humming tunes cheerfully as if the war that would decide the fate of the Northland had nothing to do with them.
Many players couldn’t help but look up and admire the snowy landscape.
“What a beautiful snowy view…”
“Seeing scenery like this makes a slower early game worth it.”
“Yeah, definitely.”
“Huh? Weird, why do I hear music?”
“And why does it sound familiar, like ‘Empire of Angels’?”
“Does this game even have BGM like that?”
“And, hey, do you feel like the ground is shaking?”
“An earthquake?”
“No, look over there—”
Following the players’ and soldiers’ exclamations, a massive army appeared in the distance.
The skies and ground were filled with the armies of the Scorching Ember Kingdom, a multicolored torrent emerging on the once-white snowy plain.
Swarms of wyverns filled the skies like thick clouds, their chaotic wings casting shadows over half the heavens.
On the ground, massive armored land dragons lumbered forward, each step making the earth tremble, turning the plains into rolling mini-mountains.
Hobgoblins and tieflings marched in precise formation with shiny new rifles, while ogres dragged heavy cannons, panting heavily but with eyes full of excitement.
Groups of Dragon-Oath Paladins carrying massive shields gathered, surrounded by a crimson aura so intense it seemed to ignite the air.
Rhythmic drumbeats continued relentlessly, accompanied by a majestic melody played by satyr military bands. The symphony of fate resonated across the vast plains, heightening the tension of the impending battle.
Across the twin rivers, soldiers and Northland nobles stared at the terrifying army in shock. Some even fainted on the spot.
“By the gods…”
“How is there such an army?”
“This… this doesn’t match the reports at all.”
“How are we supposed to defeat this?”
Despite the immense pressure, the troops gathered on the Okagral Plains were the absolute elite of the Northland’s combined forces. They maintained their composure and did not succumb to widespread panic.
Among the 50,000 soldiers stationed here, the majority were private armies maintained by various Northland nobles. Many were retainer knights, bound by deep interests and loyalties to their noble lords.
Even surrender wouldn’t promise them a better outcome.
Hence, the soldiers here displayed extraordinary resolve.
Despite enduring numerous rounds of “Cassius speeches”, the number of defectors and deserters barely exceeded a hundred—a remarkable figure considering Loren’s army had lost two-thirds to desertion.
Duke Leo gazed at the enemy forces in the distance, raising his greatsword high as he roared with leonine might:
“They are nothing more than savage, crude monsters!”
“Soldiers, remember! We Scanians are invincible!”
“And we have even stronger allies who will rout them utterly!”
As he spoke, Asmo the Celestial swung his radiant silver sword.
Cloud giants, pegasi, feathered serpents, celestial eagles, greatwinged angels, justiciars of light, and other beings soared into the skies above the southern riverbank, facing off against the wyverns and chimeras amassing across the rivers.
On the ground, shielded justiciars, armored guardians, celestial lions, elven druids, and others fortified the southern riverbank with an imposing presence.
These were reinforcements from the Celestial Mount and Druid Groves. Though their numbers were few, their power was immense, surpassing even the Dragonblood Nobles of the Ember Kingdom.
The extraordinary presence of these allies inspired the allied human forces, boosting their morale.
Cries of “For the Bosk Duchy!” echoed across the southern riverbank.
