Chapter 316: Rebellion Against the Splendid Father
Chapter 316: Rebellion Against the Splendid Father
Azure flames burned silently, distorting the air with their intense heat. Transparent waves of scorching heat surged in all directions, and a violent wind suddenly swept in from the heart of the flames, forming a massive fire tornado.
Chu Zihan's veins bulged, and dragon blood surged through him. Ancient incantations activated his domain, which continued to expand. Above him, Caesar floated like a Wind Lord, his cold gaze filled with raging anger, as if brewing a genuine storm within his eyes.
Incantation: Lord Flame!
Incantation: Wind Monarch's Eye!
The raging flame serpents, empowered by the wind, swelled to several times their size. With the harmonious incantations, their power skyrocketed, howling as they delivered calamity to the enemies. Eerie and chilling screams, reminiscent of punishment in hell, reverberated one after another.
The Demon Hordes who managed to escape the encirclement were the elite of the elite. However, facing Caesar and Chu Zihan, they could only endure the punishment in despair. The high temperatures of Lord Flame melted their dragon scales and internal organs—a genuine torture!
In no time, the last batch of enemies lay on the ground, groaning in agony.
Their bodies were covered in terrifying, serpentine burns, and they trembled, curled up. If not for their robust dragon lineage and the evolution potion, they would have perished.
The Enforcement Bureau members at the back were in awe of the strength of the two powerful reinforcements. After sending away the injured, they respectfully expressed their gratitude. The desire to seek strength was deeply ingrained in human genes, and the Japanese branch fully embodied this trait.
"Let's do a final sweep to ensure no enemies are left behind."
After the Enforcement Bureau members cleaned up the scene, Chu Zihan broke the silence with a suggestion. Caesar slightly nodded without objection, his thoughts elsewhere, appearing somewhat distracted.
During the quiet patrol, Chu Zihan felt the exhaustion that surged after unleashing the incantations. Unconsciously, he glanced at Caesar, who seemed completely unaffected.
"The power within you is stronger than I imagined. It has surpassed me, and by no small margin."
From the moment Lord Flame's domain expanded, it subtly slipped out of his control, and Wind Monarch's Eye took over the initiative. He was merely the source of ignition, while Caesar controlled all the winds within the domain. This indicated the strength of their respective domains and their command over the elements.
"It seems so."
Caesar replied indifferently, sensing the same. Ever since Lu Ke upgraded them that night, his physical potential had been fully unleashed, and he was constantly growing stronger.
In less than a day, Caesar felt his strength surge significantly. He estimated that he could now easily overpower Yuan Zhisheng in a one-on-one fight, provided there were no unknown incantations involved. But even with incantations, the outcome would likely be the same.
As his power grew, so did the range of his incantations. Most of the Sky and Wind Monarch incantations were awakening: Yin Thunder, Yin Flow, Land of Purification, Dark Light, Kamaitachi, Bloodthirsty Scythe, Instant, Wind Monarch's Eye...
The sweetness of this power was delightful, but it also instilled a subtle fear within him. It was as if he was gradually transforming from a human into a dragon, an ancient dragon of no small caliber!
"You were too ruthless. It would have been better to leave the Demon Hordes to the Serpent Clan to handle."
Chu Zihan chose his words carefully.
Caesar snapped out of his anxious fear, his tone still cold, "I held back, and each of them carries the weight of dozens of lives on their shoulders. Legally speaking, they have no civil rights."
"That's not for us to..."
Chu Zihan paused mid-sentence, biting his lip in hesitation. "You seem agitated because of your father's arrival here, isn't it?"
"I have no father. My father and mother are both dead," Caesar replied firmly, leaving no room for doubt.
Chu Zihan lowered his gaze, his tone softening unconsciously. He shouldn't have meddled in someone else's family affairs, but memories of his past self made him speak up.
"Perhaps there's some misunderstanding. Many people don't know how to express their love, but no father hates his own child. You share his blood; you are connected by blood. Your destinies are intertwined."
As he spoke these familiar words, he momentarily lost focus, recalling that rainy night, the man who stood in front of him, and Odin! The surrounding space seemed to freeze for a moment, and the wind howled through the streets like incessant wailing. The two walked towards the neon-lit, quiet, and desolate streets.
After a while, Caesar gave him a peculiar look, as if seeing him for the first time. He spoke slowly, "Everyone in the academy thinks that Chu Zihan is a cold-hearted killer, but I never expected that deep down, you have the heart of a Marvel hero. Did you come here to mediate my family issues?"
