Chapter 317: Competitive Dragonite
Chapter 317: Competitive Dragonite
Naoki hadn't known the exact location of Kitaori Village beforehand. Before his arrival in this world, the Purple DLC that featured the area hadn't been released yet, so he subconsciously assumed it was in the shadowy northeastern region of the Pasio region.
But now, it seemed that assumption was incorrect.
The place was actually a continuous stretch of mountains that had never appeared in the anime, and beyond those mountains to the north lay the Kalos region.
Currently, according to Mayor Thomas, Kitaori Village seemed to be located in a remote, small countryside in the southern Sinnoh region and northeastern Kanto region.
Mayor Thomas said, "We don't have an airport in Tsukishi Town, so you'll need to go to the neighboring Bout City to catch a flight. Don't worry, the town will cover all the expenses for the trip."
Naoki nodded, his mind already contemplating the implications.
Today was February 26, 199 in the League Calendar. In three days, it would be the 29th, and he would be departing from Tsukishi Town for a week-long agricultural exchange in Kitaori Village.
This gave him three days to take care of some accumulated tasks around the ranch.
"Alright, I'll keep that in mind," Naoki replied.
Mayor Thomas smiled and nodded, then took out a card and handed it to him.
"This is an identification badge for the exchange members. Once you arrive, there will be someone waiting for you at the station. Just show them this badge, and they'll take care of everything on the Kitaori Village side."
Naoki reached out and took the card, thanking the mayor.
As the hour was already late, Mayor Thomas stood to leave after ensuring everything had been discussed.
"I should be off. Just remember to depart as planned, and don't worry about the ranch. The town will help look after it."
"Okay."
Naoki saw the mayor out, watching his figure disappear down the road before turning back into the living room.
"Ai?" His sister, Ai, pointed to the seafood in the basin, asking if he wanted to continue preparing those ingredients.
Naoki glanced over and suddenly recalled something important. "No need, I already cleaned them earlier. Just steam them in the pot."
He took over Ai's spot and emptied the basin of clams, sea snails, oysters, and small shrimp and crabs into the steamer.
Taking advantage of the time it would take to steam the seafood, Naoki peeled and crushed some garlic cloves, making a simple garlic sauce, and also mixed a few bowls of seasoning sauce.
Being by the sea, Tsukishi Town's market offered fresh seafood caught that very morning, ensuring their liveliness and flavor.
Soon, a unique seafood aroma wafted out from the pot, accompanied by billowing steam.
When the seafood was ready, Naoki lifted the lid and emptied the pot's contents into a large iron basin.
As Naoki looked down at the feast, information about the dishes appeared in his mind.
[Seafood Medley (C+)
: A marine cuisine made with a variety of seafood, boasting a unique oceanic flavor.
Effect: Little Fish, Big Seafood (Lv. 1)
: Slightly increases the Friendship of Water-type Pokemon. Effective only for Water-type Pokemon.
Evaluation: A simple yet delicious seafood banquet, a common and beloved dish in everyday life!]
"Little Fish, Big Seafood? Increases friendship with Water-type Pokemon?" Naoki was a little surprised. He didn't think he had any Water-type Pokemon on his ranch at the moment...
Oh, that's right! He almost forgot about those goofy Psyducks!
Naoki immediately decided to set aside some shells and shrimp to send to those Psyducks later.
The Dragonites loved seafood.
As Pokemon that lived on an isolated island, their food sources mostly came from the vast ocean.
Fish, squid, shrimp, and shellfish were all part of their regular diet.
Every morning, they would wake up and head out to sea to catch some fish for breakfast.
After filling their bellies, they would fly to the ranch to work and indulge in the delicious Poke Puffs.
They didn't return to Dragonite Island for lunch, so Naoki would prepare nutritious sandwiches to tide them over until dinner.
The Dragonites would stay at the ranch until evening, only returning to their island once the sun set.
Thus, seafood wasn't a rare treat for them.
However, after Naoki's culinary magic, the flavor of these dishes was noticeably enhanced, much to the Dragonites' delight!
Naoki clearly saw Dragonite 2's eyes light up after devouring a sauce-glazed squid.
