Chapter 316: Trouble Brewing
Chapter 316: Trouble Brewing
Despite Cedric's quick reaction, he had underestimated the severity of the situation... or perhaps he was unaware of his own fame.
Being the top student in his fourth year, with his handsome looks and gentle, patient demeanor, he had gained significant popularity among the student body.
He had barely walked a hundred meters from the Great Hall when five dwarves came running towards him, their golden wings fluttering behind them in a comical manner.
"Hey, you! Cedric Diggory!" The lead dwarf parted the crowd with his arms and squeezed through.
Cedric's hair stood on end, and he was about to take off running, but before he could take two steps, the dwarves were kicking people's shins and catching up to him.
Three in front and two behind, they blocked his path completely.
"I have a musical message to deliver personally to Cedric Diggory," one dwarf stepped forward, plucking his harp in an intimidating manner.
Cedric, seeing the crowd gathering around him, wanted to flee again... but the dwarves were holding onto his clothes, preventing him from moving.
"Not here..." Cedric pleaded, "I'm going to be late for class!"
But the dwarves ignored him, shouting in a loud voice, "This is your singing Valentine's gift...
His gray eyes are as captivating as wrinkled, dried figs,
His hair is as shiny and black as a thirty-year-old cauldron,
I wish he were mine, he's so handsome,
He's Hufflepuff's perfect gentleman."
Cedric's face had lost all color, looking even paler than a legendary vampire.
He tried to laugh along with the others, but all he could manage was a dry groan.
Cedric had expected the dwarves' message delivery to be less friendly, but he was shocked to find that he had underestimated them greatly.
This wasn't just unfriendly; it was a nightmare.
And this nightmare was just the beginning, with four more to follow...
Kyle had been watching the spectacle from the side, but Conna suddenly tugged on his sleeve.
"You'd better run..."
"What?"
Kyle looked up and saw more dwarves running towards them.
Exactly seven, no more, no less.
And their target didn't seem to be Cedric...
"Hey, Kyle..."
"Swarm of Birds!" Kyle's scalp tingled, and he instantly drew his wand.
The cedar wand let out a loud bang, and a flock of birds flew out from its tip, surrounding the dwarves and blocking their vision.
Without hesitation, Kyle pulled Conna through the crowd and sprinted back to the Hufflepuff Common Room.
Only when the barrel-shaped door slowly closed behind them did Kyle lean back on a sofa, panting heavily.
He wasn't tired; he was scared.
Conna stood beside him, covering her mouth and laughing so hard that tears were about to spill from her eyes.
"I've never seen you so scared," she shrugged, "Not even when Oren tricked you into the Forbidden Forest."
"You don't understand..."
Kyle wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, "I'd rather go to the Forbidden Forest with Oren again if it meant those dwarves would disappear."
"Pfft!" The young witch couldn't hold back her laughter.
"Conna, don't be so mean," Kyle said irritably, "I helped you, and those dwarves might have been coming for you too.
Conna frowned and wrinkled her nose. The thought of the dwarves singing, "Your hair is like freshly fried potatoes" made her head buzz, and her body felt cold all over.
Her good mood from earlier vanished, and she glared at Kyle.
"I'm warning you, don't talk nonsense. Those dwarves have been eyeing you the whole time." She couldn't help but say, "They're clearly after you, and it has nothing to do with me!"
"Who knows for sure... I don't believe you can see all the dwarves' eyes."
"I did see them!" Conna shouted.
At that moment, the door opened again, and Cedric returned, his face still carrying a trace of relief from his close escape.
"Thanks to you, Kyle."
He slumped onto the sofa, "Those birds distracted the dwarves, and I took the chance to escape.
It was terrifying... If I pretend to be sick and go to the Hospital Wing, do you think Madam Pomfrey will believe me?"
"Pretending to be sick definitely won't work." Kyle shook his head, "If you're really thinking of doing that... I have Deadly Nightshade here, do you want to take a bite?"
"I'll pass on the Deadly Nightshade." Cedric thought for a moment before refusing.
He just wanted to hide in the Hospital Wing for a day, but losing half his life for it didn't seem worth it.

When the Hufflepuff Common Room door opened once more, Cedric stepped out, trembling.
There was only one Invisibility Cloak, and after some internal struggle, Cedric finally decided to let Conna have it.
He glanced to the side and muttered, "Kyle, do you really think your idea will work?"
"Let's give it a try." The wall beside them shook slightly, and Kyle's voice came from within, "There are only twelve dwarves. As long as we keep them busy, they won't have time to do what they did earlier."
Kyle's idea was simple... If you can't beat them, hide, and if you can't hide, join them.
Others can send them greeting cards, why can't they send cards to others? After all, they don't need to sign their names...
As long as others receive one more card, they'll receive one less.
"But who should we send them to?"
Cedric still hesitated, feeling that while the idea was good, it was a bit too underhanded, and he felt a bit embarrassed.
"Fred and George would be perfect." Kyle casually suggested, "They love this kind of excitement and would be thrilled to receive greeting cards."
"And Lockhart... Let's send him a hundred first."
"Professor Snape would also work. He definitely won't receive any cards on Valentine's Day, so we can send him fifty to boost his morale."
As they were talking, an arm suddenly appeared out of thin air and smacked Kyle.
"Alright, ten cards... The rest can go to Lockhart."
After saying this, Kyle took out a stack of papers filled with writing and distributed them to the others.
These were all made in the Common Room earlier, and the content was almost identical.
"Add the names and have the dwarves deliver them."
Cedric still hesitated, "Are these duplicated greeting cards really okay? Should we change the content?"
"There's no need." Kyle shook his head and explained, "Dwarves are usually assistants to fairies when they forge weapons, and they're accustomed to mechanical work. Even if the content on the papers is the same, they'll still do it.
But you've reminded me, remember to mix up the names later so they'll have to make multiple trips."