"Chu Zihan's expression turned awkward, and he replied in a low voice, "I just thought that more communication could be a solution to the problem. Many conflicts are caused by a lack of communication."
"I know, these scenes are common in the dramas of your country, but they mostly appear in romantic dramas, right?"
Caesar's gaze deepened as he looked into the distance, his tone laced with sarcasm, "When my mother was in the hospital, he was partying at some high-end bar. When the doctors and nurses removed her oxygen mask and heart rate monitor, he was busy pouring drinks for a beautiful woman. While we attended the funeral under the priest's guidance, he was rolling around in a woman's bed..."
"Pompeii Cato's life was spent as a stud, sowing his seeds in the arms of countless women, only to discard them without a care. If I were to give an evaluation, he is ten thousand times worse than that scumbag."
Chu Zihan: "..."
Caesar's expressionless face twitched imperceptibly at the mention of someone becoming a unit of measure for character. He gave up on trying to convince a family he wasn't familiar with and stopped walking as the sky gradually darkened.
"It's about time we headed back. To celebrate the annihilation of the Demon Hordes and the succession of the Family Head position, the Serpent Clan has prepared a grand banquet. Since we're in Japan, let's try some local specialties."
"I actually prefer your country's cuisine more."
Caesar clicked his tongue, thinking that Pompeii would most likely be invited as well, and he couldn't help but feel a strong sense of disgust.
...
The banquet was held in the clan's shrine, a high-level event with strict attendance restrictions. Only a select few, including some members of the main family and important guests, were allowed to participate. The attendees were all esteemed elders and vital pillars of the clan.
Exquisite Japanese paper lanterns hung high, emitting a soft and warm glow. The floor was covered with pristine tatami mats, and in the center stood a massive low table adorned with luxurious silk tablecloths and delicate flower arrangements. The table was laden with a variety of Japanese delicacies, from fresh sashimi to exquisite sushi and mouth-watering grilled dishes.
The attendees were all elites of the Serpent Clan, and despite their underworld affiliations, they conducted themselves with utmost politeness and respect. They discussed the details, aftermath, and corresponding measures of the lightning-fast battle, the transition of power within the clan, and occasionally exchanged pleasantries with others. The atmosphere was more akin to a networking event or a meeting than a typical lively banquet.
In the main hall of the shrine, the heads of the Lower Five Families had already taken their seats. Among the Upper Three Families, Old Dad was not seated in the central position; instead, it was occupied by Genji Shina.
This was a highly anticipated succession of power, and Genji Shina's performance over the years had been exceptional. With the annihilation of the Demon Hordes, everyone believed that this "Emperor" would lead the Serpent Clan to new heights. They applauded enthusiastically, and the clapping echoed throughout the shrine.
Genji Shina took a sip of his drink, his expression neutral as he ignored the applause.
He raised the glass to his lips, a hint of fatigue in his eyes.
Old Dad, sitting beside him, lowered his voice, "Shina, cheer up. The Family Head is the spiritual pillar of the family."
"I'm sorry, Dad, but I just can't bring myself to be happy."
Genji Shina replied indifferently.
The past few days had been eventful. His adoptive father and mentor, Old Dad, was suspected of harboring a Deathstalker with questionable identity. His sister, Hanae, had been deceived by a scumbag and spent the night outside. His younger brother, whom he believed had died by his own hand years ago, had returned and surrendered. And recently, he learned that the Four Great Monarchs had gathered in Japan, foreshadowing an impending catastrophe.
The only silver lining was the successful eradication of the Demon Hordes, the partial resolution of Old Dad's identity issues, and Hanae's recovery. As for his younger brother, Genji Shina...
If what Lu Mingze said was true, a single mistake could spell disaster for all of Japan. They might as well embrace their fate and die together. But if it was false, Genji Shina feared that his brother would be imprisoned in the Black Prison for life, which was no better outcome.
"Everyone is hoping for you to become the Family Head."
Old Dad continued to whisper his encouragement.
"Yes, everyone is expecting me to become the Family Head, except for myself."
Genji Shina swirled the drink in his glass, his tone unperturbed, "Compared to becoming the Supreme Being of the underworld, I'd rather sell sunscreen on a nude beach as the head of the Serpent Clan."