Soon after, Dragonites 3 and 4, along with the five Hakutons, wore expressions of sheer culinary bliss.
Unlike the Dragonites, Golett and Golurk weren't too fond of the seafood spread.
They much preferred juicy, grilled meat over these strange, sea-scented foods.
Give them a thick, juicy steak that exploded with flavor in every bite, and they'd be in culinary heaven.
Naoki: "..."
In the evening, after spending a fun-filled day at the ranch, the Dragonites and Hakutons happily returned to Dragonite Island, each carrying a Poke Puff box.
They sat by the central lake, devouring the contents of their boxes, after which Dragonites 2, 3, and 4, along with the five Hakutons, began discussing something serious.
Dragonite 2: "Roar!" (Naoki loves fish just like us!)
Hakuton 1: "Roar~" (I'll catch lots and lots of fish for Naoki tomorrow!)
Dragonite 4: "Roar!" (Me too!)
Dragonite 3, drooling: "Roar... (Those little fish yesterday were so delicious! I want more...)
And so, early the next morning, before the sun had even risen, the Dragonites and Hakutons dived into the deep blue sea, leaving their companions on the island puzzled by their actions.
Each Dragonite was an excellent swimmer; they moved through the water like torpedoes, speeding through the vast ocean.
Soon, Dragonite 2 emerged from the water, clutching a large lobster with its claws.
The lobster, sensing danger, frantically flailed its tail, trying to break free.
Dragonite 2 casually slapped it unconscious and then happily placed it in a Poke Puff box, intending to bring it to the ranch.
Just then, there was a loud splash from the sea.
Dragonite 2 turned to see Dragonite 4 emerge with a small, light blue dolphin-like Pokemon with a white belly in its claws.
It tightly hugged the Poppo with its big, chubby claws and eagerly turned to its companions, asking, "Roar?" (Will Naoki like this?)
Before it could get an answer, the captured Poppo slapped Dragonite 4's face with its tail and then broke free, angrily using Water Gun on it.
Dragonite 4 was sprayed in the face, watching helplessly as the Poppo escaped.
"Roar..."
Forget it, that Pokemon's temperament is too bad, and it's not obedient at all. Naoki definitely won't like it.
Dragonite 4 gave up on the Poppo and turned to dive back into the sea. Soon, it resurfaced with an extra-large tuna that had been electrocuted and unconscious.
It let out a joyful roar, "Roar!"
The little fish and shrimp from yesterday were too small, and they hadn't had their fill. But this fish was huge, and they would surely be able to satisfy their hunger!
Seeing Dragonite 4's massive catch, Dragonite 2 suddenly felt that the large lobster in its claws was insignificant.
It casually tossed the lobster aside and then dove back into the water. Soon, it resurfaced with an oversized salmon in its claws, a satisfied expression on its face.
Meanwhile, the other Dragonites and Hakutons had also caught their own prey—large lobsters, giant squid, and a pile of big crabs.
Carrying these fish and seafood, the Dragonites drooled in anticipation as they flew towards the ranch.
At 7:25 am, Naoki was milking his three riding goats.
He poured the fresh goat's milk into buckets and then handed them over to the two Golisopods, Golett and Golurk, to store in the milk cellar.
The Dragonites flew to the fields and, as usual, used Rain Dance to help Naoki irrigate the crops.
Just then, a series of roars filled the air from above.
Hearing the familiar sounds, Naoki didn't need to look up to know that the part-time Dragonites had arrived for work.
He looked up to greet them as he did every day.
But as soon as Naoki saw the scene before him, he froze in place.
What is all that?!
Each Dragonite and Hakuton was carrying something.
Two Dragonites clutched two oversized fish in their large claws, while another Dragonite held two lobsters.
Even the Hakutons joined in, with some holding squid and crabs in their tails and mouths, and others carrying clumps of green seaweed.
"Roar~"
Seeing Naoki, the Dragonites' faces lit up with happiness.
They flew towards him and presented their gifts.
Naoki was completely baffled by the Dragonites' actions: "For me?"
"Roar!" The Hakutons nodded vigorously, their faces full of eager anticipation.
The surprise came too suddenly, and Naoki stood there, stunned for a long while before he could react.
