Chapter 317: Arrival in the Land of Snow [35]
Chapter 317: Arrival in the Land of Snow [35]
After the unification of the Ninja World, the workload for ninjas decreased significantly. Most of their tasks involved finding lost cats and other D-rank missions, while assassinations and ambushes, which were once A-rank and S-rank missions, had become rare. However, there was still no shortage of escort missions ranging from A-rank to B-rank.
On the one hand, the order in the Ninja World had not yet fully stabilized. Many rogue ninjas who had fled from the major ninja villages or those that had been destroyed were still lurking within its confines.
On the other hand, the dark underbelly of society could never be completely eradicated. The underground world persisted, and as time went on, a newly established empire would inevitably descend into darkness and corruption.
Hence, the demand for ninja escorts remained high.
However, as time marched on, technological advancements would begin to threaten the ninjas' dominance in the coming years. The technological tree of the Ninja World had always been a mysterious entity.
Even when Feng Ye was a child, refrigerators and televisions were already commonplace. Pain's Asura Path was capable of creating missiles, and firearms had already existed during that period. However, due to the vast difference in speed and reflexes, ordinary people still struggled to compete with ninjas in combat.
In the era of Boruto, when Boruto and his companions fought with Ao, one of Mizukage Mei Terumi's bodyguards, he whipped out a Gatling gun. The sight of it left Feng Ye speechless.
"Times have changed, my friend!"
Indeed, the Gatling gun proved to be a formidable weapon in the hands of Ao. The narrative of the story, however, tended to emphasize the power of ninjas rather than technological advancement. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that nuclear weapons would also make an appearance.
With nuclear weapons in play, even Kage-level ninjas would be reduced to ashes.
Only those at the Six Paths level would be able to counter such destructive force. According to Feng Ye's assessment, the power of the Six Paths, the 'Seeking Balls,' likely belonged to the 'annihilation of matter and antimatter' level, surpassing nuclear weapons by at least one level.
Of course,
as far as Feng Ye was aware, the current level of technology in the Ninja World was limited to firearms in a handful of countries. Moreover, as ninjas dominated this world, the focus of technological development tended towards more practical inventions like televisions and refrigerators rather than weapons to counter ninjas.
After all, no one had witnessed the destructive power of nuclear weapons firsthand, and the subconscious belief persisted that firearms, no matter how advanced, would always be inferior to the speed and agility of ninjas. As a result, technological progress in this area was relatively slow.
Nevertheless, most people would still prefer to hire a group of ordinary bodyguards along with a few ninjas as escorts, as it provided an additional layer of security.
Feng Ye had once considered restricting the development of technology, but he eventually dismissed the idea. After all, at this rate, it would take at least a few decades before the creation of nuclear weapons.
Moreover, nuclear weapons were far from being planet-busting weapons, and they posed no threat to his current level of power. He had no doubt that a single punch from him could obliterate the entire Ninja World.
For technology to surpass him,
it would need a few more centuries.
Besides, he was eagerly awaiting the advent of computers, which he predicted wouldn't take too long. The prospect of using a computer again after several decades excited him.
...
Snow Town.
Feudal Lord's Mansion.
In a dimly lit room, Kazahana Furuto sat motionlessly, his face devoid of emotion as he stared at the lit candle in front of him.
Suddenly, a white piece of paper flew through the window and landed on the table in front of him. He reached out and grabbed it.
"Have you finally shown yourself...?"
He unfolded the paper and glanced at its contents, and for a brief moment, a glint appeared in his lifeless eyes, accompanied by a sinister smile.
"After a decade, you've finally decided to return, huh? Is it to reclaim the position that was once yours?"
"But your timing is impeccable..."
Kazahana burned the piece of paper with the candle and then took out another sheet, swiftly writing a few lines with his brush. With a slight flick of his finger, the paper drifted out of the window.
That treasure held the power he craved—a power that, combined with his Chakra Armor, would grant him a military force strong enough to challenge the Fire Nation. With it, he could break free from his current predicament, defeat the Fire Nation and Konoha, and reclaim dominance over the Land of Snow, ruling over the ninja world!
"Come..." he murmured. "Come sooner... Bring me the key..."
Feng Huanoidang's angry roar extinguished the candle, leaving him muttering in the darkness, his voice gradually fading away.
...
In the northern part of the ninja world, near the former Land of Snow, the temperature had dropped significantly, and icebergs could be spotted in the depths of the sea.
On the edge of Snow Town, on a snowy mountain...
The film crew's ship, led by the director, Kazahana Futayo, had docked by the shore. A large number of crew members and their equipment occupied the small icy island.
"Finally..."
"...we've arrived here."
Kazahana, wrapped in a thick coat, stepped forward onto the ice, her breath forming a cloud of white mist. "Just a bit further, and we'll reach the sacred site. The power to defeat the Demon King lies there."
As her words trailed off, a figure emerged from the snow and ice ahead of them. He had short, silvery-white hair like snowflakes, and his deep blue eyes seemed to hold the vastness of a distant sky.
"Who are you?!" Kazahana demanded, her tone sharp with caution as she raised her weapon, aiming it at Feng Ye.
Feng Ye took a step forward, a slight smile playing on his lips. "I am the guardian of the sacred land of the Land of Snow. My family has guarded this place for generations, protecting the power that can defeat the Demon King. Have you come seeking the strength to vanquish him?"
"Yes." Kazahana exhaled sharply, her eyes fixed on Feng Ye. "I am here to obtain the power to defeat the Demon King. Please, grant it to me!"
Feng Ye paused, his gaze steady as he regarded her. "To obtain the power to defeat the Demon King, you must undergo a trial set by my clan. Failure means death."
Kazahana's eyes flickered, but she quickly steeled herself, taking a deep breath. "I am ready," she declared resolutely.
"Then follow me." Feng Ye glanced at her and then turned away, his tone calm. Kazahana fell into step behind him.
"Cut!" the director shouted, waving his hand excitedly. "Perfect! As expected of a ninja, you need minimal preparation for such a role..."
Feng Ye stopped and exhaled.
According to the script, he was a guardian of the sacred sword, a weapon capable of defeating the Demon King. He would help Kazahana obtain the sword and, at a crucial moment, assist her in unleashing its full power to vanquish their foe.
While the story was a cliche, it was considered exceptional in this era.
The development of Kazahana falling in love with her guardian was also natural, given his captivating looks and charm. It would have been strange if she hadn't been moved.
The director and screenwriter had clearly done a good job with the script.