"You won't. You're a responsible person, and the Serpent Clan needs a Family Head. So, you will become the head, until you find someone worthy to take your place."
Genji Shina remained silent, neither refuting nor agreeing. However, he did stand up and delivered a speech to soothe the crowd, addressing the Lower Five Families' heads and elders. He continued until the crowd dispersed.
After a moment, the door opened, and Chu Zihan and Caesar entered.
There was not a single mistake in the first edition of the book, which was published in 1969.
Both men were dressed in black suits for the banquet, but they were surprised to find that everyone in the shrine was wearing traditional Japanese clothing. Fortunately, their thick skin allowed them to maintain their composure and not show any signs of embarrassment.
As long as they didn't feel awkward, the embarrassment would be on the others!
"Did we come to the wrong place?"
Noticing the obvious differences in the conference room compared to the outside, the two of them quickly sensed that something was amiss. This place didn't seem like somewhere they should have entered casually.
"No, the meeting is over, and as honored guests, there's nowhere you can't go."
Genji Shina rose to greet them, bowing deeply as a gesture of respect, "I am truly grateful for your assistance. Your presence has greatly reduced our casualties, and as the Family Head, I express my deepest gratitude on behalf of the Serpent Clan. We will forever be your friends."
"I'm not particularly interested in the Serpent Clan, but I do like you as a person."
Caesar felt a slight sense of satisfaction at the reception, although his status as a young master was already quite high. It surprised him that the Family Head, the Emperor, was still so respectful.
He held back his praise, "Aside from your habit of smoking girly cigarettes, you're actually quite manly."
Chu Zihan elbowed the man next to him and translated his words, softening them, "He means that we'd rather befriend you personally than the Serpent Clan."
"It's an honor."
A smile appeared on Genji Shina's face, "I'm delighted to be friends with you, Gatuzo-kun and Chu-kun."
"Just call me Caesar. There are many Gatuzo-kuns, but I'm the only Caesar."
"I feel like the name Caesar is quite common," Chu Zihan commented expressionlessly. "And when you mention Caesar, the first person that comes to mind is still the Roman Caesar."
Before Caesar could glare at the interrupter, an unfamiliar voice sounded.
"I came, I saw, I conquered! Your name represents the family's high hopes for you, Caesar, and it also represents my expectations."
Pompeii Gatuzo, with his kimono half-open, revealing a chest as sculpted as his muscles, walked into the banquet hall with a slight hint of alcohol on his breath.
He had a handsome face, golden hair, sea-blue eyes, a high nose bridge, and a toned waist. There was a mature charm about him that set him apart from the youthful trio of Chu Zihan, Caesar, and Genji Shina.
Pompeii's gaze swept over Old Dad, lingered on him for a moment, briefly glanced at Genji Shina, who was of White King bloodline, and then moved to Chu Zihan, causing his lips to curl slightly. Finally, his gaze settled on Caesar.
"It's been many years since we last met, Caesar."
Chu Zihan felt a subtle pain in the depths of his mind, his heart skipped a few beats, and an indescribable emotion welled up within him. Purple lines appeared in his vision, and he heard an unknown whisper in his ear. He realized that he had fallen into a mild state of spiritual sight.
It was very mild, not enough to cause hallucinations, but it felt like hearing the dragon language again after the 3E test. It was as if something had been activated within him.
He was puzzled by his own state and covered his heart with his right hand.
Caesar's expression had already frozen when Pompeii's voice sounded, and it quickly turned into a wintry chill. If he could, he would have wanted his Dik Push to become Frostmourne and rebel against his magnificent father.
"If I had a choice, I'd rather not see you at all in this lifetime. What brings you to Japan?"
"Of course, it's to see you."
Pompeii's gaze remained fixed on Caesar, examining him closely to ensure he hadn't been injured. Only then did he relax and speak in a gentle tone.
"You are my son, the continuation of my life, and the person I care about most in this world."
"Is that so?"
Caesar crossed his arms and laughed coldly, "From your behavior, shouldn't I have many younger siblings? Did you not get a vasectomy?"
"Your birth was a miracle, Caesar. In thousands of years of human history, there has only been one Caesar, and it is only fitting that there should be one of you in thousands of years."
He spoke calmly, his tone filled with certainty, and was about to continue when a loud noise suddenly came from the door.
The door was kicked open, and Lu Ke, with Hanae in his arms, strode into the conference room, followed by an elderly man with a dark complexion.
"Hey, everyone's here!"