He looked down at the seafood that the Dragonites had casually tossed onto the grass, and information about the ingredients immediately appeared in his mind.
On the far left, the first Dragonite had brought a fish about a meter long, with a spindle-shaped body, a silver-blue back, and black spots above its lateral line.
It was a [Salmon].
The second Dragonite had brought a fish over two meters long, with a smooth, streamlined body and a blue dorsal fin.
It was a [Bluefin Tuna].
The other Pokemon on the ranch were also drawn to the commotion.
Babiri and the Frost Maidens all gathered around, their faces reflecting their shock at seeing the tuna, which was several times larger than they were.
"Ba Mu?"
Naoki was deeply touched as he looked at the Dragonites and Hakutons staring at him with wide eyes.
He walked up to them and patted each of their heads, smiling as he said, "Thank you, I really like these gifts."
"Roar~" The part-time Dragonites were delighted.
The Hakutons also chimed in with happy roars, surrounding Naoki in the middle.
The Dragonite that had just finished watering the fields was startled by this scene and immediately flew into a jealous rage.
It was upset and angry. Those unruly Dragonites had given gifts to Naoki without telling it and without including it! How dare they! They were obviously trying to compete for Naoki's attention and affection.
By giving gifts, they were trying to make Naoki like them more...
And seeing how touched Naoki was, happily patting those Dragonites, it was clear that he was already falling for their scheme! The jealous Dragonite's heart raced, and it even imagined a scene where Naoki and those Dragonites sat together at the dining table, laughing and chatting, while it was left alone, forgotten in a dark corner, crying its eyes out.
Damn it! It wouldn't let that happen!
"Roar!"
The Dragonite roared, wanting to rush over and pull Naoki into a hug, to show those Dragonites that he was its Trainer.
But then it hesitated. Those Dragonites had given gifts to Naoki, but it hadn't done anything...
No, it couldn't let them win!
Feeling jealous and angry, the Dragonite glanced at Naoki, who had turned towards it at the sound of its roar. Then, it flew off in a huff.
Naoki immediately realized that his Golett was feeling left out.
"Dragonite!" he called out.
But the Dragonite was already far away, disappearing into the horizon at incredible speed.
Naoki panicked and looked at Golurk, wanting to ask it to bring the sulking Dragonite back.
Golurk just gave him a look, yawned, and sat down, looking unconcerned and completely unbothered by the Dragonite's behavior.
"..." Naoki was at a loss for words.
Could it be that Golurk was also jealous like the Dragonite?
For the first time, Naoki felt the trouble of having too many captured Pokemon.
However, the part-time Dragonites quickly snapped out of their initial daze.
They put on their little red satchels, took the MooMoo Milk from Ai, and happily flew off to Shika Town to start their daily work.
Naoki, on the other hand, watched the direction in which the Dragonite had disappeared, his heart filled with worry.
Babiri and the others stayed by his side, looking up in the same direction.
"Ba Mu..."
Naoki's mind was now occupied with worry about the Dragonite, and he had no interest in dealing with the fish the Dragonites had brought.
He dumped all the fish into the lake on the ranch for the time being.
Just as he was about to leave, a purple vortex suddenly appeared on the surface of the lake, and the next second, all the fish disappeared without a trace.
Naoki: "..."
It seemed like his troubles were never-ending. Clearly, Giratina had taken the fish as a tribute offering.
Naoki felt a headache coming on.
Meanwhile, far out at sea...
The jealous Dragonite pushed its speed to the limit, flying at breakneck speed over the vast ocean.
Soon, it overtook a passenger plane, causing the passengers to shout in surprise.
Ignoring the plane, the Dragonite continued on its way before suddenly diving into the ocean, determined to find an even bigger fish.
However, no matter how long it searched, it couldn't find a single one.
Unwilling to give up, it decided to leave the sea and search for larger prey elsewhere.
It flew away from the sea, soaring high into the sky, and traveled far and wide, passing over the Galar, Alola, Unova, and Sinnoh regions before finally arriving at the Hoenn region.
Looking down at the unfamiliar sea below, the Dragonite dived in, determined to find the biggest fish it could.
