Chapter 317: Lucy Ha...
Chapter 317: Lucy Ha...
Two busy days passed in a flash.
The good news was that the Guild Master had indeed written a self-reflection, but the bad news was that Rod had lost his bet.
Happy and Worm were enjoying a feast of fish and Poro delicacies on a small, specially-made low table by Lachi.
This time, they were joined by a new companion, Pru, who was pure white with an ice cream cone-like pointed nose and a round head, resembling a little snowman.
He was a Celestial Spirit, Nicora of the Small Dog Constellation, whom Lucy named Pru.
Like Worm, Pru had a very low magical consumption, allowing even Lucy to maintain his presence for extended periods. Thus, she had always kept him as a pet.
At the counter, Lucy was complaining to Mira about Natsu.
"Ah, what a pity! It was such a rare opportunity to earn enough for the rent in one go!"
Mira wiped a glass with a dry cloth, "Did the mission not go well?"
Lucy leaned on the counter, her face squished against the bear, which was also flattened, and she grumbled, "It wasn't exactly unsuccessful since we completed all the tasks. But during the confrontation with the thieves, Natsu accidentally broke a necklace, and we were immediately deducted 100,000 J!"
"Oh dear, oh dear..." Mira offered a sympathetic smile.
Lucy sat up, ruffling her hair in frustration, "A hundred thousand! It's like the hunting mission was all for nothing!"
"So, the hunting mission went well?"
Lucy sighed, "Yeah, we managed to defeat that leopard. But Natsu always goes overboard in battles. If it weren't for Mr. Rod's advice to be prepared for fires, I feel like the entire mountain would have been burned down."
"That does sound like something Natsu would do." Mira paused, then asked, "Did you need Aquarius to put out the fire?"
"Yes, before the fight even started, we found a place with water..." Lucy laid down on the counter again, ungracefully covering her buttocks.
"We managed to put out the fire, but I got scolded by Aquarius for summoning her in a muddy pond. It was so embarrassing... I still feel the sting in my buttocks."
"Do you need an ice pack?" Gray offered, his palms emitting a cold aura.
"Pervert, that's a subtle form of sexual harassment!"
"I just want to see Lucy's red buttocks."
"That's blatant sexual harassment!"
"Hurrr..."
"Pru~ Pru~"
"Worm and Pru, don't learn bad habits from that smelly cat!"
Despite the complaints and commotion, it was clear that Lucy was in good spirits.
The two missions earned them a total of 250,000 J, but with the deduction of 100,000 J, they ended up with 150,000 J. Lucy could claim 50,000 J for herself.
Although she hadn't gathered enough for the rent yet, she could earn the remaining amount by taking on a simpler job.
Rod pondered the lost bet, wondering what kind of mischief he would face.
He was also pleased for Lucy, as earning over half the reward while teaming up with Natsu was quite an achievement. This girl had a promising future.
Rod glanced at Makarov, who was dozing off nearby. If it were the Guild Master, he would have asked at this point, "Do you enjoy this kind of work?"
The question slipped out of Rod's mouth, and Makarov opened his eyes halfway to look at him. The more he looked at this kid, the more he liked him.
"Despite the unexpected incident, I enjoyed it because it was so exciting!"
Lucy exclaimed excitedly, "Miss Mira, do you know? The jewelry thief wasn't a Mage at all! It was a flock of crows!"
"Crows?"
"Yes! They stole the sparkling jewelry and used it to decorate their leader's nest. Isn't that amazing?"
At this point, Lucy broke into a mischievous smile, "And Happy got his tail pecked by the crow leader while trying to retrieve the jewelry. It was so entertaining."
"We went there for the mission, and Lucy was so mean!"
Happy had been holding a small piece of fish tail in his mouth, but upon hearing Lucy's words, he started crying and ran off, leaving behind a mostly devoured fish tail.
"Hey?!"
Lucy was startled. It was just a joke, and he had been teasing her butt too!
Mira put on a sad expression, "Lucy even mocked a fellow guild member and belittled his efforts. Happy must be very upset now."
"Did I... did I do something that bad?" Lucy covered her head with both hands and looked at Rod for help. "What should I do?"
"It's not that serious. Happy can be cheered up with a fish or two, but it's fine even if you don't," said Rod, who was all too familiar with Mira's acting and Happy's personality.
He thought that one was just playing with Lucy, while the other wanted to trick her into giving him a fish.
Lucy had already been punished by the Celestial Spirit, and Rod didn't want to tease her further today.
"Is... is that so?" Although she believed Rod, the kind-hearted Lucy decided to buy a fish.
The prank had been cut short, and Mira glared at Rod, waiting for the punishment of their bet.
Suddenly, a commotion broke out in the tavern, and several people in white uniforms appeared in the guild—they were from the Council Chamber.
"Forgive our intrusion, but we are here on orders to investigate the Ironwood Forest terrorist attack. We hope the involved parties can help clarify some doubts. Your Excellency Makarov, may we ask..."
The group looked around and approached Makarov for his opinion.
Makarov nodded, "Feel free to ask anyone you need to."
"First, it's Erza Scarlet, then Natsu Dragneel, Gray Fullbuster, and Lucy Ha..."
"Hah?!?!" Lucy suddenly interrupted.
Amidst the curious stares of the others, she forced herself to say, "I'm sorry, am I... am I being interrogated? I was startled, hah, hah..."
It was too deliberate, and her sudden incoherence made Rod suspicious.
The Council members didn't seem to mind and explained, "No, it's not an interrogation, just a routine inquiry. There's no need to go to the Council Chamber; we can do it right here."
"Erza, Natsu!" Makarov called the two over. Gray was already there, and he had intended to ask about suitable jobs.
Natsu protested, "What's going on, old man? I was about to duel with Erza!"
Makarov suddenly became lively, "What, a duel? Great! I'll be the referee! Where's Cana? Is there a bet?"
The Council members were a bit dazed, wondering if this was truly one of the Ten Wizard Saints.
Mira reminded him, "Guild Master, please be serious."
"Ahem..." Makarov straightened up, "We'll discuss the duel later. First, let's cooperate with the investigation and answer truthfully."
"The... the Council Chamber?" Natsu suddenly felt uneasy. "I didn't burn the forest!"
Rod tapped his head, "Idiot, they're asking about the Ironwood Forest incident."
The Council members exchanged glances, feeling that the one with pink hair was suspicious.
"Come over here," Rod sighed and led them to the side table, bringing over a few stools for them to sit and chat.
That Natsu, he better not say anything out of line.
