Chapter 318: Invading the Brain Cells (18)
"Hmph..." Magic Mirror exhaled deeply. "As I said earlier, you've passed two trials." His gaze shifted slightly, focusing beyond Feng Bu Jue onto the bathroom door. "The third trial—'benevolence'—is simple. You just need to make a choice."
"What are the options?" Feng Bu Jue asked.
"Pardon or slaughter", Mo Jing replied.
"May I ask the chance of victory if I choose slaughter?" Feng Bu Jue inquired.
"It's hard to say... They're ghosts with intense resentment", Mo Jing answered.
"They?" Feng Bu Jue frowned. "There's more than one?"
"Yes", Mo Jing confirmed.
"Then how exactly does 'pardon' work?" Feng Bu Jue pressed.
"That's what I'm about to explain", Mo Jing said.
Feng Bu Jue understood immediately. Solving the shower curtain puzzle and enduring the mirror's terror had earned him Mo Jing's guidance. Otherwise, he'd have to confront "them" head-on by opening the door, triggering combat.
"There are three ghosts outside", Mo Jing continued. "They're characters from the same fairy tale—Cinderella's Stepmother and her two daughters. In the original story, they were ten-point villains who deserved their tragic endings. Yet people still despise them, as if their fate wasn't cruel enough." Mo Jing paused. "When you open the door, they'll appear. You must immediately say, 'I don't hate you.'"
"They won't attack if I say that?" Feng Bu Jue asked.
"Not immediately", Mo Jing replied. "Next, you must praise their virtues to convince them of your compassion. Then they'll leave."
"May I ask who they are?" Feng Bu Jue inquired.
"Cinderella's Stepmother and the Stepmother's Two Daughters", Mo Jing answered.
Feng Bu Jue stared blankly at the mirror, blinked, then muttered, "Oh." Without another word, he silently summoned his death poker.
He pulled the latch, twisted the lock, and opened the bathroom door in five seconds.
The living room was dark, curtains drawn, but artificial light spilled from the bathroom, illuminating the area.
As Feng Bu Jue stepped into the living room, three translucent ghosts materialized abruptly.
The middle spirit appeared forty-something, her sharp, cruel features softened by neither age nor death. Flanking her were her daughters—equally beautiful but grotesquely maimed. One eye socket oozed blood down their dresses, and their deformed feet dripped crimson with every step.
Feng Bu Jue recalled their fate: to fit into the Glass Slipper, the sisters had sliced off their big toes and heels, then were blinded by pigeons.
"I don't hate you", he recited.
The words acted as a charm. The ghosts hesitated, scrutinizing him.
"But you've ruined my floor... Unforgivable. Die, bitches!" Feng Bu Jue lunged, his seven death poker cards fanning into a radiant arc—a Light Blade cleaving through the air.
The surprise strike instantly eradicated the stepmother's ghost. But as he turned, twin spectral claws raked his body.
The daughters moved like razors—blindingly fast, phasing through walls. Within seconds, Feng Bu Jue bled from a dozen wounds. Only his Soul Intent shielded him from fatal blows.
"They're pure spirit entities. Physical attacks are useless", Feng Bu Jue analyzed, dodging. "This cramped living room plays to their strengths... They phase through walls, evading my death poker's tracking. So..."
He shifted stance, crouching low, focusing on one target while ignoring the other.
A claw tore his back, but he ignored the pain, fixating on a wall.
In a flash, he sprang forward, activating death poker's shield special effect. Ten cards vanished, conjuring a golden barrier.
The targeted ghost collided with the psionic wall—something she couldn't phase through. Staggering midair, her speed crippled.
Feng Bu Jue seized the moment. Gritting his teeth, he used his injured leg to brace his leap, dual-wielding two cards. A dozen radiant slashes erupted mid-air.
The ghost disintegrated.
"Done", Feng Bu Jue muttered, kneeling. He glanced at his game menu—24% vitality remaining.
The last ghost posed no threat. One-on-one, she couldn't touch him, wall-phasing or not.
Within a minute, he eliminated her too.
Checking his status, he hesitated briefly before consuming a *-500 pill, curing his bleeding and fractures. Returning to the bathroom, he faced Mo Jing.
"Brother mercifully granted them liberation."
