Chapter 317: End of the School Year
Chapter 317: End of the School Year
In front of the staff lounge, Ron quietly waited by the door. When he spotted Harry and Lupin, he excitedly waved at them.
"Harry, Professor Lupin, you finally made it!"
"Where's Hermione?" Harry asked, puzzled. He looked around and saw Hermione standing in a corner, talking quietly with Professor Mcgonagall.
Soon, they joined the others and walked into the staff lounge. The room had been rearranged, with old black wooden chairs piled up near the fireplace. In their place was a long table.
Flitwick cast a spell on the ceiling, making colorful ribbons hang down. Felix conjured a small white ball that floated to the ceiling, casting a warm, gentle light that illuminated the room. Hagrid carried in a large barrel of mead, and Dumbledore and Professor Mcgonagall laughed as they transformed the table decorations into tiny animals.
Harry temporarily forgot the sadness of parting and indulged in the delicious food. On Hagrid's recommendation, he tried a small cup of house-elf-made wine. When Professor Mcgonagall gave him a disapproving look, Hagrid took the cup away, saying, "You're still young, Harry..."
The table was laden with various hot dishes and sweet puddings, along with some new and unusual dishes. Ron picked up a meatball drizzled with sauce and asked curiously, "What's this? I've never seen it before." He took a bite and his eyes lit up. "Harry, Hermione, you have to try this!"
Harry picked up a yellow square and tasted it. "It's pineapple", he said confidently.
"What's this dish called?"
A house-elf wearing a chef's hat respectfully answered, "This is sweet and sour pineapple meat. It was recently developed. Mr. Hep gave Winky a cookbook at Christmas, and it contains many magical recipes."
Hermione hesitated. "Are you a house-elf from the kitchen? Why don't you come and join us..."
Winky took a few steps back. "We will eat in the kitchen", he bowed. "The food is ready. Please enjoy." With a pop, he disappeared.
"You frightened him, Hermione", Ron said.
At that moment, Professor Mcgonagall began asking Lupin about his plans after leaving the school. Lupin mentioned a job listing he had seen in the newspaper. "I meet all the requirements except for Ancient Runes. I plan to submit a resume."
Professor Mcgonagall smiled and said warmly, "Which company? Perhaps I know them and can write you a recommendation letter."
Lupin said gently, "A new company called Future World. I'm not sure about it yet—"
"Future World?" Felix repeated, giving Lupin a strange look that made him feel a bit puzzled. After a moment, Felix raised his glass. "You will succeed, Lupin."
"Thank you."
"Clink!"
Their glasses clinked together.
...
The next morning, Harry woke up early and hurriedly got dressed. Ron was still sound asleep, mumbling in his sleep, "This is delicious, Harry..."
Harry put on a robe and walked out of the bedroom. His early departure disturbed the Fat Lady's slumber.
"Child, it's the end of the term", she said weakly, rotating to move aside.
"I haven't lost my mind. I have something important to do", Harry explained. He walked down the spiral staircase, exited through the Great Hall's large doors, and saw Professor Lupin's back as he carried a suitcase.
Breathless, Harry caught up. "Pro-professor, I came to see you off!"
They strolled down the lawn, bathed in the golden morning light, and walked to the main entrance of Hogwarts. They talked like true friends, sharing everything freely. When it was time to part, Harry felt even more reluctant to say goodbye.
Lupin smiled. "I left quietly to avoid making the farewell more emotional. Besides, we'll meet again soon."
"Are you talking about Sirius's funeral?"
Lupin nodded, "A noble person..." He waved and left with a carefree air.
Harry watched until Lupin disappeared at the end of the road before returning to the castle. The time flew by quickly, and he devoted all his energy to studying Ancient Magic, even neglecting Apparition. Besides Hermione, several club members had already mastered the spell—Percy Weasley, Jeffrey, and Penelope followed closely behind.
"They are all seventh-year students; the advantage is too obvious", Ron said.
"Cedric has also made some initial progress", Harry said, somewhat sensitively. "I always fall a bit short."
"Harry, he's two years ahead of you. Why are you comparing yourself to him?" Ron asked, puzzled.
Harry didn't respond. He knew his thoughts were a bit silly, but he couldn't help feeling competitive in his heart.
Before they knew it, it was the last day before the holiday. The school announced the exam results. Harry, Ron, and Hermione passed all their subjects. Harry received an Outstanding in Defense Against the Dark Arts and Exceeds Expectations in Ancient Runes, Charms, and Care of Magical Creatures. Ron glanced at his results, "I only missed an Outstanding in Defense Against the Dark Arts, but the rest are the same."
He then looked at Hermione's results, finding the only Exceeds Expectations in her otherwise Outstanding-filled report: "Defense Against the Dark Arts... I remember the boggart you faced during the exam."
During the practical exam, Hermione encountered a cunning boggart that transformed into a professor and told her she had failed all her exams and would have to repeat the year. It took her a while to calm down, and the exam was interrupted for ten minutes.
Hermione glanced at Ron and reminded him, "I learned Apparition."
Ron frowned and muttered, "I managed it twice..."
"Once you lost half your eyebrow, and once you tore your cloak—yes, if you count those as successes."
"I should go find Fred and George Weasley; their mom will give them a good thrashing..."
When they entered the Great Hall, they saw Professor Flitwick surrounded by excited students. Percy announced loudly, "All Outstanding!"
Jeffrey reminded him, "You forgot Marcus."
"Alright, one Exceeds Expectations... I'm trying to ignore that."
Felix was also surrounded but managed to free himself after a while, though it was a happy problem. The seventh-year graduates were celebrating enthusiastically, and even Snape didn't deduct any points, which was unheard of.
"Severus, I need a steady supply of Wolfsbane Potion."
"For that werewolf?" Snape said with disgust. Since the Battle of the Viaduct, he no longer used Lupin's name in conversations with Felix, referring to him as 'that werewolf.'
"You don't seem like the type to meddle", Snape said.
Felix sighed, "He will be an excellent employee."
"Your company?" Snape asked, not immediately rejecting the idea but thinking seriously, "Are you still accepting investments?"
"I would refuse others, but not you, Severus."
"Give me a title, one higher than that werewolf's. I'll interview him personally", Snape said, pinching his fingers and showing a sinister smile.
"Your expression is quite terrifying; the young wizard dropped his fork."
Snape glanced at him, sneering, "A foolish fellow, eating a pie in my class. I made him process the livers of two large buckets of horned toads."
"Is that so? No wonder he looked familiar..."
The seventh-year campus storyline has concluded. There will be two updates today.
