Chapter 315: Stirring Desires
Chapter 315: Stirring Desires
The heavy rain had been pouring for an entire day and night, showing no signs of letting up.
In the vicinity of Lindsey's house, the waters of the Commerce River rushed turbulently, and the usually bustling merchant ships seemed to have suddenly vanished.
But if one stayed here...
They would see unmanned boats being swept away by the rushing currents.
It wasn't until the evening of the next day.
Lindsey was cleaning the shop's interior.
The sound of rain outside was intermittent, sometimes heavy, sometimes light, but it couldn't deter those with determination.
Over the past two days, there had been occasional customers visiting the shop.
As a result, the floor was often wet, and Lindsey's figure, holding a mop, frequently appeared by the glass showcase.
"It's the same wet floor, but when different people come, my mood is completely different."
As he cleaned, Lindsey began to mutter to himself:
"Is this kind of discriminatory thinking considered double standards?"
Clatter-clatter—
The sound of a horse-drawn carriage came from outside.
Lindsey looked up and glanced out the window. Sure enough, a carriage was slowly passing by on the street, sheltered by a waterproof canopy.
After Mullenahue's call.
Many people were able to respond and return to their normal lives, but there were always those who would take risks.
After all, this was a call from a powerful Seventh Stage individual.
Even without any linguistic manipulation, as long as one could satisfy their desires, ordinary people or Awakened individuals might still gain unimaginable benefits or even a chance to rise to prominence.
Creak—
Suddenly, the shop's front door was pushed open from the outside.
A man with a wooden-handled umbrella walked in. Lindsey smiled politely at him, then closed the umbrella and leaned it against the door:
"Hello, I heard that you sell some affordable plants here?"
—Another customer had arrived.
"That's right!"
Lindsey mimicked Elaine's polite smile.
At the same time, he discreetly glanced at the map and saw that the visitor wasn't approaching with hostility:
"I sell some plants and flowers here. Is there anything you need?"
The man politely asked:
"You must be aware of Mayor Mullen's call to the entire city, right?"
Lindsey chuckled softly:
"I've also heard that the business district over there has been bustling with business these past few days."
Hearing Lindsey's response, the man's expression turned a bit embarrassed.
He quickly explained:
"You're absolutely right! Thanks to the mayor's call, business has been booming in that area these days. But it's also because of this situation that I couldn't find what I wanted, so I had no choice but to turn to you, an independent merchant."
Lindsey shrugged and leaned the mop against the wall:
"What kind of plants do you need?"
The man skillfully replied:
"Plants that repel mosquitoes. Additionally, if there are any plants that can be useful in the forest, I'd like to purchase some of those as well."
"Plants that repel mosquitoes..."
Lindsey turned and walked over to the plant shelf.
He opened the cabinet beneath the shelf and took out a handful of lush green leaves.
"How about some mint?"
"This plant is inexpensive, comes in large quantities, and can be used medicinally to induce sweating and reduce fever. Even if you get bitten by mosquitoes, applying it externally can alleviate itching. If you have some left over, brewing it into a tea is also a good option."
The customer picked up the mint and sniffed it, quite satisfied with its fragrance:
"Great, I'll take this!"
"How much for all of these?"
Lindsey spoke up:
"Let me remind you—mint can only effectively repel ordinary mosquitoes. If you encounter magical beasts or the like, it might not work. Its medicinal properties are also not very pronounced, so don't rely on it as a primary treatment."
After hearing Lindsey's clear explanation of mint's effects.
The man didn't mind at all:
"I understand. How much does it cost?"
Only then did Lindsey quote the price:
"It's not expensive. Just a small amount is fine."
"As he spoke, Lindsey withdrew a sheet of bamboo paper and wrapped the mint, securing it with a fiber rope. He then handed it over to the man in front of him, who paid with not three silver coins but a single gold coin.
"Wait, let me get you your change," Lindsey said, preparing to give the man seventeen silver coins. However, the man stopped him:
"Sir, this gold coin is all yours."
"I'd like you to provide me with some... unique plants, preferably ones that can help me deal with enemies, in addition to the mint," the man requested.
Lindsey paused, his polite demeanor fading as he asked, "You mean poisonous plants?"
The customer smiled broadly, indicating without words that Lindsey had guessed correctly.
Lindsey refused sternly, "I'm sorry, I only deal in legitimate business. I don't sell dangerous things!"
In reality, he had a garden of all sorts of plants in his backyard, some of which were indeed dangerous.
Lindsey had no intention of causing trouble, so he naturally wouldn't engage in such risky transactions.
The man before him, however, was persistent. He took out two more gold coins and placed them in front of Lindsey with a grand gesture:
"If you think it's not enough, I can give you more."
"If you give me what I want, they're all yours!"
Lindsey promptly counted out seventeen silver coins as change, leaving the two extra gold coins untouched:
"Sir, our transaction is concluded."
"If you don't want to, you can return the mint to me, and I'll refund your money."
The man frowned:
"Three gold coins aren't enough? That's being too greedy!"
Lindsey merely returned the money and shook his head without saying a word.
"..."
"Hmph! You're missing out on business!"
The man's expression turned sour. In the end, he took the coins and mint leaves and hurried out into the rain.
The rain lashed against his face.
He suddenly remembered that he had left his umbrella leaning against the wall by the door.
Embarrassed, he grabbed the wooden-handled umbrella and quickly disappeared into the rainy streets.
"They say it's hard to buy plants in the business district," Lindsey muttered as he saw the customer off. He began to meticulously wipe the floor, as if trying to erase something.
"He was clearly trying to buy poison discreetly."
"The rain hasn't stopped, and the expedition team is still preparing to leave the city. Why the rush to prepare these things now?"
Lindsey shook his head in disdain:
"If I had such agility, who knows how many dragon beasts I would have slain!"
As he grumbled, Lindsey checked his attribute panel.
【Shop: Lindsey's Magical Plants】
【Level: 2 (11/100)】
【...】
Although the customer wasn't ideal, the transaction was genuine.
As Lindsey cleaned, the sky gradually darkened.
There were still residents on the street preparing for expeditions, but Lindsey's shop wasn't likely to have any customers.
He locked the door and turned back to the backyard kitchen, pondering an age-old dilemma:
"Now, what to eat for dinner?"
Lindsey examined his inventory.
As he scanned, his gaze fell on his fishing rod, and a bold idea emerged:
"In different environments, fishing yields different catches."
"So, in this special weather of heavy rain and flooding, might I catch something else?"
