Chapter 315: Search for Me
Chapter 315: Search for Me
Even before the second day had arrived, Shen Yi found himself facing a few unexpected companions.
He looked on helplessly at the group before him. If he recalled correctly, the plan was to let the young ones venture out and explore.
Aside from the familiar aunt and nephew duo, the other two companions hardly qualified as "young."
Xu Hongde stepped forward and introduced, "This is the Sixth Patriarch of the Xu family."
The Sixth Patriarch of the Xu family nodded politely, though he maintained the air of an elder, his eyes sparkled with anticipation.
This opportunity was one he had wrested from the old woman with great difficulty. With the clan leader away, she had to stay and preside over the overall situation.
These old folks had experienced the outside world's splendor in their youth but had always been constrained by the bigger picture, forced to remain here and unable to move as they pleased. Now that they finally had a legitimate reason, they were naturally unwilling to give it up.
Among the three, Xu Wanyun was included because the Fifth Patriarch still hadn't given up on her idea, secretly instructing her to try even harder.
As for Aqing, it was purely because with Xu Hongde absent, no one could keep her in check.
When it came to array formations, who could outdo this young lady?
Rather than waiting for her to run away secretly, it was better to just bring her along.
"Are we going to the Great Qian Empire?" Aqing asked excitedly. To all cultivators, the tripartite alliance was something that existed only in legends.
Although the Xu family had once been quite intimate with them, after many years, they could only catch a glimpse of their splendor through books and records.
"Are you really a temple keeper?" Seeing Shen Yi nod, Xu Wanyun finally dared to ask the question that had been on her mind. She had suspected that Shen Yi was deceiving them up until their departure.
"Let's go," Shen Yi said, taking a step forward and reappearing outside. However, the lush forest that had been there before was now gone, the surrounding mountains had collapsed, and there was no sign of life, as if this place had been ravaged by a cataclysmic disaster.
He waited for a while to ensure there were no abnormalities before signaling Aqing with the pebbles.
The group boarded the flying boat and disappeared from the spot.
Shen Yi did not return to the Great Qian Empire directly. Instead, he made a detour to the Eight Directions Restaurant, which was closer.
Seeing the crimson tower still standing tall in the valley and the bustling crowd of diverse individuals, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
It seemed that the cultivators from Wutong Mountain had been working diligently. At least, up to this point, the Thousand Demon Cave had not found the opportunity to take revenge.
It was uncertain how long this situation could be maintained, though.
"Are we going down for a meal?" Aqing asked, perched on the edge of the flying boat, licking her lips. She couldn't forget the delicious meat dumplings she had tasted before.
Xu Wanyun glanced at her brother, who stood with his hands behind his back, looking calm and composed, and then at the Sixth Patriarch, who had his head held high and didn't even spare a glance at the restaurant.
Surprisingly, neither of them spoke to stop Aqing.
"Next time," Shen Yi said, gazing into the distance. The safety of the Eight Directions Restaurant did not guarantee that the Great Qian Empire was also secure. After all, the lands of the Nine Provinces were vast.
Just then, several auspicious clouds soared from within the restaurant.
"Let's go, let's go! There's something exciting happening!" Aqing exclaimed, noticing that the direction the people were heading seemed to coincide with their route. She turned to Shen Yi and called out to the others, "Seniors, wait! Can you tell us what the excitement is about?"
"You don't know even after almost half a month?" The cultivators exchanged glances and didn't bother to lower their voices. "We just heard about it too. It seems the tripartite alliance is about to change hands. If you want to see, go to Lizhou!"
Upon hearing this, the expressions of those on the flying boat changed simultaneously. They turned to look at Shen Yi.
"Fellow Daoist, can you elaborate?" Shen Yi asked, standing with his hands clasped behind his back, his gaze fixed in the direction of the restaurant.
Seeing his extraordinary demeanor, the cultivators continued, "We also just heard about it. It seems the foxes from Qingqiu suddenly went to the Great Qian Empire, and there was some sort of dispute. They want to replace the Great Qian Empire, and even Wutong Mountain has been stirred. Of course... these are just rumors, and not all of it may be true, but that's the gist of it."
Xu Hongde and the Sixth Patriarch exchanged a glance, a hint of confusion in their eyes.
Something seemed amiss, and they hadn't even reached the Great Qian Empire yet.
Was this what Shen Yi had meant when he said that the Xu family would know who he was once they left?
"Brother Shen, Lizhou isn't in this direction," Aqing said cautiously, noticing the tense atmosphere.
Even she knew the way, so how could Brother Shen get it wrong? Could he truly be that distracted?
"We're not going to Lizhou first," Shen Yi said, standing at the front of the flying boat, his hands hidden within his sleeves, slowly clenching into fists.
Within his dark eyes, a red mist began to rise.
Those foxes had boldly entered the Great Qian Empire, and the Martial Temple would surely send people to deal with them.
But there was one place that would be overlooked.
...
Great Qian Empire, Qingzhou City.
The vast city appeared no different from usual, bustling with activity in its streets and alleys.
However, within the newly repaired Demon Suppression Office.
Ten figures clad in somber black armor were making their way towards a quiet courtyard.
"Has the message been delivered to the Jinghuang City?" The Yang'an County General asked, his face grave.
Chen Qinkuan took a deep breath. "Commander You didn't mention it. The situation probably isn't good."
"It's only been peaceful for so long..." The Yang'an County General sighed. Just when he thought Qingzhou had finally stabilized.
But now, one of them had gone to Lizhou and disappeared without a trace, and the other had been promoted and could no longer spare attention for this place.
If those two were here, that fox would have to be more cautious.
As if reading his thoughts, Chen Qinkuan said quietly, "When we go in later, don't mention them."
After all, the old man might be old, but he knew that there were differences in strength even among Hybrid Realm masters.
As the group entered the Commander's mansion, the guards outside heaved a sigh of relief.
Once upon a time, that black armor with red trim seemed to possess a calming presence, able to stabilize any situation no matter how dire.
But now, these commanders seemed no different from ordinary soldiers.
"Don't look inside, or you might bring trouble upon yourself," an older guard reminded his younger colleague.
"I just want to know who they're looking for," the young guard said with a smile.
"You haven't even reached the Initial Stage yet, and you don't have a single cloud pattern on your body. If it weren't for the peaceful times, who would be able to wear this uniform? And who they're looking for has nothing to do with you... they're probably looking for that person again." The older guard shook his head.
Hearing this, Chen Ji tightened his grip on the dagger at his waist and wiped the smile off his face.
At that moment, in the courtyard.
An old man with a circle of white fur draped over his shoulders sat in a reclining chair, holding a teacup.
In front of him stood You Longtao, his hands clasped behind his back.
A group of commanders held scrolls and reported one by one, "We haven't found any trace of the thief in Linjiang County, nor have we seen any fox cultivators from Qingqiu."
A fury, Aqing clenched her teeth and turned her head to the side.
Behind her, Lin Baiwei stepped forward and reported, "The demon catcher has searched outside of Qingzhou, but there's no sign of the thief."
Almost everyone knew who the thief was.
Including the fox demon in front of them.
But no one had dared to mention that name.
"Tsk, tsk. You can't find him?"
The white-furred elder slammed his teacup onto the stone table. "Then search again until you do!"
