Chapter 315: The Battle
Chapter 315: The Battle
At first, the Qi King thought Su Su was just spectating the commotion.
But upon listening intently, he paused. Something wasn't right!
A young man tied up and left under a carriage? What kind of situation was that? It didn't sound normal at all.
Unconsciously, he lifted the curtain and glanced out. The carriage next to theirs was slowly moving forward.
From the speed of the carriage, it didn't seem like the type Qi King had imagined to be used for kidnapping. However, Su Su's talent, or perhaps one could say her heavenly blessing, was apparent.
So, Su Su's words were likely true.
But how could he verify this?
He couldn't exactly start rummaging through other people's carriages.
Qi King's expression turned solemn, and the Qi Queen also looked distressed. She, too, had suspected that the neighboring carriage might be up to no good, and now, hearing about a child being tied up...
It was heart-wrenching.
The two exchanged a glance, and as the Queen was about to say something, she saw Qi King raise his hand and give an order. "Send someone to the city gate to inform the guards. Ask them to find an excuse to come over and inspect that carriage. We're close to the gate, so it should be easy to check. That carriage doesn't have any distinctive markings, so they're probably commoners. If they truly can't find anything, they won't dare say anything either. It's better to be safe than sorry."
If it had been someone else who brought up this concern, Qi King might not have taken it seriously.
But because it was his precious Su Su who said it, it was definitely not something to be taken lightly.
Especially when he noticed Su Su looking at him with expectant eyes, Qi King thought that for his dear Su Su, he must play the role of a heroic protector!
Hearing that Qi King had made arrangements, the Queen breathed a sigh of relief and unconsciously tightened her hold on Su Su, hugging her a little closer.
Su Su, sensing her mother's tense and anxious emotions, allowed herself to be comforted in her mother's embrace.
It was a little tight, but not uncomfortable.
Moreover, her mother's embrace was warm and reassuring, something Su Su cherished.
She loved the feeling of having a mother.
Soon, the guard Qi King had dispatched returned with two robust young men from the city guards.
By this time, the suspicious carriage had already moved a fair distance away.
However, the city guards were swift, and it didn't take long for them to catch up.
As the city guards approached, they drew the attention of passersby and other carriages, all curious about the unfolding scene.
The city guards explained their presence, stating that there were reports of unusual activity in the carriage, and thus, they needed to conduct an inspection.
The carriage driver seemed to be arguing with them, but the distance was too far to hear clearly, and only a few indistinct words reached their ears on the wind.
Qi King strained his ears but couldn't make out much.
However, from the driver's demeanor, it seemed he didn't want the guards to inspect the carriage.
The city guards knew who Qi King's guard was, and with his orders, they couldn't simply let the matter go.
Moreover, the royal carriage was not far away!
Thus, regardless of the driver's protests, they had to proceed with the inspection.
Worst-case scenario, they'd endure some verbal abuse.
This sort of situation was familiar to them, especially during times of heightened security, when they often received scoldings.
So, it was no big deal; they could endure a few harsh words.
However, as they were negotiating, the driver suddenly raised his whip and urged the horses forward, attempting to trample over the two city guards and make a swift escape.
Seeing this, the city guards immediately suspected that Qi King's guard's suspicions were correct.
This carriage was indeed suspicious!
Their previous nonchalant attitude had likely been an act to avoid drawing attention.
The two city guards nimbly dodged to the side, and one of them quickly kicked a stone, aiming squarely at the horse's leg.
The horse stumbled and fell, taking the carriage down with it.
As the carriage toppled, the bound young master, tied underneath, was exposed.
At this sight, there was no longer any doubt in the minds of the onlookers.
The City Guards had their suspicions, and now they were certain this carriage was up to no good!
Onlookers and passersby didn't dare to get too close, but Qi King had already sent Si Sui and Qing Shan over to help.
With the young master now exposed, it was only natural for the noble Qi Wang Manor to step in and lend a hand. After all, they were known for their sense of justice.
There were three carriages in the Qi Wang entourage. One carried the king and queen with Su Su, another held the young masters, and the third had Liu Dafu and the two young girls.
As for Shen Fuzi, he preferred riding horseback, claiming that the rocking of the carriage hurt his legs. But when he saw the unfolding situation, he brandished his ruler and rode forth, ready to spring into action.
Shen Fuzi declared, "Do not underestimate me just because I appear to be a gentle scholar! I, too, have some knowledge of martial arts. Taste my blade, scoundrels!"
Unbeknownst to the culprits, Shen Fuzi's ruler was not an ordinary one. It had a hidden extension mechanism that could be activated with the press of a button, transforming it from a mere half-arm's length to a full arm's length, making it as effective as a sword!
Fengh Xuanrui and the others, upon hearing the commotion, poked their heads out of the carriage window and witnessed the agile figure of their teacher and his transformed ruler.
Xuanrui exclaimed in pain at the sight, "Oh heavens, have they tired of living? They've angered Teacher, and now they'll feel the wrath of his extended ruler! That thing stings like crazy when it hits your palm!"
During their lessons, when Shen Fuzi lightly tapped their palms with the ruler as punishment, the stinging sensation would linger, causing Xuanrui to shed tears long into the night.
So, why provoke the teacher now? These scoundrels had it coming!
There were four culprits, two sturdy men, a robust woman, and a nimble-looking coachman. Seeing the situation turn against them, they feigned a few moves and attempted to flee.
But it was too late. Shen Fuzi's ruthless ruler came swinging down.
Liu Dafu, hearing the scuffle, poked his head out to assess the situation. He wanted to join in, but hesitated, knowing that with the children in the carriage, someone needed to stay behind to protect them.
Liu Dafu's hesitation didn't mean he couldn't contribute to the fight. He quickly gathered the arrow-shooting tools the young masters used for practice and began providing long-range support.
Liu Dafu was a seasoned veteran, having accompanied King Qing on military campaigns and served as an army physician. He knew a thing or two about self-defense, and his skills were essential for his survival on the battlefield.
So, archery was second nature to him.
He nocked an arrow, took aim, and released. The scoundrels had nowhere to hide from his precision. "Taste my arrows, you miscreants!"
Swish! Swish!
Liu Dafu's impressive skill with a bow and arrow, the ability to shoot two arrows in different directions with a single draw, earned him a round of applause from Qi King, who exclaimed, "Well done, Liu Dafu!"
Fengh Xuanrui and the others watched in awe, realizing the potential of their archery tools. "Why didn't we think of that?" they exclaimed.
And so, they joined in, nocking arrows and taking aim to assist.
The four scoundrels, realizing the tide had turned against them, attempted to flee. But it was futile.
One of them was knocked unconscious by Shen Fuzi's ruler, another was struck in the leg by Liu Dafu's arrows and now knelt helplessly.
The third scoundrel was first kicked by one of the city guards, then peppered with arrows shot by Fengh Xuanrui and his companions, which not only struck his legs but also pinned his clothes to the ground, leaving him unable to move.
The onlookers, witnessing the scoundrels' pathetic state, couldn't help but cheer. "Well done!" they shouted.
Seeing the young master bound and unconscious under the carriage, the crowd couldn't help but feel a sense of indignation. Who wouldn't be moved by such a sight? Everyone had children in their lives, and this scenario tugged at their heartstrings.
The commoners, however, dared not intervene, but now that someone had taken a stand, they applauded the heroes who had come to the young master's rescue.
