Chapter 316: Speak Up! Where Did You Hide My Guide?
Chapter 316: Speak Up! Where Did You Hide My Guide?
The two wizards, chatting and laughing, did not notice a hand holding a wand extending from the void behind them.
"Sectumsempra!" Ivan was about to cast the spell.
Suddenly, Ivan felt something collide with him, knocking him to the ground and forcing him to interrupt the spell.
Instinctively, Ivan was about to activate his Circle of Magic, but then a familiar voice whispered in his ear.
"Shh!"
Hermione? Ivan recognized the voice, but there was nothing in front of him, only the sensation of something pressing down on him.
Was it the Disillusionment Charm?
Numerous questions swirled in Ivan's mind.
However, Ivan didn't dare to move or speak because the commotion had attracted the attention of the two Black-robed Wizards.
"What was that noise?" one of them turned to look in their direction and asked.
The other Black-robed Wizard walked over curiously.
Ivan held his breath, feeling tense. The Invisibility Cloak's concealment was strong, but it wasn't perfect and could still be touched.
These two wizards weren't a significant threat to him, but since Hermione had chosen to stop him, there must be a reason. Ivan wouldn't force the issue.
At the same time, Ivan felt the small witch on top of him tremble slightly as the Black-robed Wizard approached, clearly showing her nervousness.
The Black-robed Wizard walked closer, his eagle-like gaze scanning the empty alley, but he saw nothing.
He frowned, certain he had heard something.
However, the Black-robed Wizard knew that just because he couldn't see something didn't mean it wasn't there. It could be that someone had used the Disillusionment Charm to follow them.
With that thought, the Black-robed Wizard suddenly drew his wand and cast a spell.
"Aparecium~ (Revelio)"
The magical energy from the tip of the wand spread out in all directions, sweeping over Ivan.
Ivan remained calm. He was wearing the Invisibility Cloak, one of the Deathly Hallows, so he wasn't worried about being seen. However, he quickly thought about Hermione, who was lying on top of him, and was concerned that her Disillusionment Charm might be dispelled. Fortunately, it wasn't.
The Black-robed Wizard looked puzzled and put away his wand. The Middle-aged Wizard beside him said impatiently,
"Let's go, stop looking. They're waiting for us. If we're too late, that old man might start complaining again."
"Why are you so afraid of him? Does that old codger really think he's someone important?" the Black-robed Wizard sneered but turned and left with the Middle-aged Wizard.
Ivan remained motionless, pretending to be dead. The small witch on top of him sat up, a strand of brown hair floating in the air.
The small witch was about to say something when Ivan swiftly extended his right hand, grabbed her head, and pressed it down, straight into his chest.
The small witch was startled, but then she saw the Black-robed Wizard reappear at the end of the alley and quickly covered her mouth.
"That's odd, there really doesn't seem to be anyone", the Black-robed Wizard said, looking at the empty alley, his tone dark.
The Middle-aged Wizard's voice then came from behind him.
"Even if someone was following you, they're probably long gone by now."
"Right, let's go." The black-robed wizard shook his head and turned to leave.
This time, the young witch obediently remained on Ivan's back, afraid that the others might return. They held this position for several minutes before Ivan's voice reached her ear.
"They're gone, you can get down now!"
"Phew, that was close." The young witch removed a silvery-gray, strange fabric from her body, letting out a sigh of relief, beads of cold sweat on her forehead.
"Hermione? What are you doing here?" Ivan asked, puzzled.
Although he had guessed that the one blocking him was Hermione, he couldn't figure out how she had gotten here. Moreover, the Invisibility Cloak was with him, so why did Hermione have another one?
"Of course, I came to find you!" Hermione glared at Ivan, still a bit upset about being knocked out by him. She then handed him the book she had been holding.
"I've already found the answer to that question, it's on page one hundred and twenty-five of this book!"
Question? What question? Ivan looked at the book Hermione had given him, puzzled. The cover read *Deciphering Dark Magic*.
Ivan followed Hermione's instructions and flipped the book to page one hundred and twenty-five. After a few glances, he found that it contained records of cruel Dark Magic experiments.
However, one particular entry caught Ivan's attention. The Dark Wizard who wrote *Deciphering Dark Magic* had "found" dozens of people to experiment on the changes in the human body after death. In the end, he discovered that the stable magic within the body would rapidly dissipate after death.
If the subject had consumed a sustained Potion before death, the dispersing magic would disrupt the Potion's stability, causing even the slightest influence to potentially interrupt the Potion's continuous effect.
Ivan frowned as he read this. He finally understood why, three months ago, when he was using healing spells to treat the injuries of the black-robed wizards at the temporary base in Knockturn Alley, they had reverted to their original state.
A shadow of doubt clouded Ivan's mind. He had not known this when he brewed the Potion, so he hadn't considered this aspect at all. Clearly, he had been looking at the wrong books. Experiments that required large-scale killings would not be recorded in normal Potion books.
Ivan was even unsure if the Potion he had in his hand was effective. He looked at Hermione urgently. "When did you find out about this?"
"Of course, before you knocked me out, I was just about to tell you!" Hermione rolled her eyes at Ivan. Before he could say more, she rummaged through her bag and pulled out a vial containing a Potion.
"Fortunately, it didn't break", Hermione sighed in relief, handing the vial to Ivan. "This is what you gave me before I came. It should be helpful!"
Ivan took the vial, opened the lid, and sniffed it. The smell was that of Polyjuice Potion, but not the improved version he knew.
Ivan's gaze then fell on Hermione's chest, where another Time Turner hung.
He immediately understood everything. It must have been his future self who had given these things to Hermione and sent her here.
With this realization, Ivan spoke excitedly. "What about my strategy? I mean, what did I tell you before I sent you here? What should we do next?"
The young witch blinked in confusion under Ivan's expectant gaze. How would she know what to do next?
